Reinvention Part I
The Escape
Everything had transpired so quickly that night, I hardly remember any specifics, nor do the specifics matter all that much. The events that took place then are just a backdrop to the real performance. Let the auditions begin.
==================================
I could feel the air fill my lungs, it was cool, each breathe was a struggle. The building had been easy enough, a little finagling but everything had gone smooth. Well, smooth for me, the others I could not know and nor did I care, they knew the risks. I scurried into the woods that lie nearby hoping that they would lose interest before pursuing that far in, it would be an hour or so before they knew who all had gotten out. This was plenty of time, so I didn’t rush myself. The moon was out and the sky was clear; quiet. I paused for a moment and took in the surroundings before moving on. The highway was not far from there, I knew that much. I could hear the cars day in and day out running up and down it, you truly begin to appreciate such things when you are without them.
Many of things ran through my mind that night but none of them compare to that which happened when I reached the highway. I pulled back the last piece of brush and looked out upon the most beautiful of sites. Cars sped back and forth; I could feel each one of them as they did and loved it. I began to laugh hysterically and tears welled up in my eyes before springing forth into the air. “Thank you, Thank you God!” I’m not a man of religion but the moment was a special occasion and the words were merely just the first ones that came to mind.
After many minutes of childlike sobbing, I finally pulled myself up and back together. I had planned nothing after this point figuring that I would have been caught by now or the answer would come to me. After a very brief moment, I gave into the standard use of the thumb in these situations but knew it would get me nowhere fast. I looked down at the clothes, “Damn it,” what I was wearing would surely ward off any chance of me getting a ride. Impulse took over and what happened next I would rather not tell you right now, maybe another time.
==================================
Days melted into weeks and weeks began as months and so on and so forth. Where I was squatting was less then livable and was wearing thin. I had thought of many things I could do but nothing was quick enough, no I needed a quick fix. I moved about for awhile, hoping for find something to turn everything around. Finally something came my way in the form of an old friend who had made it out as well. It had been a letter, how it had got to me I am still not sure, it seemed years since everything had happened but it didn’t matter anymore, no things would change soon.

Dear, Trist
It seems as if you are down on your luck as of late, no matter. I remembered what you had done for me and once I found out what had happened to you I decided it was time to return the favor. In this is a name and a place and soon you will be on your way to getting back on your feet. Don’t mess this up.
Your Friend,
