My parents divorced when I was 11. Like lots of people have said, the worst thing you can do right now is feel like you're responsible for it. Let me just say this, you're going to feel pretty crapty about this. For a while. It gets better, I promise.

That is sad to hear but my parents have been divorced since I was like 6 so that is really all I grew up with.
So are you going to live with your dad or your mom or do you not know all of this yet?..

I'll be 20 in two weeks. (Yes, I still live with my parents)
My dad is staying here until he finds a place and after that I'll probably switch it up, just depending on what each one has going on.

Yeah I suggest splitting the time. A good thing that will come out of this is you will become closer with your parents. Seriously, I know this doesn't help now but trust me it will get better. |

My parents divorced when I was 12, and it's still difficult in many aspects. It didn't effect me externally, but internally I was pretty confused.
Remember that it's most likely that this isn't just a snap decision and they are doing it for the best.

My parents got divorced when I was like 6 or 7. I can't imagine it can be all that bad for you right now at your age, Slappy. You're probably on the way out of the house anyways.

I'm so sorry slappy I know how you feel my parents got divorced when I was young it was very rough. I remember thinking what can I do to get them back together? But I then realized it had nothing to do with me. So don't blame yourself thats the worst thing you could do.
The best thing you can do is just try and make the best of it.

Mine got divorced when I was 13, and it was horrible. I cried like every night. But now I'm able to see how much happier they are apart. And while that's somewhat sad because they made me, I'm happy that they're living the lives that they're supposed to live and it's made me have better relationships with them both.
Whatever you do, don't hang on to any sliver of hope that they'll get back together. You're probably old enough not to, but it's a big let down if you do. Like experiencing it all over again when you realize how wrong you are.
And you have nothing to do with it. Kids never do (unless a kid dies, that often ends in divorce).

Ill be straight forward and honest. Maybe a little brutal but trust me I mean nothing but good. Whatever happened between them is not your fault and even though you probably will, you have no reason to blame yourself. Having your parents split up will take some getting use to. For a very long time you're gonna see one and not the other and then the other and not the other....You're gonna wish for a long time that they would all be together and it would be one big happy family but chances are its not going to happen. My parents divorced in 93/94...Honestly Im not really sure, I went through all of this but also at the same time I noticed my parents were happier apart then they were together. They didnt lose any love for me and they were still and always will be my parents. At first you're gonna wanna be very selfish and only want what you want but trust me as you get older you will realize that its better off they are not together, especially if they arent happy. My parents have been split for I guess around 15 years now, I see both my parents whenever I like (im 25 so I can come and go) but its def going to be a change but it can be a change for good. You'll get to spend more "guy" time with your dad (if you're even into that) and you can do more....well I was gonna say girl things but I think you know what I mean  ....basically you'll be able to develop closer and new relationships with your parents then you probably thought you would have before. Also if you're lucky you can get a new smoking hot step mom to look at......or in your case, step dad  |

mine never got to the divorce stage but they split up 9 times while me and my sister were growing up it was pretty rough dad would beat us and through us through glass and all this horrible crap and it was just a huge mess each time, ughh sucked but i guess we made it through it alright i mean we are both normal functioning adults, i guess adivce for ya? i say love them both inspite of themselves jsut show them both unconditional love and know they both love you still even if this is what they choose to do with there marrige. its hard i know but yeah its not you, nothing you could of done could of made it happen its just they cant make eachother happy anymore or they gave up trying but its them not you your good dood, but yeah it sucks just love them through it all i got for ya, but im sorry its happening to you

Unlucky mate. Cant think of anything else to say that hasn't been said apart from, as your birthday is so clos, just get enveloped in the enjoyment of that and make sure you have an awesome one. Go out with friends and relax. Also, 2 presents from parents  |
