Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch "Nintendo 3DS"(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.
"Nintendo 3DS"(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed "Nintendo DS series", whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.
We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

I HATE 3D! This is stupid as hell... I'm not going to even bother with it. I need a new DS as I still have the original one but I'm just gonna go for a DS Lite or XL

Count me in. I've yet to be disappointed by a Nintendo handheld yet.
Plus. I don't think people fully understand what they mean by glassesless 3D. What they're trying to do is add a level of depth perception to games that has rarely been realized before. It's an easy trick to accomplish, especially if the hardware features cameras. Even the Wii is capable of this trick with head tracking.
That's a current DSiWare title. I expect that it's going to pretty much be a beefed up version of what that game is doing.

I'm intrigued, but I did just get a DSi very recently.

I've had every Gameboy since the original, since 1990.
Thanks for flushing 20 years of business down the toilet, Nintendo.

I think it's hilarious that people are freaking out about this. The big problem with typical 3D is that it requires you to wear glasses to enjoy (or extra glasses in my case). This won't require glasses. If people are angry that it's a gimmck, you know what else is a gimmick? A portable system with two screens.
Even with all that said, I don't have that much interest in buying it because I'm not a fan of 90% of Nintendo games so I won't have any reason to get it until the obligatory Pokemon game with 3D comes out.

Not a big deal, people. If you don't want it, don't buy it. I plan on getting an XL. It's more suitable for me because I have big hands. LOL

I don't understand the point of announcing a whole new DS before the XL has even come out.

I've got an original DS I bought the year it came out. I think I'm gonna go with the XL. I don't care for 3D gimmicks.

Does anybody remember the reaction when the DS was originally announced? Now it's one of Nintendo's most successful products ever.

true but the DS and GBA are light years apart, i think we could survive without 3D gaming right now

The Ipod Touch is where its at..... The Game Store alone has outsold the PSP system.

Rumor has it that the unit has force feedback and an analog stick, which is a MUCH welcome addition. 3D gaming isn't all that great with a d pad only or a "virtual" thumbstick like the DS or iPhone/iTouch go for.

Totally. And listen. A gimmick IS just a gimmick. But sometimes, that's okay when a gimmick works. 3D gaming is far more interesting than 3D film or television. I think a more natural, realistic depth perception is the next logical step in gaming graphics. Sure, starting it off on a handheld device is weird, but whatever, this IS Nintendo after all. The don't follow logic and reason. They create their own.

I'm going to guess that the reason we haven't seen Pikmin 3 is because it's being developed for this thing. Pikmin would be AMAZING with 3D and advanced touch controls.
