Back in the day wrestling was different. There were hip tosses, arm drags, suplexes. With these no POA you could wrestle with them full speed and do those moves. My favorite matches were Santana VS Valentine. Both guys were posed great to do those moves on each other. You could even set Santana up to do russian leg sweeps. That was his finisher.JYD had a rounded back somewhat and so when Savage or someone would do a flying cross body he could reverse it and do a backwards roll for the pin. I didn't have heels VS Faces.Every body could fight anyone else to get title shots. Jakks figures are nic to look at and can pose with different holds BUT the acton was with the LJN. I was lucky as I was just young enough to get a Hogan(LJN) VS Flair(OSFT something like that) match. That was every kids dream match.

Here is a picture of the ad for the LJN 1989 figures. I don't remember which magazine it is from. The small print says the figures will be shipped between August-October. nice post! I haven't seen that pic since I was a youngster. What is up with Andre's boots though? Where did they get the idea for those?

Also, it looks like Andre has the same pose as the Ken Patera fig.

BAD ASS! THIS IS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT!!! This is the kind of the same "order Drawing picture form" I was send with Demolition Smash. The drawing picture of Smash had him posed just like Demolition Ax but with smash face paint and long hair. I would give my left nut for that order form... Man sweet stuff here JASON1980s +1 for you brother. -Rude look alot like Ricky Steamboat with a stash back in his wcw days. -Andre would have been sweet like this pose.. he does look a little to slim but taller -Bossman looks the same -Warrior is the same.. I like him in Orange the way it was released..it made him look like he did in WM6 were he beat hogan. I guess they really saved there asses with "Illustrations may vary slightly from actual product" Man I wish I could go back in time and get that drawing order form...man..I need to get a hold of Doc Brown and Marty and take a ride in the delorean. great stuff brother...keep the LJNs alive I distinctly remember the drawing of Smash as well. I think they even had a mustashe on him, but I may be just imagining what I hoped would come true since they were my favorite tag team. I looked everywhere but couldn't find that order form. I did however find a couple of variations of what was already posted and one that hasn't been posted yet, at least not on this thread . I will try to add them. This is my first post so I'm not sure how the attachment will turn out.

Notice that Barbarian and Bad News aren't listed anymore, but Smash still is.

Here's one with the actual pictures, but instead of Stud there's a Hogan figure listed. Enjoy! I used to stare at these photos and drawings for hours when I was a kid. Anyone else?

Steve-you posted some great clippings. The one featuring 1988 figures is one I've never seen before. The first 1989 posting with Smash, Barbarian and Brown I've seen a latter variation (never the one with Smash etc...) but the 1988 I've never seen anything like that.
Do the clippings have any month/year dates for the magazines? Also the first ad featuring the names of unreleased figures, looks like the other page has a ring w/ cage. Could you post that please...

This is the same thing I got inthe mail when I was about 13, with a drawing of both Ax and Smash. they were both posed the same way but smash had longer hair.. nice work brother. +1 for you... "I distinctly remember the drawing of Smash as well. I think they even had a mustashe on him, but I may be just imagining what I hoped would come true since they were my favorite tag team" No way brother.. I saw the same dang thing.. it is real.. like everyone always saids on here.. it will turn up one day on this board. I just can't wait... thanks again for the post... this really take me back when I was a kid or teen... with nothing in the world to worry about.. living at home with mom and dad...blowing my money and stuff like this... now I am 35...married, 2 kids, a house, 2 cars, and every wrestling figure i have... all in boxes ~boo who~

I think LJN photos will still be coming out years later to be found, like the bendies of Bruno, Funk, Santana and Muraco that weren't produced or the drawing with the four 1988 figures recently posted. I think Hasbro photos of prototypes have been exhausted because maybe more people saved the magazine clippings or catalogs but LJN maybe not so much because wrestling figure collecting was still fairly new. I would love to see copies of the LJN catalogs. I know someone posted 1986 with the bendies on motorcycles but I think bendies was about all that was posted and maybe the Mean Gene prototype.

I wonder why the final four bendies were never produced. Maybe the line wasn't selling well.
I also wonder, as so many people do, why Smash never even made it to the 1989 series for sale. He had been with wwf long before Bossman or Warlord and they could have produced Smash and made the complete team rather than a Warlord without team partner.

Jason,
I don't see any dates on the catalog pages and the cover to the magazine has been torn off. The ring you are seeing on the second page is just a picture of the nintendo wrestlemania hand held game. You are seeing andre standing by some ring ropes, and it also has hogan on there as well. Nothing to do with figures though, so I'll assume that you don't want to see it anymore. But if you still want to check it out I can scan it in for you, just let me know.
Romafan, I'm glad you liked my posts so much. I have to say there were many pictures that have been posted on this site over the last couple years that have blown my mind. The latest would have to have been that prototype mean gene standing in the ring....I'll keep looking for that drawing of smash too.

If it won't take too much of your time I'd like if you could post the picture. After a closer look I could tell it was Andre. I think someone posted in the wwf goodies thread the actual nintendo game and it has a reverse photo of Andre making him look like the LJN toy with reverse strap.
The list of LJN figures that included Haiti Kid is something else we haven't seen on the board but like the drawing of Smash we just never know when it will be found.
The Mean Gene is soooo different from the actual product it's incredible. Most prototypes are much like the actual product, like Adrian Adonis or Hillbilly Jim but just a few differences between what was originally projected to the actual produced figure.

I wonder about the prototype series 89 figures that wrestling ring had. Did LJN send proto photos to potential companies or what? because I think if wrestling ring hadn't posted the photos in magazines we would've never even seen the prototypes like Rude in gree tights or King Haku.
