This is some great stuff, Bob. Love the way you incorporated a personal opinion of Beefcake within this as DiBiase, in what is probably a true fact. Wow, Beefcake getting in an unplanned shot makes for some tension. With the way this is rolling, this could definitely and easily be one of the greatest things on the board.

May 10th, 1988: Duluth, MN
12:00pm - 1:05pm: Virgil and myself enter the Entertainment Convention Center for the Superstars taping and as we enter we get a lot of looks from the boys. Clearly, Beefcake has been going around telling his side of the story of what happened a few days ago. Virgil and I just casually walk to the locker room where Jim Neidhart and Bret Hart are lacing up their boots among other wrestlers. Hart shakes my hand for helping him get his mind in the right state of mind and that he feels obligated to tell me that Beefcake has been really throwing me under the bus to the boys. I didn’t bother to hear what Beefcake was saying so I asked Hart where Beefcake was. Hart says the last that he knew Beefcake was waiting outside Vince McMahon’s office. It seems to me that Beefcake is going to the boss to screw me over on my push. That isn’t going to be fine with me.
1:15pm - 3:00pm: I march over to the McMahon’s office where I see Beefcake sitting in a chair. As soon as Beefcake sees me he gets a worried look on his face and tries to stand up tall to me. I am not intimidated by a fool like Beefcake. I tried to keep my cool but I ended up raising my voice so high that McMahon opened his door and demanded we come in right that second. Luckily. McMahon was just making Beefcake wait for no reason and their wasn’t anything important going on. McMahon sat us down and wanted to know what our issues were. I told McMahon that Beefcake knew about my broken nose and decided to still punch me without telling me so I could protect myself. Beefcake denied that he knew anything about my broken nose. I proceeded to tell McMahon that several wrestlers will back me up and say that Beefcake has been going around telling them that he did hit me on my broken nose for revenge on behalf of Hogan. McMahon was confused as to why it would be revenge. I told him that Hogan apparently thought I was a little stiff with him during the attack on SNME. McMahon asked Beefcake this and demanded to know the truth. After a few moments of trying to think of a excuse, Beefcake eventually broke down and admitted that he was trying to protect Hogan. Beefcake even said that Hogan didn’t directly tell him that I was too stiff, instead that was just Beefcake’s opinion! I was fuming at that news because now I have the reputation of a stiff guy, and it was made by a guy I didn’t even commit that stiff act upon. Beefcake tried to apologize to me as he knows that it wasn’t right, and I deep down inside didn’t want to hear it. However, when McMahon told me that we needed to work with each other in order to keep the angle alive and my match with Hogan at Summer Slam to have some importance to it, I told Beefcake that all is forgiven. Which was a lie, but sometime you need to lie in order to get what you want. As is shake Beefcake’s hand I had a disgusting feeling in my stomach. Something didn’t feel right when I shook his hand.
4:00pm - 4:20pm: I talk to Pat Patterson about a promo I will be doing on Beefcake. Patterson laid out a idea as to what I need to say. But, I didn’t bother to pay much attention to it. I knew what I was going to say, and I was actually going to mean it. I just had to find a way to make it seem like it was all a character.
8:00pm - 8:35pm: After a jobber match I head to the backstage area to get ready for a interview with Mean Gene.
Mean Gene: DiBiase, Beefcake nearly cut off you hair on the last Superstars show. What is your reaction to that?
Ted DiBiase: You want to know my reaction to that? My reaction is that I feel bad for that coward Brutus Beefcake. Beefcake is not a man. He is not a wrestler. He is a coward who needs to use scissors to try and get a upper hand. Typically he would just hide behind his best friend Hulk Hogan but after my master plan with Bam-Bam Bigelow to take out his hero, he has no one in the WWF to coward behind. Everyone knows this and deep down inside Beefcake knows that the Million Dollar Man is just better than him!
Mean Gene: DiBiase, you are saying that Beefcake isn’t a talented wrestler? How can you possibly say he is a coward?
Ted DiBiase: Gene, the proof is on the video. Only a coward comes out with a weapon to take out his opponent. What Bigelow and myself did to Hogan was not cowardly. It was a brilliant plan and we did it without using any sort of weapon. All we needed to use was our fists and we proved to the world that Hulk Hogan isn’t invincible. I will say this Gene, Brutus Beefcake will get to see his friend sooner than he thinks. Because, when it is all set and done, Beefcake will be laying in the hospital bed right next to his hero! (laughs)
10:00pm - 10:40pm: Virgil and I are done for the night and we get ready to leave the arena. I am told that Beefcake wants to talk to me personally but I have no interest in talking to him. I know that if I were to talk to him behind close doors just me and him things may get ugly. It is better for me to avoid him and only interact with him when I really need to.
11:15pm - 12:30am: I call up my wife and tell her that today McMahon pretty much confirmed to me that I would be facing Hogan at Summer Slam. I didn’t tell Virgil because I want him to be surprised. I had to tell my wife for financial reasons. She seemed to be pretty happy about it because she knows how important it is to me that I get that pay per view blow off with Hogan. After catching up with my wife for an hour or so I head to bed knowing that I am in a good place right now.

Good to see a new entry. The heat with Ted and Beefcake is very interesting. Hope Dibiase does indeed face Hogan at SS. Hope you keep this up.

Damn good write up this one was. Liking all the backstage heat going on between DiBiase and Beefcake, and the interview did seem like a shoot in character - which is great. Looking forward to some more of this.

I love how you capture the animosity amongst the boys in the back. Ted getting the nod to face Hogan at Summer Slam is tremendous.

May 15th, 1988: Chicago, IL
8:00am - 8:50am: I meet up with Virgil at the diner down the street from the hotel and tell him that I need to confront Beefcake and let him know that I don’t appreciate what he has been doing to me. Virgil agrees that it is a good idea to get it all out in open instead of having the bad feelings carry on. I know that as soon as I tell him off that he will go to Hogan and try to kill my push for Summer Slam but what Beefcake doesn’t know is that Hogan and I already have taken our promo shots for the event. There is no turning back now that we are a few months away from the big show. It always feels great knowing that you have the advantage over your enemy.
2:00pm - 2:40pm: Virgil and I arrive at the Rosemont Horizon and run into Bret Hart who looks really depressed. I tell Virgil to go ahead and I sit down to talk to Hart who is just sitting in a chair looking at the floor without blinking. I get his attention and Hart seems as if he didn’t even notice me right in front of his face. I ask Hart what is going on and if everything is okay. Hart says that his family has run into a big financial hole and that within the week the famous Hart house will be up for sale. Apparently, Bruce had made some poor investments for Stu and Helen. I leave Bret telling him that if he needs anything to let me know and I will do my best to help him out in anyway I can.
5:00pm - 6:05pm: I walk up to Beefcake in the locker room and ask for several enhancement guys leave the area. Beefcake was having them shine his boots and iron his clothing. Beefcake tries to tell me that he is sorry but I tell him that I don’t want to hear it. With McMahon not around I wanted to tell him how I truly felt about him and needed to get it off my chest. I told Beefcake that anything I do with Hogan doesn’t concern him and that if Hogan were to have any issue with me he should come to me. Beefcake tried to chime in but I said that Beefcake has been trying to ruin my reputation and end the possibility of me being able to provide a good paycheck for my family. I tell Beefcake that if the rolls were reversed I wouldn’t have done what he did to me. I tell Beefcake that tonight I will work professionally with him and will not take any liberties with him. If he decides that he wants to take advantage of me while I trust him in the ring he will suffer the consequences and I made sure he knew that was a threat. I didn’t allow Beefcake to say one thing to me as all I wanted to do is get everything off my chest and be completely honest with the boy.
Ted DiBiase defeated Brutus Beefcake: They trade right hand with Beefcake getting the advantage and hammers away on DiBiase. Beefcake hip tosses DiBiase out of the corner and connects with a series of clotheslines. DiBiase misses a wild clothesline and Beefcake is able to atomic drop DiBiase. Beefcake sends DiBiase into the corner and attempts a running body splash but DiBiase gets out of the way and drives Beefcake down with back suplex. DiBiase comes off the ropes and delivers a running knee to the side of Beefcake’s face. DiBiase follows up with a swinging neck breaker for a near fall and argues with the referee. Beefcake is able to roll up DiBiase from behind but DiBiase kicks out at two. Beefcake locks in a sleeper hold but DiBiase staggers around and trips the referee with his foot which allows Virgil to rake Beefcake’s eyes. DiBiase takes advantage of this and locks in the Million Dollar Dream! Beefcake passes out and DiBiase wins the contest.
10:10pm - 10:30pm: Pat Patterson meets up with me after I get out of the shower to let me know that I will not be working matches on the television shows leading up to the Summer Slam match. I’m getting the Hulk Hogan treatment as they want me to not get in ant physical altercations with any wrestlers before the showdown. All they ask of me is to cut a few interviews and work house shows. I accepted this as I don’t want to be wrestling too much on television before the match. I really think fans are looking forward to me getting my butt kicked!
11:15pm - 11:30pm: I head to my hotel room and go to bed happy as I know that everything in my life is going good. But when I think about that, I think about Bret. I have to figure out a way to help him out.

man this is crazy good, just read the last two entries on this page. such realism and passion behind this. I like how this Dibiase and Beefcake situation heated up and then Ted was the man to cool it. Also, nice touch on Bret's family having financial trouble. Are you basing it off his biography at all?

I like how Ted and Virgil are travelling together, and Virgil is almost like the 'bounce off' guy for Ted, giving his opinions on his ideas, and also on how Ted should approach situation. The way that you've integrated the personal issues of the Hart Family as a side story as such is very good, and it makes the diary a lot more realistic in my eyes, a friend trying to help someone in need. I'm glad Beefcake was confronted, and that Ted has managed to make sure he knows not to mess with him, because thats adding more elements of character to Ted the person. Ted being kept fresh for Summerslam wrestling wise is good, and I like the idea of him being built with promos as opposed to wrestling. The final diary entry coming back to Bret was nice, and I wonder where things will go from here.

May 22nd , 1988: Philadelphia, PA
8:30am - 9:15am: I head down to the dining area as soon as I wake up and see Bam-Bam Bigelow talking to Pat Patterson. From what I could see Bigelow wasn’t happy about whatever was being told to him. I waited for a few minutes for Patterson to leave and went over to Bigelow to see what was going on with him. Bigelow at first didn’t want to tell me, but eventually opened up. Bigelow thought he was in line for a title match against Randy Savage at Summer Slam because he was involved in the big angle with myself and Hogan. He was just told that McMahon decided to go with Savage vs. Rude at the pay per view instead. Bigelow was pretty upset to find out that he was working with Brutus Beefcake on the show. I told him that he needs to remain level headed or he will never be given the opportunity to work as a main event guy. Bigelow didn’t seem to care for my advice and went back to his room.
10:45am - 11:25am: Virgil meets up with me at the workout station in the hotel and begins to ask me about my Summer Slam match with Hogan. He was wondering if I was mad about not working with Savage at the pay per view. I am not mad at all. I know that later in the year I have been told about a World Title run either in November or in early 1989. But, I know for a fact that I can make more money with Hogan than I can with Randy Savage. Even without the championship, Hogan is the biggest draw for the WWF and makes the most money when it comes to being a draw. I brought Bret Hart and told Virgil that I am thinking of something to do with Bret maybe after Summer Slam, since their will be a stretch of time where their will not be a pay per view and could work a small Saturday Night Main Event show in October. Virgil didn’t know if that was a good idea as that could be seen as if I was taking myself out of the main event rotation. He brought up a good point, but it has gotten to the point where I feel like I need to help out Bret any way I can.
5:00pm - 5:45pm: I showed up to the Spectrum and just hung out around backstage as I didn’t have a match on the show. Instead, I just had a basic run in with Bigelow to take out Beefcake during his match with the Brooklyn Brawler. Bigelow would do most of the beat down while I would cut a promo on Hulk Hogan throughout the beating. This would be aired on a Primetime Wrestling show in early June.
8:00pm - 8:15pm: Bigelow runs a few ideas past me when in comes to the beat down on Beefcake. I told Bigelow to not be rough with Beefcake as Beefcake will try to screw you over or just flat out lie about it. So I told him to be careful. Bigelow seemed annoyed with me as if I was treating him like a child. I could see he was starting to act like one. I’m just looking out for him.
Bigelow and DiBiase march down to the ring with DiBiase distracting Beefcake. Bigelow slides into the ring and nails Beefcake across the back of the head with a leaping kick. Bigelow power slams Beefcake and comes off the ropes with several head butts as DiBiase grabs a microphone.
Ted DiBiase: Oh Brutus Beefcake, how do you feel chump? Do you feel helpless? Now you know what Hulk Hogan felt when we took him out. He felt helpless even when you and that dummy Jim Duggan were just footsteps away. These fans cheer for you out of sympathy and cheer for you because you are the closest they will ever get to Hulk Hogan. Hogan is out of the WWF, we took him out! You are all alone and there is nothing you can do about it! (laughs).
(Bigelow heads to the top rope and leaps off connecting with a big diving head butt. DiBiase raises Bigelow’s arm and lets out a big laugh.)
9:30pm - 9:40pm: After the segment I just head to the back and watch the rest of the show. Patterson tells me that he enjoyed the promo and thought I did a good job to introduce the Bigelow/Beefcake feud and to continue my feud with Hogan.
11:45pm - 12:30pm: We get back to the hotel after a dinner at a Italian restaurant. I’m getting pretty anxious to just finish off this feud with Hulk Hogan so I can possibly do a quick angle with Bret Hart. Being the number one heel for the company means that Hart could get some extra cash in his pocket by working a few house shows with me in the big markets. Hopefully I can make this work.
To be continued.
