NWA:TNA
[/u]November 22nd, 2006[/center]
A recap video aired from last week, highlighting mainly the AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Jacobs, Kurt Angle vs. Monty Brown and Lance Storm vs. Jeff Jarrett matches
The new NWA:TNA opening video played at the conclusion of the recap. Afterward, pyrotechnics blasted off a slightly remodeled stage as cameras panned the arena, and Paul Heyman and Dean Malenko welcomed everyone to the show
NWA World's Champion Lance Storm came to the ring to kick off the show. He talked about the situation last week involving he, Kurt Angle, and Jeff Jarrett. He explained that he had nothing to do with it, but he was quickly interrupted by Justin Credible making his way to the ring, wearing a kilt. Storm questioned Justin as to what he was doing, and more importantly, what he was wearing. Credible stretched his arms out, making a cross, and then Raven jumped the champion from behind! Raven beat down Storm and then instructed Credible to hit him with a Tombstone piledriver. Raven then grabs a microphone. He asks if Storm thought it was a coincidence that he went after the World Champion's former tag team partner. He says he, too, wants a shot at the championship and tonight, he will be teaming with Jeff Jarrett in the main event.
THE MAVERICKS (MATT BENTLEY & KAZARIAN) VS. CHRIS SABIN & SONJAY DUTT (TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL)
The opening match in the Tag Team title tournament saw a great mix of the high-flying and technical styles that make up TNA's X-Division. The two teams seemed very equally matched, as the action went back and forth throughout basically the entire match. Eventually, the tables turned to the Mavericks when Chris Sabin attempted a dive over the top rope onto Matt Bentley and got his leg stuck in the top rope. Matt slid into the ring and hit Sonjay Dutt with a superkick, knocking him out. Kazarian dropped down and pinned Dutt, allowing the Mavericks to advance in the tournament. Before they left, Matt Bentley "helped" Sabin out of the ropes with a stiff kick to the back. Chris Sabin slowly pulled himself to his feet on the outside, shaking off the cobwebs of hanging upside down. He gets in the ring and helps Sonjay up. He then lifts him up on his shoulders and plants him to the mat with the Cradle Shock! Sabin stands up and stairs down at Sonjay. He shakes his head and walks out of the ring, shaking his head.
Alex Shelley presents the debut of his Paparazzi Productions videos. In this edition, Shelley is looking to find the identity of Sabu's attacker the past few weeks. He first finds out that the "ROH" on his shirt stands for Ring of Honor, a wrestling company based out of New England. Shelley travels to New England and finds a Ring of Honor show, where he also finds out that NWA:TNA workers Austin Starr, Roderick Strong, Jimmy Jacobs, and Homicide are also working there. Eventually, he learns that the man's name is Necro Butcher. He concludes the video with watching Necro Butcher land a vicious spike piledriver on "some poor sap" that just happens to be Jimmy Jacobs.
RODERICK STRONG & CHRISTOPHER DANIELS VS. ELIX SKIPPER & AUSTIN STARR (TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL)
Much like last week's encounter between these two teams, the rematch was a action-filled encounter displaying the styles of the X-Division. This time around, though, Skipper and Starr knew Strong and Daniels's gameplan, so they made sure they were the ones getting hot tags often, keeping the match relatively even. In fact, this one was even down until the very end - literally. All four men were in the ring at once, and Roderick Strong hit Elix Skipper with a huge backbreaker at the very moment that Austin Starr was rolling up Christopher Daniels! The referee dropped down and counted the fall. After a few moments of confusion due to Starr and Strong both thinking they won, the referee lifted Roderick Strong's hand in the air. Austin Starr started to argue with the referee, but Strong and Daniels quickly left to the back.
Backstage, Beth Givens interviews B.G. James. James says that his leg has healed up nicely, but he still doesn't feel 100% physically or mentally. He says he is taking a break from the wrestling world. He needs to refocus and get back to being his old self. He doesn't know how soon or if he will return, but if he does, expect a revolution!
HOMICIDE VS. RON KILLINGS
"The Notorious 187" continued to impress in NWA:TNA again this week, having a very competitive match-up against the former NWA World's Heavyweight Champion, the "Truth." Both men were able to show off their signature moves, although the match itself wasn't very long. Homicide closed the match out by hitting Killings with the Cop Killa! After the match, he helped Killings up and they shook hands. As Homicide was leaving up the ramp, LAX - Konnan and Hernandez - came out on the stage and stared him down. Konnan took the microphone and said there was a spot in LAX waiting for Homicide if he wanted it. He said that all Homicide would have to do is help them in their match tonight and they could take his career places he never even imagined. That, or he could continue to be held back by the powers that be.
Backstage, Christopher Daniels wass bragging to Roderick Strong that they will have no problem winning the Tag Team Title tournament next week, and he will soon be a double champion. Just then, NWA CC member Ted Dibiase showed up in the locker room. He sid he is glad that Daniels feels that way, because next week, not only will he be competing in the Tag Team Title tournament, but he will also be defending the X-Division championship in a triple threat match against Elix Skipper and Austin Starr: the two men who hold figurative pinfall victories over him.
Jimmy Jacobs stormed to the ring at this time, and demanded that he have a match against Alex Shelle after Shelley embarassed him at the end of that video earlier. NWA Championship Committee member Paul Heyman, being on commentary, stood up and agreed that it would be a good idea for not only Jacobs, but the fans as well! Shelley reluctantly made his way to the ring and the match was underway.
JIMMY JACOBS VS. ALEX SHELLEY
Ever since he arrived in NWA:TNA, Jimmy Jacobs has fought with a chip on his shoulder, and this match was no exception. Jacobs controlled this match in the early going, and it took a thumb to the eye turned into a clothesline for Shelley to finally get a chance to breathe. Jacobs came right back at Shelley though, but this time he was ready, and was able to go move-for-move with him. Both men battled it out in a very equally matched, fast-paced match-up. In the end, Shelley appeared to have the advantage in the match-up, as he was about to set up Jacobs for his own finishing move, the Contra Code, when Sabu came running to the ring and tossed a chair at Shelley! Sabu was now in the ring, and it appeared Alex Shelley had won this one by DQ. Sabu and Jacobs double-teamed Shelley in the corner, until the Necro Butcher appeared again and attacked Sabu from behind! It broke out into a four-man brawl, with Shelley ending up fighting Sabu and Butcher against Jacobs. Necro Butcher started to pull a table out from under the ring, but Jimmy Jaocbs was up on his feet inside the ring and he hit Butcher with a somersault plancha, knocking him through the partially set-up table. At the same time, Sabu hit Shelley with an Arabian facebuster from the steel ring steps to the floor. Security came to the ring to break up the brawl, pushing Sabu and Jimmy Jacobs to the back while EMTs checked on Shelley and Butcher.
Keiji Sakoda's weekly vingette aired. He debuts in two weeks, right here on NWA:TNA live on PPV! Paul and Dean recap a video of NWA:TNA superstar Rhino in Japan, in which he took on Keiji Sakoda in a match. Amazingly, Sakoda is seemingly dominant throughout the match and ends up getting the win with a roaring elbow.
AMERICA'S MOST WANTED (JAMES STORM & CHRIS HARRIS) VS. SHARK BOY & ABYSS (TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL)
Despite having a few miscommunications throughout the match, Abyss and Shark Boy surprised everyone by working together quite well. They were able to go toe-to-toe with the experienced team of Storm and Harirs throughout most of the match-up, mostly due to their varying styles. The power of Abyss mixed with the speed of Shark Boy made quite a combination, but in the end it wasn't enough to defeat America's Most Wanted. AMW had thrown Abyss out of the ring, and he was stuck on the outside while they set up Shark Boy up for the Death Sentence. Abyss started climbing into the ring as they planted Shark Boy to the mat with the top rope leg drop. Harris ran across the ring and hit Abyss with a spear, holding him back enough for Storm to get the pinfall and the win, advancing them to the next round of this tournament. After the match, AMW was celebrating and Abyss slowly got to his feet. He grabbed Harris and hit him with a Black Hole Slam. Storm tried to stick up for his partner, but he was left with the Shock Treatment for his troubles. Abyss then picked up Shark Boy and carried him to the back.
Lance Storm and Kurt Angle are interviewed backstage. Storm said that earlier in his career, he would have loved to team with Kurt Angle, but due to the circumstances, he doesn't too much care for it anymore. He would, however, be giving it his all in their match because that is what a champion does. Angle told him not to screw everything up and walked away. Storm glared at him and shook his head as we faded back to the arena.
L.A.X. (KONNAN & HERNANDEZ) VS. PETEY WILLIAMS & CHRISTIAN CAGE (TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL)
The "Latin American Xchange" entered the arena through a side door alongside the stage near the production equipment, further alienating themselves from the rest of the wrestlers. Despite both teams teaming for the first time here in NWA:TNA, they both seemed to worked well as cohesive units. Williams and Cage stuck to the basics of tag team wrestling, while LAX used some dirty tactics. After a lot of back-and-forth action and a couple of hot tags, all four men burst into the ring. With Konnan down after suffering the Unprettier, Petey Williams jumped (upside down) onto Hernandez's back. He wasn't able to pull him down, so Christian bounced off the ropes and clotheslined him. This allowed Petey the momentum to pull Hernandez to the mat and hit him with a modified Canadian Destroyer! Christian then counted along with the referee as Williams covered him for the three count and the win! Round 1 of the Tag Team Title tournament was now complete, and it was definitely a thriller. The Canadians left to the back, while Konnan slowly grabbed a microphone. He warned Homicide that by not helping them out, he had made a mistake - and an enemy in the form of LAX.
NWA CC member "Rowdy" Roddy Piper made his way out on the stage at this time to run down the card for next week's show. The semifinals of the Tag Team title tournament would see the Mavericks facing off against Strong and Daniels, as well as America's Most Wanted taking on Petey Williams & Christian Cage. Also, as if it hasn't been documented enough the past few weeks, Keiji Sakoda will be making his NWA:TNA debut! In light of events earlier tonight, Alex Shelley will be teaming with the Necro Butcher to take on Jimmy Jacobs and Sabu! In addition to the huge X-Division championship match announced earlier, the number one contendership for the NWA World Championship will be on the line in a triple threat match between Jeff Jarrett, Raven, and Kurt Angle. And last but not least, the Championship itself will be on the line when Lance Storm takes on his former tag team partner, Justin Credible!
JEFF JARRETT & RAVEN w/JUSTIN CREDIBLE VS. NWA WORLD'S HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION LANCE STORM & KURT ANGLE
This match was doomed to be an all out brawl from the start. There was never any solid tagging back-and-forth, mainly because the teams didn't get along. The referee eventually gave up on forcing them to their corners and allowed it to be played out unofficially like a tornado tag match. The teams fought it out for quite a few minutes with no team ever having too much of the upper hand. Eventually, Jeff Jarrett and Raven started to argue with each other because Justin Credible was interfering and Jarrett didn't want to be disqualified. Raven then planted Jarrett to the mat with the Evenflow DDT. Shortly after that, Lance Storm took down Raven and locked him in the Canadian Maple Leaf! Kurt Angle ran across the ring and pinned Jarrett before Raven tapped out, so that Angle would be credited with the pinfall victory. Storm let go of Raven, who was now gripping his leg in pain. Storm and Angle stared each other down as Storm grabbed his belt out of Angle's hand. Justin Credible grabbed Jarrett's guitar and was about to hit Storm with it, but he saw it on the screen on the stage, so he moved and Credible nailed Angle. Storm then planted Credible to the mat with the title belt. Storm quickly left the ring and walked up the ramp, turning around at the top and pointing at the ring. He then lifted up the NWA World's title belt as the cameras faded out.
Paul Heyman and Dean Malenko thanked everyone for watching and wished them a very safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday!
