So with the recent death of Human Torch I've been thinking about which superhero deaths that I thought were actually done well and I was wondering what everyone else's favorites were.
For me it's a tough choice but I have to go with Jason Todd because it was such a crazy and violent death for the time that comic came out. I loved how they didn't bring him back for so long, and how much his character changed from being nice as Robin to being this crazy guy who wants to kill both Batman and Joker. How it really changed Batman during that time period and him becoming really depressed, and probably one of the biggest changes, how it changed the Joker from being kind of a silly character to this much more sinister and violent one we have today.

I've only been reading comics consistently for about a year and a half now so the first big one that happened while I was reading that stuck with me was Nightcrawler. I thought it was done perfectly. Hope is the supposed messiah of the mutants, but no one knows that for sure, yet Cyclops has faith that Hope will save them all. And who knows better about faith than Nightcrawler? He died an honorable death and the scene where his chest is impaled by Bastion's arm is so calm and eerie, and drawn greatly. Plus, it gave us the story of Wolverine having to deal with it, which is nice to see that side of him.
Great topic.

he isnt a super hero but I liked it in spider-man reign when sandman met his daughter when she died and he changed sides and gave spidey the detanator installed in all the viallains destroying the city was such a hopeless given up classic villain ending I almost felt like Sandman should have had a longer run as a cool villain dumb powers are not that was epically ballsy

Jason Todd is by far the best death in comics. LOL, it just sounds funny.

Hulk the End is amazing. I enjoyed Jason Todd as well. Oddly, I had no idea Nightcrawler was even dead. Hmmm.
I also liked the death of Captain Mar-Vell.

Captain Marvel in Kingdom Come, freed from Luthor's brainwashing, Marvel flew into the air, throws Superman to the group and take his place in stopping the nuke.

Blue Beetle! But Cap's death shook the comic world until the whole trapped-in-time deal.

I had totally forgotten about Captain Mar-vell. Easily the best because it was so different. Heroes usually die heroically in battle, but Mar-vell didn't. He died fighting an enemy that no one has ever beaten.

Ryan Reynolds killing Hal Jordan Ryan Reynolds was perfect as Hal Jordan IMO. Reynolds is less the issue than the damn suit.

true, maybe I'm being a little tough on the guy. I think the suit was such an issue for me like everyone else that I had to re direct some of that anger. Sorry Ryan, good maybe the next movie will do better.

nope, i think ryan reynolds was an absolutely terrible choice for green lantern. anyways, hulk - the end gets my pick for best superhero death. captain marvel gets a nod solely for the fact that he had the first marvel graphic novel and it was based on his death...and not in a glorious battle, but of cancer. beautiful story and who can forget this image:

My favorite is Ultimate Spider-man's. It was just the perfect way for him to go out...nothing else would have worked quite like that situation did. Thinking he finally defeated the Goblin and then dying satisfied in Aunt May and MJ's arms was priceless.
