WRESTLE-NET: THE MONDAY NIGHT WARS CONTINUE THIS WEEK!
Sunday 7th February 1999
- WCW Monday Nitro continued to dominate the Monday Night Wars as they raged through the three hours with a 5.11 whereas WWF RAW is WAR was left behind with a 4.95. WCW is still the number one promotion in the wrestling industry, worldwide.
- WCW Thunder this week received a 3.71 Nielson rating from TBS Superstation. This is average for an episode of Thunder.
- WCW Saturday Night did better this week in the mini-Saturday Night Wars as they scored a 3.75 over the duration of the two hours, the highest thus far in the year 1999. Whereas WWF's Shotgun's one-hour program gained 4.73.
- To get the ball rolling for the upcoming Sting/Raven feud, expect Raven to be taunting Sting and referencing him in promos before his confrontation against Hardcore Hak at WCW Superbrawl IX. After Hak's feud with Raven is done, Hak has shown signs of wanting a release to return to Extreme Championship Wrestling. This will probably happen, as WCW have reportedly got nothing planned for him to do.
- The WCW booking squad have hinted that they want to focus the WCW World Television Championship on the lower-midcard position of the roster. Currently, it is almost identical to the WCW US Heavyweight Championship, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Buff Bagwell, all regulars in the division. Expect somebody young to take the title during the month of March very unexpectedly.
- WCW are currently planning on creating another stipulation for its upcoming WCW Uncensored event, titled the 'Three Cages of Hell'. Really, this is a hell in a cell cage, with two more cages on top of it (sort of like a ladder match) looking like a pyramid, with a title belt or something held from a hook, which a superstar must grab. There is suspicion that Kevin Nash and Bret Hart's feud will expand into a four-way feud involving either Scott Hall or somebody else of nWo V2 as well as Diamond Dallas Page or Randy Savage.
- Speaking of Diamond Dallas Page, WCW are anxious to put the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on him. Could March be the month? If it isn't, it'll be in the Spring or early-Summer.
- Jushin Thunder Liger is scheduled to make three appearances within the next month in WCW. Each in which he'll be paid $128,000 overall. Liger will return to Japan for April as New Japan Pro Wrestling's tour will initiate. Maybe a quick run with the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship could classify it as 'World'. And give it more popularity with international publicity.
