Yeah, so what band/s do you believe will take that huge step into superstardom in the 10's (feels weird saying that)?
I personally think Shinedown will take that step and become HUGE names in rock like Bon Jovi, etc. They have definitely had success, but I think they will take that step and become superstars.

Shinedown and Cage The Elephant. I have a feeling that those two and some others are going to break radio music away from all the generic Nickelbacks, Theory of a Deadmans, etc. Sort of like grunge did with hair metal.

I think the Minneapolis-based band, Take Cover, will start to take off shortly. They are catchy, and I'm surprised they haven't been signed to a major label yet. Same goes for You, Me, and Everyone We Know and Hello Hollywood.

Shinedown sounds just as generic as Nickelback to me.  But anyway, one way or another Miley Cyrus is only going to get bigger. Here's to hoping she goes the Lindsay Lohan route and becomes a total whore! |

The things in bold are the same. Shinedown has been around for how long and not got huge. What makes this next decade their time to be "huge"? Just because they sound slightly better, doesn't mean they are. They still play generic rock music. But to stay on topic, Arcade Fire will get bigger, like they have with every album. They will be the Springsteen of the future, maybe not in this decade but over time they will fill stadiums. Other bands: Solange Knowles will get big but not for being a pop star like her sister necessarily. But for her work with of Montreal(who recently wrote a song for Beyonce), which will set her apart from what every single pop star does. I would also expect of Montreal to branch out and their giant bucket of weird will spill out to more than just the indie crowd. MGMT will probably get huge off of "Congratulations". The next big move in music will not be these generic rock bands like Shinedown and that crap. It's going to be the music at festivals like Coachella, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. Everyone from Jay-Z(loves Grizzly Bear) to Kid Cudi(MGMT) to Beyonce(of Montreal) to Trent Reznor(Mew, HEALTH, Dillinger Escape Plan) loves these bands. While some of you may not consider them "talented", they influence what their fans listen to, and their fan base is huge. |

Kings of Leon and Muse have already taken huge steps in becoming superstars. They're going to be the "next big thing" long before Shinedown.
I think rock music as a whole is heading toward the alternative trends of bands like Kings and Muse anyway, and those two bands are paving the way for plenty of others to come through. I honestly think we could see a huge transition in the next couple of years.
I'd like to say Chevelle could bust out again, but I doubt it. Unfortunately, their melodic style and deep lyrics aren't what the Nickelback generation wants to hear anymore. It pains me when people lump Chevelle in with those bands, because they just keep getting better and better.
