Title: Earthworm Jim
System: Super Nes, Genesis, PC and Sega CD
Released: 1994
Earthworm Jim is my favorite video game of all time. That's saying a lot considering there are literally tens of thousands of games in existence and many classic among those. But Earthworm Jim deserves every bit of praise I give it. The best thing about this title is a bunch of things strike you equally; the story, characters, graphics, gameplay and sound. This game is the complete package and what all games should be like. Earthworm Jim, once an everyday Earthworm, until a high-tech cybernetic super suit dropped out of the sky and onto our hero, creating one of the biggest oddball superheroes to ever be! Equipped with his plasma blaster weapon and some new found skills, he must save Princess What's Her Name? from Queen Slug for a Butt and stop Psycrow from taking his powerful suit back. Jim must travel to such planets as Heck, New Junk City and even a world made up of intestines, before arriving at his final destination, Buttville! Through all this, the game presents great bright and colorful graphics, which had never been seen up to that time. It just may be the best-looking 16-bit title ever. The gameplay is outstandingly flawless. Jim has a wide variety of maneuvers, which are all extremely easy to control. The music is a work of genius. Composed by video game music wizard hall of famer Tommy Tallarico, these catchy tunes added a undeniable mood to the levels they accompanied. Earthworm Jim also offered up something that many games just don't have: comedy. This game was funny beyond belief. Whether you were launching a cow with a refrigerator or bungee jumping on a cord made up of snot, this game delivered a number of side-splitting moments that will forever be remembered. When it comes to creativity and just about everything else, Earthworm Jim walks away with first prize. This title is a true classic and the character of Earthworm Jim will never be matched.
