Hey, I was watching one of his old movies last night, Year of the Dragon, and I still can't get over that's the same guy that starred in The Wrestler. Here's a screen cap of Mickey Rourke from Year of the Dragon: And here's a screen cap of him from this past Sunday night on the red carpet at the Oscar's: Not only does he not look anything like he used to, he sure as hell doesn't sound the same either. Before, in his earlier movies, he was so soft spoken and sounded so different than he does now. Now, his voice sounds deeper and alot rougher than it used to. I just can't believe that's the same guy is all. He must've been through ALOT through the years, that's for sure. Because if you ask me, I'd say they look like two different people. That's how much he's changed. What do you all think??

Those two pictures one after the other is the definition of a double take.

You do know he has had ALOT of plastic surgery. Right? To be honest, no I didn't know he had any plastic surgery done. But now that you mention it...It DEFNITELY makes sense now, that's for sure. However, that wouldn't have any affect on his voice, would it?? Maybe it would, I don't know...All I know, is that he looks and sounds totally different. I'm tellin' ya, throw in Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man if you have it and you won't believe that's the same friggin' guy from The Wrestler. It's shocking..

He boxed for 5 years after "quitting acting," and had multiple surgeries done to fix his face. Apparently nothing worked. But I love the guy, and think he looks more bad-ass now than ever before.

a combination of drugs, drinking, and boxing easily does that to your face.

Well, no matter what, I'm glad he's still here. Because he proved with the right role and right movie, he can put on a tremendous performance. He's an awesome actor and I'm glad he's back on top.
Just like Sean Penn said on Oprah, "he's been depriving us for too long".

In his younger days he looked like Bruce Willis with hair, and I find it funny how Bruce Willis ended up playing at least three roles origionally pitched to Rourke, including Die Hard and Pulp Fiction.

Most of the plastic surgery came from boxing injuries, I believe.

Mickey Rourke didn't do drugs, he claims to never have touched them. He was just a hardcore drinker, and alcohol... age... smoking... these things do not help a person age gracefully.

I didn't know about the boxing thing...that's interesting. I know he's had battles with drugs and alcohol though. That does a lot to you physically. That's why his voice is a lot rougher now than it use to be. I think he looks badass. He was awesome in Sin City as Marv (probably my fave character in that movie) and I really liked his character in Domino.

He really is the Axl Rose of film. Despite their friendship, they have a lot in common.

Smoking also can dramatically effect your voice, for sure. Just compare the voice of '70s Al Pacino to the voice of the current Al Pacino.
