EVOLVE 1: Ibushi vs. RichardsJan. 16th, 2010 Rahway, NJ Rahway Rec Center 275 E. Milton Avenue Belltime: 8pmPre-show notes: Crowd is packed into the Rahway Center for the debut of Gabe Sapolsky’s new creation, Evolve. Ringside is sold out but there are a few seats at the back not filled. Crowd is estimated at 300-350. Commentary is by Lenny Leonard and Leonard Chikarason. Kyle O’ Reilly (1-0) defeated Bobby Fish (0-1) O’Reilly entered with his trainer, Tony Kozina and Davey Richards who tapped O’Reilly on the back at the entrance before leaving. The match showed what Evolve was all about with both men throwing stiff strikes giving it a whole MMA feel. Reilly hit a Brainbuster to put Fish away in a good opening contest. Kozina entered post match giving O’Reilly a T-shirt and a bottle of water. Lenny Leonard entered the ring and did a post fight interview with O’Reilly. He said he was pleased to be in Evolve and how it was a great place to showcase his skills. He put Fish over which went over well with the crowd. Chuck Taylor defeated Cheech to join the main singles roster. Both men were battling for a spot on the singles roster. The match style changed from the previous with quick paced offence from both men. Taylor drills Cheech with the Omega Driver to join the singles roster. Post fight interview with Chuck Taylor. Taylor complains how he needed to qualify while competitors like Kyle O’Reilly or Ricochet don’t.Ricochet (1-0) defeated Arik Cannon (0-1) This match combined the last two matches together into a hybrid of styles. Ricochet’s high offence style clashed with Cannon’s more slow paced approach. Cannon kept Ricochet grounded until he broke out hitting a 630 Splash for the win. Quite a good match ruined by the lack of time given. Post match Ricochet and Cannon shook hands, Cannon left and Chuck Taylor entered. Taylor challenged Ricochet to a match at Evolve 2 next month, Ricochet promptly accepted.Dark City Fight Club (1-0) defeated Aeroform (0-1) Not as much of a squash as everyone thought but it was still quite one sided. Lyndon’s comedy style doesn’t work with Evolve’s serious persona. Chavis and Davis hit Project Mayhem on Kendrick for the three count. Mercedes Martinez defeated Niya in womens single action. The match lasted little under two minuites. Complete domination from Martinez who came off quite good. A Fisherman Buster but Niya away. Post match interview with Mercedes Martinez. Martinez said she wants to prove that Evolve isn’t just a man’s game. She intends to prove that she is the best female athlete around.Silas Young (1-0) defeated Brad Allen (0-1) A fairly decent match from two lesser known athletes. Big spot on the outside where Allen hits a moonsault from the top rope and Silas counters with a dropkick. It takes both men quite a while to recover but get back in the ring just before the 20 count. Soon after the big spot Silas goes for a headstand moonsault in the corner but misses allowing Allen to win with a F5. Post match Silas walks away from Allen’s handshake. Post match interview with Brad Allen. Allen talks about how his late mother inspired him to be the man he is today. Allen said he was brought up to aim high so he challenged Chris Hero to a match at Evolve 2.Jimmy Jacobs and takes the mic. He thanks those members of the crowd who are supporting him and told the others to just keep on hating. He said if they support him he will die in the ring for them just to get that buzz of crowd support. Kenn Doane cut him off with his entrance.Jimmy Jacobs (1-0) defeated Kenn Doane (0-1) Possibly the worst match on the show but not by much. The pace slowed in the middle and Doane (much to the annoyance of one fan in particular) kept locking Jacobs in a sleeper hold. The action picked up then Jacobs locked Doane in a small package for the win. Intermission. It was announced by Lenny Leonard that Evolve would be returning for EVOLVE 2 on the 20th February. Fans are equally hyped for the TJ Perkins vs. Munenori Sawa encounter and the Dream Match main event. Johnny Gargano (1-0) defeated Chris Dickinson (0-1) This was a decent match that suffered as it followed intermission. Dickinson used his stiff kicks to weaken Gargano but it wasn’t enough to put him away. Gargano won with a Flatliner. Munenori Sawa (1-0) defeated TJ Perkins (0-1) This match further the point about what Evolve is all about. Perkins delivered some stiff strikes but Sawa just shook them off and delivered his own to Sawa. There was also some great chain wrestling in the match which TJ had the advantage over Sawa. They exchange holds before Sawa locks in a Octopus hold to which TJ is forced to submit. Post match both men get a standing ovation. TJ goes to shake his hand but is met but a stiff slap. Sawa then storms off.Team Frightening (1-0) defeated Akuma’s Army (0-1) in six man action. Jigsaw was unable to appear and was subbed by Frightmare who has lots of experience teaming with Hallowicked and some experience with team leader Mike Quackenbush. Everything you would expect from a Chikara multi-man match. Brodie was dominant whenever he was in the ring. Akuma and Icarus picked apart the much smaller Frightmare until he dived to the outside on Lee allowing Quackenbush to enter (under Lucha-libre rules) Quackenbush hits the Quackendriver 3 on Icarus to win for his team. Post match Mike Quackenbush takes the mic. He thanks his team and especially Frightmare who came in last minute subbing for Jigsaw. He puts over the Evolve roster before announcing a four way elimination tag for Evolve 2.Davey Richards (1-0) defeated Kota Ibushi (0-1) In what was billed as a ‘Dream Match main event’ the man now known as the ‘Best in the World’ took on one of Japan’s top junior heavyweights. Richards brought out Kozina and O’Reilly with him while Ibushi brought out someone to stand in his corner. The action varied from Richards’ stiff strikes to Ibushi’s ariel offence. Richards is exactly the man to front this promotion with his stiff strikes, MMA influence and all round greatness in the ring. Ibushi pulled out all the stops to wow the crowd including a Golden Star Press. Ibushi was able to withstand the Shooting Star Press from Richards but was unable to counter the Kimura which followed. Post match both corner men rushed to the ring and handed out t-shirts and water to the competitors. O’Reilly helped Richards to his feet and handed him the mic. Richards put over his opponent, all the guys in the back and most of all Gabe for making this all possible. Richards wished the crowd a safe trip home and hoped he would see them next month for Evolve 2.Post match notes: It was a great opening night for Evolve. It set the foundations for what Evolve will grow into. Some tweaks need to be made mostly the number of matches. Fewer matches would mean more time for the matches itself which would be a rapid improvement on the product.

I see that you didn't change around any results for EVOLVE 1, which is fine because I think the first show was booked quite perfectly. What I'm interested in seeing is if Davey Richards sticks around for future EVOLVE events or if Gabe Sapolsky kicks him out of the company in this diary, as well. I'm also looking forward to reading about TJP and Sawa's second match with one another, which I'm assuming will happen at EVOLVE 2.

Fearless! 1-23-10 (airs 3-5-10) Chicago, Illinois
1) Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw defeated. CIMA & Super Crazy - The show kicks off straight away with CHIKARA’s own Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw taking on the “Icon of Dragon Gate” CIMA and a unique partner choosing in “The Insane Luchadore” Super Crazy. Quackenbush and CIMA have been at war recently over who is the better student of Jorge Rivera with each saying it is them. The match was fast paced as expected and stiff at times when CIMA was in the ring. CIMA seemed to be more interested in attacking Mike Quackenbush on the apron while Jigsaw was the legal man. Super Crazy got a lot of support from the crowd during the match and he seemed to be enjoying the attention. The finish of the match arrived with Quackenbush rolling CIMA up with a lucha pinning attempt and it was enough to give him the three count.
Following the bell, CIMA got straight back up and attacked Quackenbush from behind. CIMA irish whipped Mike of the ropes but Quack ducked the clothesline attempt, turned around and delivered a double super kick with partner, Jigsaw. Quack and Jigsaw left in victory as CIMA slowly got too his feet again. CIMA pushed his partner Super Crazy who was thanking the crowd for the chants he was getting but Crazy fought back and the segment finished with Super Crazy hitting the Crazy Moonsault on CIMA.
The Cameras show Dragon Kid in the back leaning against a wall as he prepares for his toughest match to date. The commentators put over the fact that it’s Dragon Kid’s chance to win the DG USA Open the Freedom Gate Championship as he faces the champion BxB Hulk in the main event.
2) TJ Perkins defeated. Gran Akuma - The second match of the evening saw one third of CHIKARA’s King of Trios 2009, Gran Akuma do battle with the high flying, TJ Perkins who some of you might know as “Puma” The match was fun and paced well, with Akuma delivering some very stiff kicks to the chest of Perkins to the point that it turned a bright red. Several times throughout the match it seemed that Akuma had the match won but Perkins seemingly has the heart of a champion and kicked out of a few Gran Akuma signature moves including a unique lung blower from the Tomb Stone position. The match eventually finished with TJ Perkins locking in the Figure Four Deathlock, Akuma had no choice and had to tap out.
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Brian Kendrick is scheduled to take place next but before the opening bell, Brian Kendrick gets on the microphone and tells Jimmy Jacobs that the two of them share a lot, in that they both wrestle mentally as well as wrestling physically. Kendrick says that to prepare for this match, he didn’t watch tapes of Jacobs, instead he made a few phone calls. Kendrick then announces that his valet tonight will be none other than Lacey who has a lot of history with Jimmy Jacobs.
3) Brian Kendrick (w/ Lacey) defeated. Jimmy Jacobs - Again, a pretty solid match that was probably the shortest of the night in terms of time given. Jimmy Jacobs didn’t let the Lacey involvement in this match effect him to start of with and seemingly had the better of Kendrick for a lot of the match. Kendrick fought back though and eventually called for Sliced Bread #2. Jacobs’ used the momentum to push Kendrick over the ropes, sending him crashing in to the guardrail. This is where things changed as Lacey slid in to the ring and got in Jimmy Jacobs face. Words were exchanged and Lacey then began to kiss Jacobs which he tried to fight off but eventually let the woman get the better of him. Lacey then called for Kendrick with her hand who attacked Jacobs from behind and quickly connected with Sliced Bread #2 to pick up the victory.
Following the bell, Brian Kendrick celebrated with Lacey but Jacobs got on the mic while still hurting on the canvas and said some sexual things about Kendrick’s wife at home. Kendrick replied by saying he could kill Jacobs easily but instead he’ll just crush his heart. Kendrick turned to Lacey and motioned that he was going to kiss her, but instead. Jon Moxley who was now in the ring, charged at her and delivered a clothesline, knocking Lacey down to the canvas. Kendrick laughed as he left with Moxley.
The cameras cut to the back where Davey Richards cuts a promo about losing the FIP Championship to Masaaki Mochizuki in Japan at the end of 2009. Richards talks about how tonight he is going to win back his FIP World Championship.
4 - FIP World Championship) Davey Richards defeated. Masaaki Mochizuki© - Davey Richards delivered on his promise in recapturing the FIP World Championship but it certainly wasn’t easy in what was definitely the hardest hitting and best mat wrestling showcase of the night. Richards and Mochizuki both used many different and unique submissions in an attempt to make each other tap out but it looked like neither was going to. Eventually though, it got too much for the champion as Davey Richards locked in a Kimura with neck scissors for the 3rd time in the match. After withholding the pain for what seemed like several minutes, Masaaki Mochizuki had had enough and tapped out. Richards celebrated with the belt following the bell.
The cameras turn to the back where CHIKARA’s Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw cut a promo about how they proved tonight that they’re better than CIMA, and that their next task in Dragon Gate USA is to teach the “CHIKARA Traitor” Gran Akuma a lesson in respect. Mike then says that people are calling QuackenSaw the best American tag team in Dragon Gate USA but soon enough, they’ll be known as the BEST tag team in Dragon Gate USA.
5) Speed Muscle (Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino) defeated. Shingo & Yamato and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) - The fifth match of the evening was complete chaos from the opening bell as the match was under 3 way dance, elimination rules. The Young Bucks looked strong to begin with, hitting all their usual fast paced high impact spots but they were surprisingly the first team eliminated as the four Japanese workers worked together short term, getting rid of Matt Jackson before hitting all their finishers on Nick Jackson where Masato Yoshino pinned him. The match then continued with Speed Muscle vs. Shingo & Yamato which was given a good amount of time with both teams getting in a lot of offence and near finishes. The match eventually ended with Naruki Doi locking in a Fuji Armbar on Shingo who with his partner out cold on the outside of the ring had no choice but to tap out.
The main event is scheduled up next as the Champion, BxB Hulk makes his usual entrance where he dances in ring with full back up dancers. Bit odd, but the crowd are in to it.
Main Event - DG USA Open the Freedom Gate Championship) BxB Hulk© defeated. Dragon Kid. - Despite BxB Hulk being a pretty boy, pop dancer, he can certainly hold his own in the ring and is a credible Champion for Dragon Gate USA. The match wasn’t the longest of the night but was certainly entertaining as both men went all out in order to win the match. Dragon Kid, who is probably the smallest man on the roster, used his speed to his advantage and connected plenty of moves that made the crowd gasp as well as stand an applaud. The finish eventually arrived with Dragon Kid hitting the Ultra Hurricarana only for the champion to kick out. The champion, then got to his feet slowly as Dragon Kid attempted another but countered it and slammed Kid down hard with a Powerbomb. Hulk quickly dragged Dragon Kid to his feet and connected with the E.V.O a Pumphandle Sitout Side Powerslam, and he followed it up with the Shooting Star Press that he calls the BxB Star Press. This was enough to get the champion the three count and he retained the Open the Freedom Gate Championship.
Following the bell, the champion has little time to celebrate as Davey Richards, Yamato, Shingo and Gran Akuma hit the ring and attack both men who just competed. Dragon Kid is taken care off easily and the assault turns in to a 4 on 1 attack on BxB Hulk. Suddenly, the crowd pop as Mike Quackenbush, Jigsaw, Fright mare & Hallowicked from CHIKARA run down to the ring to make the save. CHIKARA clears the ring as the show comes to an end.
