I think The Rock. He just the perfect wrestler.

Merchandise wise, betting against Stone Cold Steve Austin - when ANYBODY opposes him is a stupid move.

Austin definitely moved more merchandise. I'd put Austin's run in the WWE over the Rock's as well, in terms of more memorable matches and moments.

I love The Rock, favorite of all time...but Austin was definitely bigger.
Although The Rock was better on the mic and better in the ring I'd say at his peak, Austin was just a badass that was just the definitive face of his era.
They were just different, but both perfect.

Austin for sure. No one came close to reaching his popularity in my opinion. Plus id didn't help The Rock was a heel for the biggest part of run as a title contender.

You'd really hate to compare them because they were so different but made for great opponents, but I'm inclined to go with Austin, as he truly was the definitive face of the WWE for the era, was in headlining feuds all the way through and despite starting as a heel, became a face due to fans' feedback... The Rock did the opposite, started as a face, and was booed vociferously for it, and then did his own thing which caught on like no one's business...
We all benefitted as fans, which is how it should be, eh?

Hello everybody remember the bionic redneck and "die rocky die" that changed their wrestling lives?

Austin because he was the biggest hit, because if you ask somebody if they watch wrestling, and they say they used to, the one guy they bring up is stone cold, not the rock.

Austin.
yes the Rock got HUGE when Austin went out in the fall of 99 and his popularity never diminished but Austin was still more over.
Austin also moved more stuff than Rock.the Austin 3:16 shirt was a monster........
and yeah he had a better run too.........

I guess it was SCSA but I voted for the Rock because I liked him better and it wasn't like SCSA was head and shoulders above the Rock.

ok, i see what everybody is talking about and while rock was huge, he was no austin. Austin took the strap from rock 2 times at WM and hell, rock took some damn good stunners. *WM17*. Austin also won the most RR's and took the belt in a great match with HBK that goes down as one of my favs.
