(The Poll above is for the first race only, in Austrailia .)
It's Back!!!!....................Well in five days anyway.
Formula One is back and after the drama and excitement of last year how can the most expensive travelling circus top the amazing 2007 season it put on show for all.
In truth it will be difficult to see F1 being as dramatic as last season but the excitement is always there and with the season not even under way yet, it would be foolish to suggest that the Prancing Horse will ride off with both Constructors & Drivers Championships again.
Here is a run-down on all the teams and drivers, and where Vettel360 sees their respective seasons going:
[glow=red,2,300]Ferrari[/glow]
Could be a year of dominance for the boys in red, and it should be given the problems their opponents must overcome to compete with the might of Ferrari who look a good bet to win most if not all races this season.
V360 Prediction for Ferrari: 1st.
They look like the most likely Champions, after the spy-scandal last season Ferrari seemed to be on a mission and they were succesfull in their mission, winning the Drivers Championship for their top man. Kimi Raikonnen.
The Ice Man commeth, he is finally a world champion, can he win it for a second season in a row? Yes he can.
And he will if he keeps on the straight and narrow, the cool Finn is calm cool and collected on the grid but once away from the hectic life as a F1 driver he becomes a totally different character and it will be down to whether his concentration and heart all comes together to lift the World crown again, if he doesn't keep his mind on the racing calendar, his team mate may just sneak in and take the glory for himself.
V360 Prediction for Kimi: 1st.
Felipe Massa, he is a superb driver and he could very well be the man to beat this year. Understudy to Michael Schumacher in his first Ferrari Season, the little Brazilian came on strong in 2006 and won his first two races at Turkey & his home-country of Brazil. In 2007 he finished behind the Mclaren boys and his team-mate in race-wins but showed a much improved style of driving and he could be unstoppable given the nod ahead of Kimi. He is a match for anybody on any given day and if given the full support of his team he can be a World Champ, sooner than you would think.
V360 Prediction for Felipe: 2nd.
[glow=blue,2,300]BMW SAUBER[/glow]
This is the team to watch, Will they fall back into the midtable mediocrity? Will they be challenging to win races on a regular basis? Will they be a shout for the Championships?
The only answer i have for these questions is, possibly, anything is possible for a team which were 3rd best last season, they should be able to build and build on the momentum of last season and start winning races, whether they are ready to win titles, it is unlikely but still possible, if Mclaren can't operate from the back on the garage, if the whole Ferrari team go on that Week-long bender Kimi has planned after every race then it is very possible.
V360 Prediction for BMW: 3rd
Nick Heidfeld, is now a veteran in F1 but he is has only had 1 Pole and no wins, that in most parts is down to the motor he is driving but the 'Spurs' of F1 are on the up and up and Nick will need a race win or 3 to keep his drive next season, with big free agents in the form of Alonso & Button leer at his spot from afar.
V360 Prediction for Heidfeld: 7th
Robert Kubica, is one of the hottest prospects in F1 and could show Heidfeld up by competing with the big boys on a regular basis, certainly a man to watch but with his term at BMW contractually ending at the end of the season, he will also need a race win and maybe more to secure himself of a job with the outfit.
V360 Predictions for Kubica: 5th
[glow=orange,2,300]Renault[/glow]
Nando & Renault Take 2
Alonso will be after race wins but i don't see Renault returning to the good old times of 2 years ago just yet, Renault will be pushing hard for podiums and that is all they can really expect as they will have to fend off quite a few teams to even stay in the points.
V360 Prediction for Renault: 4th
The 2-time World Champ, is back where he never should have left, alot has changed, well only how the team is performing really, the same core of the team is still here from the last time Alonso walked out on them to drive for Mclaren. He looks likely to do the same again at the end of this season unless the magic of Renault's success has returned with the Spaniard. Alonso needs to be optimistic going into the season and perhaps Renault will be able to put a couple of race wins together but they are not back at the same level yet to challenge Ferrari & Mclaren for the top honours again.
V360 Predictions for Alonso: 6th
Joining Alonso in the French team is young gun Nelson Piquet Jr.
'The Next Lewis Hamilton' has arrived in F1, the young Brazilian looks capable of producing similar results as our boy did last season but instead of race wins and podium after podium, Nelson will be realistically looking for a couple of podiums and strong finishes in the points.
V360 Prediction for Piquet Jnr.: 9th.
[glow=blue,2,300]Williams[/glow]
Williams will be similar to last season, capable of sticking a car on the podium but consistancy to do so regularly or more than twice is hard to find for them, depending on reliability they could end up knocking on Renault's door for positions, then again they may be just another also ran near the back.
V360 Prediction for Williams: 6th.
That is the face of Williams F1 2008 season, they seem to be hanging their hats on this man to pull them through another season, Nico Rosberg. Nico has got potential, he will almost certainly need to move on from Williams to fulfill his potential but at 22 years of age no need to rush, he should have enough behind him to push for points finishes but any higher aspirations would be dreaming.
V360 Prediction for Rosberg: 11th.
Joining him in the Williams is Japanese necomer Kazuki Nakajima, i have no idea what the young man is capable of but it could be a feeling out first season in F1, expect a couple of non-finishes from him but i'm not sure how high he could go, could be a suprise package waiting to be unwrapped.
V360 Prediction for Nakajima: 15th.
[glow=purple,2,300]Red Bull[/glow]
Red Bull will be hoping they can challenge BMW's lofty position as third best but they are pushing it tbh, Newey's technical nouse will be a crucial part to where they finish, reliability is the key.
V360 Prediction for Red Bull: 5th.
Last Call?
Team Red Bull, consist of experienced duo David Coulthard & Mark Webber. DC could be on his swansong season this year, nobody quite knows, he insists he will race-on but that would depend on whether Red Bull will stick by him for another year next year, if things go really wrong this season, he could be gone before then with Vettel & Bourdais more than capable of taking his spot. DC will be strong in races but ultimately he won't be challenging for podiums imo.
V360 Prediction for DC: 8th.
Mark Webber, the fiery Aussie is veering towards the undesired status of a never-was , He needs a win and badly, in his sixth season now, he will be pushing the car hard to put it on the podium more times than not, whether the car will withstand the swears that will be coughed out of Mark's mouth when it goes south again will be another question entirely. Webber will consistently get point finishes but i don't see him ever winning a race.
V360 Prediction for Webber: 10th.
[glow=red,2,300]Toyota[/glow]
This is going to be the season where Toyota will need to move forward, they struggled last season after two seasons of good decent results and becoming the 4th best team, they have fallen off the pace quite considerably. Toyota as said above will need to give their boys the car to do things with, they didn't last season but with the negative attitude Ralf appeared to have on the team last season gone, this may be a transitional season for Toyota with the hopes of success later in the season.
V360 Prediction for Toyota: 9th
Jarno Trulli will spearhead the team but he can only do so much in a struggling car, Toyota will need to give Jarno a decent machine to even score points, the experienced Trulli will have his hands full with it though and will struggle along with the team to score double figures.
V360 Prediction for Trulli: 16th.
Timo Glock, the 2007 GP2 World Champ will have to rise above the car's abilities to follow Hamilton's successfull transition into F1, I can't see Glock appearing in the points on many occasions, will be another newcomer, feeling his way around this season.
V360 Prediction for Glock: 20th.
[glow=gold,2,300]Toro Rosso[/glow]
Well, what can i say, Red Bull's 2nd team on the grid will be the team to look out for, they have a decent car and two brilliant drivers in Sebastien Bourdais & Sebastian Vettel.
V360 Prediction for Toro Rosso: 7th
Get a nice shot of this spec-bound genius of the wheel, if he impresses at Toro Rosso, it could be a case of out with the old in with the new for Red Bull. Bourdais, the 4-time Champ Car Champion could have been a F1 world champ by now, he signed with Arrows back in 2003 only for the team to go bankrupt. Now 29 Bourdais is in his prime and he has a decent enough motor to prove his worth, look out for him challenging his Red Bull older brothers for points and podiums.
V360 Prediction for Bourdais: 13th.
An F1 Legend in the making, F1's youngest points scorer will be doing impressive things behind the wheel of Red Bull Junior once again, much like Bourdais, Vettel is capable of challenging DC & Webber all the way and may force himself a promotion depending on results, there could be a sneaky podium in the offing for the 20 year old boy wonder.
V360 Prediction for Vettel: 12th
[glow=red,2,300]Honda[/glow]
Honda will be looking for a new impetus under Ross Brawn's watch and that is what they will get........next season. His magic will show near the end of the season but early results will be iffy, Montreal will be their race to run at, Honda always do well in Canada and they may strike a podium there.
V360 Prediction for Honda: 8th.
Jenson Button & Rubens Barrichello are likely to be leaving Honda at the end of the season, Rubens for reasons i will explain later but for Button, if the team can't score points he is out of here. Button with one solitary win under his belt will be hoping that Ross Brawn will be able to sprinkle his magic on Honda's fortunes this season but i expect it to be a trying season once again and a podium finish or 2 is all Jenson can expect before moving to a faster team next season, his dreams of being a F1 World Champ are looking like they have been burnt but a fresh team will help him in '09 for now he must try his best in a flailing team.
V360 Prediction for Button: 14th.
Rubens is a veteran who is possibly on his last season in F1, the ex-Ferrari man struggled to make an impact in his first season with Honda, he will be an also-ran towards the back thinking of his brighter days in red. Points is all he can hope for but not many.
V360 Prediction for Rubens: 17th.
[glow=red,2,300]Super Aguri[/glow]
Super Aguri, Honda team 2 will be near the back, in the middle and cheekily on occasions the front-end but it will be a rare sight to see this team in the points more than once.
V360 Prediction for Aguri: 10th
The fun never stops with Taku and this season will be no different. Expect erratic driving, brilliant driving and a couple of offs, some points too, Honda will want their B team to be the B team this season though and expect Jenson & co. to get a bit ass-ey should Aguri put their cars under pressure.
V360 Prediction (Sato): 18th.
Aguri's British representative is Anthony Davidson, he will be alongside Taku and Anthony will be hoping for some points this season but may be forced to be an also-ran near the back.
V360 Prediction for Davidson: 21st.
Force India
Formerly Jordan, Formerly Midland F1, Formerly Spyker F1, NOW named Force India, this team is the wooden spoon team, new direction may bring them good results but nothing further than the mid-teen positions will be possible, even with former Renault man Giancarlo Fisichella.
V360 Prediction FIndia: 11th.
The Italian veteran is in the twilight of his career, no doubt and has signed to keep his passion for F1 driving going for 1 maybe 2 more seasons longer he will spearhead this team and will feel good about their predicament and will feel honoured to be the man who could put FI on the map.
V360 Prediction for Fisi: 19th.
Adrian Sutil, the German 25 year old will be pushing the pack from the back once again, i can only see points if extreme weather befalls a race, which it will at somepoint.
V360 Prediction for Sutil: 22nd.
[glow=black,2,300]Mclaren Mercedes[/glow]
Second Season Syndrome, synonymous with the football world, this could be the case for one Lewis Hamilton and to a degree his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen. Mclaren will have a transitional season this season, they can win races but that looks bloody hard from where they are, down at the bottom of the garage. Lewis will be pushing them as hard as he can but Mclaren will almost be in consolidation mode this season, ready to go for the titles next.
V360 Prediction Mclaren: 2nd.
Boy wonder will be hoping he can right the wrongs he made at the end of last season, had the World Title at a arms-reach but blew it right at the death. He will certainly win races this season, how many is the question, i am thinking it would take brilliant performances from the whole team to get them to race wins and Lewis for our country's united interest in the sport will be hoping he can win a fair few.
V360 Prediction for Lewis: 3rd.
Heikki Kovalainen will be the perfect team-mate to Lewis this season unlike last, reliable, quick and team-minded, he will provide perfect rear guard action for Lewis to run for glory and when the oppotunites arise he will be on hand to grab his first race win.
V360 Prediction for Heikki: 4th.
Round 1: Albert Park, Melbourne, Austrailia.
Always a reliable season opener, chances for overtaking a sparse in parts but it always throws up brilliant entertainment be sure to check this race out, it is a spectacle to be seen.
ITV will be you're port of call once again, always reliable and Brundle's grid walk is a highlight. Qualifying will be on late/early Friday night/Saturday morning & the race will be on early Sunday morning, so make sure you rest up before hand to catch the whole flavour of the weekend, it's worth it trust me .
V360 Prediction for Round 1:
(Qualifying) Pole - Kimi, 2nd Massa, 3rd Alonso.
(Race) 1st Massa, 2nd Kimi, 3rd Heidfeld.
The Aussie Pit/Grid Babes are some of the most pretty darn things in the world:
So when the red lights go out early Sunday morning, the 2008 Formula One Season will be GO! GO! GO!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Hope you enjoyed the preview of the teams and drivers and the first race will be updating as the season goes on or new threads for each race, look out for the first ever night race taking place later in the year . Karma would be nice too .
