WCWA is in turning point, of sorts. For so long, the top of the federation has been dominated by the saga of Chris Hero and Eddie Kingston. But now, following Dark Desires.. That's over. And neither man walked away with the championship, instead Jack Evans did. Which begs the question, who recieves the next championship opportunity? The former champion, friend of Jack Evans, in Eddie Kingston? Or Chris Hero, who lost the championship to Kingston, but was not pinned in the three way match? Or possibly a new contender? We at WCWA always like to reward the top contender's with championship opportunities. Afterall, who wants to see a match a guy that has no chance of winning the championship? The Mulkey Brothers challenging for the tag team titles does not equal ratings. So for the first time in our companies existance, WCWA board of directors, including Bobby Eaton, Jason Verdoes, Dave Lenker, and others, assembled to form the top ten contender's list. This is NOT a definite list of who will recieve the future championship matches. This is simply who will be in line AT THIS TIME. If someone loses a big match, they will lose their spot in the top ten contender's list.
#1 Contender's List
#10 JC Bailey
12-9-1, tag team record 1-1-0
#9 WCWA World Tag Team Champion Delirious
3-1-0, tag team record 5-2-0
#8 Necro Butcher
7-4-0, tag team record 0-2-2
#7 Danny Havoc
2-1-0, tag team record of 0-0-2
#6 Chuck Taylor
5-2-2, tag team record of 3-0-0
#5 WCWA International Champion Tommy End
The dark horse in the championship race. By in ring record alone, one would say Tommy End is no where near the top of the level, with a record of 3-5-1. But, those losses all came to much larger competitors, that all rank higher in this top five contender's list than Tommy End. And in each and every loss, Tommy End showed unbelievable heart and determination, something that has earned him opportunity after opportunity, and also the WCWA International championship.
#4 Eddie Kingston
The last Heavyweight champion prior to Jack Evans, it's suprising how low Eddie Kingston fell, immediately. For the last several months, Eddie Kingston has been deadeyed on Chris Hero, which has definately come with a whiplashing effect. Kingston has an in ring record of 6-5-0, with a tag team record of 2-2-0. After suffering the pinfall loss in the three way match at Dark Desires, Kingston has to do a little bit to propell himself back into the spotlight of the Heavyweight championship.
#3 Chris Hero
One could say that Chris Hero is the franchise of WCWA, with no pun intended to the Synthetic color commentator of the same name. With an in ring record of 10-4-1, with an undefeated tag team record of 4-0-0, Hero has always been the most dominant force in WCWA. Whatever he looks out to do, he does. Alongside Chuck Taylor, he holds the rare three points for tag team title contention. Chris Hero just recently lost the Heavyweight championship and in his immediate rematch at Dark Desires, was not pinned. This puts Hero in a more envious spot than the last champion, Eddie Kingston, who ranks #4.
#2 WCWA Death Match Champion Brain Damage
Anyone who watched the King of the Death Matches at Dark Desires would have a hard time arguing Brain Damage's dominance. No one has been able to manhandle the Necro Butcher the way that Brain Damage did. He absolutely destroyed The Messiah, albeit an injured Messiah, and in the finals, survived one of the damndest death matches in WCWA history. Damage has a WCWA in ring record that is almost unheard of. 12-2-0 in singles matches with no recorded tag team matches. One of the two losses he took was in his WCWA debut, against Necro Butcher, a loss which he has now avenged, twice.
#1: Claudio Castagnoli
The #1 contender at this time is a bit of a shocker, Double C Claudio Castagnoli. But when you look at Castagnoli's record in WCWA, it's hard to argue. With an in ring record as of Dark Desires of 5-0-0 in singles matches and 1-0-0 in tag team matches, Castagnoli is unbeaten. His only "loss" came by a disqualification elimination in the Cibernetico match, but his team still came out on top in the end. Castagnoli is the only technically undefeated wrestler on the WCWA roster. It is with this extremely dominant record that Castagnoli is named the top contender for the WCWA World Heavyweight championship.
