Its that time of year, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's interest and caring for wrestling peaks at this time of year. So, I was watching alot of 2000/01 PPV's and stuff and just getting into the wrestling mood, when I thought of this thread; things that were to happen at Mania but never did for some reason or another, and thought it'd be fun, so here's the one's I know of, please add more and discuss
- WM15 was to be Mankind/Rock/Austin instead of just Rock/Austin
- I was always under the impression that it was to be Big Show/Austin at WM16 in a sort of homage to Andre/Hogan, however I have read recently that it was being built to originally be Rock/Austin, HBK/HHH and Taker/Show as the big 3 Main Events, anyone care to shine a light on that one?
- WM17 was to finish with Austin turing heel, and then the lights would go out and Sting was set to appear in the rafters, letting the Rock quietly leave
- WM13 was to be HBK/Bret one-on-one again in a Ladder match but HBK pulled out, or 'lost his smile'
- WM14 was originally to be Bret/Austin for the Title before the whole MSJ
Yea, thats all I got, I know theres much more, so yea, please post what you know, I'm interested to see what might have happened

Totally didn't know about any of these, the Sting/Austin moment would have been one of the most historic in WrestleMania history.

I thought Wrestlemania 2000 was meant to be Triple H vs Stone Cold vs The Rock vs Undertaker?
Never heard of that Sting scenario for Wrestlemania X-Seven though?

mr perfect vs kurt angle wm18
hulk hogan vs john cena wm25 and vince tried to get a austin/hogan match at wm25 and wm18
batista/cena at wm25 and rock/cena wm26
rey/umaga at wm24 and hhh/batista/orton/cena at wm24

Man, looks like we've missed out on a hell of a lot of great matches over the years due to injury or whatever. I know it was originally going to be Jericho instead of Foley at WM 2000

Razor/Goldust at WrestleMania 12 is one I haven't seen mentioned. Razor failed a drug test and was replaced by Roddy Piper.
Smaller ones like Bam Bam/Kamala at WrestleMania 9 and Bulldog/Berzerker at WrestleMania 8 are more well known, too.

Not sure where you got Taker from because he was hurt about 6 months before Maina and I've never heard any rumors where he was going to be involved w/ it. 3) WM13 was suppose to be Bret vs Shawn, but never heard it was suppose to be a ladder match. I know in Bret's book that before he went to WCW, Vince suggested if he stayed, that him and Shawn would have a ladder match and Bret would cut off Shawn's hair. Not sure about the ladder match at WM though. |

I'm pretty sure it was Shawn Michaels who told Vince that the WrestleMania main event should always be one on one, I think that was in Foley's book. Gotcha. I've always heard that it was going to be Austin vs Show and then HHH, Rock, and Austin. Would have been cool to have seen Taker added to the match had him and Austin been around. I believe that Sting was thought to be showing up at WM18. During WM17, Vince had just begun talking w/ Sting about coming to the WWE so I believe that there was no real chance for Sting to show up there. But at WM18, Sting was aparently close to signing w/ the WWE, and Vince wanted him to face Angle. Sting didn't sign on, and Angle was thrown into a quick match w/ Kane. |

Ted Dibase was supposed to win the title at WM 4 originally
Ric Flar vs Hogan was the plan for WM 8, they even had a press conference confirming that Hogan was the number one contender for Flair, but was later changed to a double main event of Sid vs Hogan and Flair vs Savage. Apparently, Hogan vs Flair was the main event on the house shows and the matches weren't that good and WWE thought Flair would not draw. WCW made a great decision when Hogan came to them in July 1996 as they did the Hogan vs Flair match right away at Bash at the Beach and at that time beat the record for most PPV buys. (WWE really messed this one up, image looking back now to WM8 Hogan/Flair) The whole card was re-done for WM 8.
Bret Hart vs Lex Luger at WM 10 was supposed to be the main event. Bret was facing Owen as planned in the opener but Luger was supposed to defeat Yokozuna and face Bret Hart in the main event but Luger apparently let the word out before hand that he is going to beat Yokozuna at Mania and face Bret Hart so WWE decided to change it at the last minute; hence the fact that we got Bret Hart/Yokozuna twice in a row.
Bret Hart vs HBK was supposed to happen at WM 13 in a rematch from the previous year with Bret winning, but then HBK lost his smile and needed knee surgery (appearantly which was not that serious and he could have held it off)
Austin vs Hogan at WM 18 and WM 19. They could not agree to a finish and Austin didn't really want to wrestle Hogan. Hogan says he was willing to job to Austin. Hence, we got Rock/Hogan and Hall/Austin at WM 18. Vince tried again for the match at WM19 but the same thing happened as Austin just did not want anything to do with Hogan. Thats why we got Rock/Austin and Hogan/Vince otherwise it would have been Hogan/Austin and Rock/Goldberg at WM 19. Goldberg was already signed before Wrestlemania 19 but debuted the day after to feud with Rock for Backlash. Had the Austin/Hogan gone through then Goldberg would have debuted at No Way Out a month before Wrestlemania to feud with Rock.
Foley vs Randy Orton in a hardcore match at WM 20 was planned but was changed to Evolution vs the Rock and Sock when the Rock agreed for the match just a couple of weeks prior to Wrestlemania. (This should have been the time for HBK vs the Rock since HBK was just thrown into the triple threat match which really should have been Benoit/Triple H, but i have heard stories where the Rock didn't want to wrestle HBK since HBK used to be a DICK to him when he started with the company in 1996)
Bret Hart vs HBK at Wrestlemania 22 but at that time Hart didn't want anything to do with HBK. Hence we got Vince vs HBK.
Triple H vs John Cena at WM 23 in a rematch from the previous year but Triple H got hurt and missed Wrestlemania hence we got HBK vs Cena.
Hogan vs John Cena at WM 25 was planned but Hogan had just got back surgery and could not do the match. Hence, John Cena was just thrown into the Edge/Show feud and triple threat match at WM 23.

I've never heard that Sting rumor before. It sounds like bologna. They built up Wrestlemania 8 towards Flair vs. Hogan but switched to Savage vs. Flair and Hogan vs. Sid instead.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Shawn Michaels was talked about happening at 22.
The WCW guys were supposed to do a run-in on the Vince/Shane match at 17, but Shawn Stasiak spilled the beans on it in an interview that week, so Vince killed that idea.
