Was at WrestleReunion in Los Angeles today. Got a few tidbits regarding the Mattel figures.
-Tatanka said he will be getting a Legends figure.
-There will be two other WWE All-Star 2 Packs released aside from Savage vs. Morrison. These figures will likely be available at K-Mart and Wal-Mart.
-Mattel is trying to figure out a strategy regarding the Legends two packs due to the high volume of series 1 still at TRU.
-Some figures may end up discounted at stores like Ross and Marshalls.
-Roddy Piper said Bob Orton's figure in the Legends 2 pack looks like a quaker.
That's about it, wish there was more news.

The Legends 2-packs are quite an issue. It has become very frightening. I really want the Von Erichs and I know a lot of people want the Rockers but my TRU has 2 pegs full and this is even after a 50% off sale. I am sure others do as well. Obviously they shipped too many sets. Hopefully they can come up with a solution. I would hate to see it canceled after only one series. There is so much potential for this line.

I know it's extremely unlikely but I would love for one of the other two All-Star sets to be Cena vs. Hogan

The 2-packs cost too damn much for mass retail. That's just the reality of it.

Dump them in a landfill and don't make another whole set that rehashes Jakks' biggest shelfwarmers. Problem solved.

My guess one the other two packs are:
Cena/Rock (almost a certainty) Warrior/Orton (not likely, but possible)
I can pretty much guarantee there won't be any wrestlers that don't already have figures in the set though.

thanks for the info
i think part of the problem with 2-packs and legends in general not selling huge amounts is mattel is making too many old school guys. sure, include old school guys, but they need to mix in more modern classics too. they need to include a mix of eras to appeal to the broadest range of people. personally i'm a monday night wars era fan, especially WCW, so legends from that era is my main area of interest. mattel has barely made any legends that interest me to be honest.

Thanks for the info. Tatanka would be a nice addition to the Legends line.

Price isn't the problem, character selection is. I'm in Toronto and the TRUs near my place all have large amounts of the Piper/Orton, Volkoff/Sheik and Bushwhackers still available. Who the hell really wants those figures? Piper and Orton to a point and same with Volkoff/Sheik....they should have had 5-6 choices and short pack the Bushwhackers (or not make them at all).
Whomever approved this series at Mattel needs a thorough beating. They could have made the Legends 2 pack based on great 80s matches as well as tag teams. I'd take a Valentine and Beefcake or British Bulldogs 2 pack over any of the three in the first series ALL DAY LONG.
Horrible character selection made series 1 garbage...nothing else.

I really don't think it had anything to do with character selection, but rather the volume of the figures produced. When Jakks had the license and did the TRU 2-Packs my store (which TRU considers a High volume store) Would normally get 3 cases of the 2-Packs and that would be it. With Mattel's Legends 2-Packs Series 1 the store had gotten at least 9 cases. So that was 3 times as many cases than Jakks and they are now down to about 2 cases remaining. I really think they just over produced the wave.

-Tatanka said he will be getting a Legends figure. AWESOME! I hope he's in his true debut attire (white tights)
-There will be two other WWE All-Star 2 Packs released aside from Savage vs. Morrison. These figures will likely be available at K-Mart and Wal-Mart. I'm gonna guess Cena/Rock & maybe HHH/Austin
-Mattel is trying to figure out a strategy regarding the Legends two packs due to the high volume of series 1 still at TRU. Simple...2 sets per wave, and less cases per store. The biggest problem is over-distribution. In addition to character selection. Sheik had a Legends figure already, and Volkoff is not popular enough. Bushwackers have pretty much fallen off the nostalgia radar except to hardcore WWE fans, Piper & Orton is the best pack anyway, but the Piper doesn't really look like him, and Bob Orton again isn't "popular" enough. Plus the price is too high...I know "1 Legend is $15, 2 Pack is $30" but that's a bad strategy...the point of a 2 pack should be to get 2 figures in 1 for a little less than what you'd pay for 2 separate. If the 2 packs were $26.99 they would have at least got more attention originally. The Rockers & the Von Erichs will sell VERY well. I hope those see the light of day.
-Some figures may end up discounted at stores like Ross and Marshalls. Probably Flex Force, Elite 3 Cody Rhodes & Best of 2010
-Roddy Piper said Bob Orton's figure in the Legends 2 pack looks like a quaker. That's hilarious. It's the cowboy hat...it's too tall. However I really like that pack overall, it's the only 2 pack I bought.

At my local Toys R Us there is a crap load of Series 1 Elite Legends 2 Packs. I think they should keep the line but maybe lower the price a bit. I mean its still $22 and it used to be $30. But the people aren't going to buy them it seems. Thanks for the other news to.

As others have said it would appear that they have made too many of the legends two pack. Probably should have released The Rockers and Von Erichs in the first series.

Lets not kid ourselves, the original strategy for the two packs is flawed due to various reasons including:
Production - too many sets produced
Solution: produce less product
Distribution - not enough outlets for the amount of figures produced.
Solution: less cases sent to TRU or nix the exclusivity agreement
Character Selection - the character selection for Series 1 is poor. Lets face it, there were more attractive and popular options for Series 1. Also, sorry collectors, the masses are not interested in characters prior to the mid to late 80's.
Solution: Limit production of characters prior to the late 1980's unless it involves extremely popular characters like Hogan, Savage, Steamboat, Andre, etc. Save characters such as the von erichs for online exclusives via mattycollector.com.
Characters per series - 3 sets per series are too many at the current price point.
Solution: 2 sets per series (4 characters total)
Price - in an economic recession the price is too high. there is no value by purchasing two figures together, other than getting them in one package. They may as well be US$14.99 single figures.
Solution: Decrease the price to US$26.99 or US$27.99, even Jakks gave you a discount on the two pack sets. For example, CS were US$12.99-14.99(?) and CSTT were US$19.99-21.99.

As others have said it would appear that they have made too many of the legends two pack. Probably should have released The Rockers and Von Erichs in the first series. No Series 1 should have been the Bushwackers, Rockers and The Road Warriors, Demolition or LOD. Or The Rockers and Bushwackers
