SLAM! Trios Tournament, Night #2
Pioneer Hall -- Duluth, MN
February 11, 2007
Jay Roclass and Jon Coachman stood by at ringside for DVD commentary.
Trios Tournament Round #2 (Loser's Bracket) Match
SD Associates vs. D.I.F.H. & Shannon Moore
This match was incredibly one-sided. Sadly for D.I.F.H. and Moore, they did not match up very well against the larger S.D. Associates. Abyss took Tyler Black, while Muhammad Copani faced Jimmy Jacobs and Sabu took Shannon Moore. After a short battle, Sabu took full advantage of the no disqualification rules of trios tournament matches, setting Shannon Moore on a table. He climbed to the top of the turnbuckles, but Copani flipped Jacobs over the ropes onto the table. Surprisingly, the table did not break as it happened, so Sabu continued to climb to the top rope and then hit both Jacobs and Moore with a flying leg drop through the table. Back in the ring, Abyss was able to hit Tyler Black with the Black Hole Slam. Muhammad Copani then locks Black in the Camel Clutch. It doesn't take long for him to tap out, and D.I.F.H to be eliminated from the tournament.
Winners: SD Associates [9:46]

Trios Tournament Round #2 (Loser's Bracket) Match
The King's Men & Nunzio Maritato vs. Minnesota Wrecking Crew & Matt Sydal
There was some obvious tension between the MWC and Matt Sydal. They apparently blamed him for even being in the loser's bracket in the first place, and their heads were not in the match. The King's Men, being the mat technicians that they are, became aware of the situation and took advantage of it throughout this one. As the match closed out, Nigel McGuiness back body dropped Anderson out of the ring, and then grabbed Matt Sydal and hit him with a backbreaker. He left him lying on his knee, as Nunzio climbed to the top rope and hit him with a leg drop. Shelton came in and broke it all up afterward, preventing a pinfall by tossing Nunzio from the ring. However, Nigel was back to his feet rather quickly. After a kick to the stomach, he lifted Benjamin up on the top rope and hit him with the Tower of London. He then rolled him over and pinned him, eliminating the Minnesota Wrecking Crew from this tournament
Winners: The King's Men & Nunzio Maritato [13:18]
After the match, Ken Anderson and Shelton Benjamin got in the ring with Matt Sydal. Benjamin hit him with a leg sweep and laid as Anderson clotheslined him, dropping him onto Benjamin's waiting knees. They left to the back, decisively ending their partnership with Matt Sydal.
Trios Tournament Round #2 (Winner's Bracket) Match
AJ Styles, Chris Sabin, & Fallen Angel vs. Second City Saints & Davey Richards
This match started out relatively evenly matched, but the TNA stars eventually started to look like human crash test dummys. Chris Sabin was sent over the top rope onto the fan guard rail. AJ Styles was knocked off the top rope after a springboard attempt and landed on the announce table, knocking it over! And neither of those were even the deciding spot in the match. It did nearly take them two out of the match however, which meant that C.M. Punk was able to hit Chris Daniels with the Pepsi Plunge followed by cinching on the Anaconda Vice for the submission victory for the Saints. Sabin, Styles, and Daniels would all be in the Middleweight battle royal later, if they could make it.
Winners: Second City Saints & Davey Richards [11:18]
Trios Tournament Round #2 (Winner's Bracket) Match
Kings of Wrestling vs. Generation Next
Matches like this one are the reason I decided to bring SLAM! Wrestling back. This one could not have gone down any better. It featured everything you would expect - some great technical wrestling, some strong style, some flying, and some straight up brawling. The feel of the match was not so much back-and-forth, but just no one ever had a clear advantage because everyone was getting involved at random times. Somehow, it did not become a cluster-you-know-what. The matched finally concluded as Roderick Strong had Claudio up for Roderick's Edge, but Super Dragon broke it up. He then gave Strong the Curb Stomp. Austin Aries ran in behind Super Dragon and gave him a dropkick out of the ring, but he turned around to be met with the Ricola Bomb from Claudio, who then pinned him for the three count, eliminating Generation Next from the tournament.
Winners: Kings of Wrestling [21:52]
Trios Tournament Round #3 (Loser's Bracket) Match
SD Associates vs. The King's Men & Nunzio Maritato
This was a pretty nice match-up, though not the best. The King's Men were undersized but they were smart enough to not get involved in a brawl. They kept a slow, methodical, technical style and tried to keep Abyss out of the match for as long as possible. They wore down Sabu and Muhammad Copani rather quickly, and eventually, they had to face off against the monster. Nigel and Nunzio took control through a double team against the big man, but Sabu and Muhammad eventually ran in to stop it. The match finally broke down into a brawl, just how the SD Associates wanted it, but somehow, the King's Men pulled it off. With the rest of the men battling on the outside, Regal hit Copani with the Regalplex and then locked him in an STF. Copani tried to struggle to the ropes, but he was forced to tap out just before Sabu leaped off of the top rope and hit Regal with a top rope leg drop. Regal rolled out of the ring, where McGuiness and Maritato helped him to the back.
Winners: The King's Men & Nunzio Maritato [11:36]
Trios Tournament Round #3 (Winner's Bracket) Match
Second City Saints & Davey Richards vs. Kings of Wrestling
This was a quick match - shockingly, with the Kings of Wrestling stealing one early. Neither team ever really got anything going, and it was obvious the Kings did not want to get in a long match against the Saints. The match concluded with Claudio hitting Davey Richards with his metal briefcase and Chris Hero rolling him up with the tights pulled for the three count and the victory. The Kings ran to the back as fast as they could before the Saints could react.
Winners: Kings of Wrestling [4:18]
SLAM! Commissioner Bob Saget came to the ring at this time. He said that the two-night return of SLAM! set a Pioneer Hall attendance record, and that SLAM! planned on returning very soon. In the meantime, we will be traveling to St. Paul for our next show. Bryan Danielson and Delirious have not declared they will be cashing in their trophy title shots, so instead, they will be facing off agianst their respective champions in a tag team match! That's right, Alex Shelley & Rob Conway vs. Delirious & Bryan Danielson! Also, D.I.F.H will be unveiling their new partner in a Trios match against Roderick Strong, Jack Evans, & Matt Sydal. Finally, C.P. Munk has announced that he will be unveiling his new gimmick!
Trios Tournament Semi-Final Match
The King's Men & Nunzio Maritato vs. Second City Saints & Davey Richards
The Saints were back in the ring rather quickly, ready to get another shot at the Kings of Wrestling, who stole one from them earlier. In the early going, they appeared to be looking past the King's Men, because they dominated the offense for the first few minutes. However, the Saints quickly recovered and showed their dominance and will to win the Trios Championship. Eventually, all three of the King's Men felt a finishing move from the Saints. Colt Cabana hit Nigel McGuiness with the Colt .45. William Regal received the DR Driver, and Nunzio was locked in the Anaconda Vice. Nunzio eventually tapped out, giving the victory to the Saints.
Winners: Second City Saints & Davey Richards [10:00]

Chris Sabin by Tyler Black

SLAM! World Trios Championship Match
Kings of Wrestling vs. Second City Saints & Davey Richards
The Saints jumped the Kings of Wrestling on their way to the ring, and the first few minutes of this one didn't even take place inside the squared circle. Once they finally entered the ring, this became one hell of a battle between two teams who have quickly grown to hate each other. They fought through a rather long "feeling out" process between all six men at the beginning, with a lot of quick tags before any serious offense was unleashed. Eventually, it spilled out into another brawling war, which was not essentially ended until C.M. Punk rolled up Claudio, grabbing his tights for the three count and the victory!
