It is clear that one day soon they are going to have The Rock vs John Cena. The wait to do it at Wrestlemania 28 is too far down the line now, so the most likely place would be Summerslam.
But, this Match is too big for Summerslam. This would be without doubt one of the biggest money making Matches in history. They need to take advantage of that.
Therefore, they should do something never done before, and have solely a Rock vs John Cena PPV, and hype it like a Boxing PPV. A one off massive PPV billed as The Rock vs John Cena on PPV. They could do it in a big Arena of around 60,000 that would definately sell out. Do the big Press Conference, it would attract a ton of media around it. Show the two arriving at the Arena, keep showing them getting ready in the changing rooms. It would be massive, and would provide one of the most real and best atmospheres since Rock vs Hogan. You could still have an Under-card on the PPV too.
It would probably out do Wrestlemania on buy rates, and even then if they wanted to they could still do Rock vs Cena II at Summerslam.

The Rock vs Cena Undertaker vs whoever for the 20-0 streak?
I already like that Wrestlemania better.

Dan, how old are you? I'm 28 and have been watching since ManiaV. I LOVE your idea and am ashamed at myself for not coming up with it my self. It's sick!! If Vince ever did this it would be amazing. Groundbreaking. Def way too big a match for Summerslam. Hype it like a UFC or a Boxing PPV. WWE could air a half our show on a Tuesday or a Wednesday following The Rock and Cena training and preparing for the match. It would be great. Def have an undercard. Maybe 4 other matches. Have it in Vegas. It would have such a "real" feeling. People from Hollywood would be there. HipHop. People from everywhere would be intro this.
"The match you thought would never happen. The Rock vs John Cena, live on PPV"

They could have the Posters on Billboards everywhere, the hype from the Media would be unreal. All the Pre-Match Build up could be documented, like you said the Training, the Press Conference/Weigh in, show them arriving at the Arena on the night etc, have there families ringside. They could still do the Under-card, possibly a big 8 Man Tag Match pitting the World Champions at the time or something, but nothing too much. The money, hype and buy-rates they would generate from having The Rock vs John Cena on PPV would be huge on a World-Wide Scale.

I don't know, its a great idea, awesome, but I think it would be best to have the match at WM next year. I do agree that it is a long way away, but that could be used for build, if done right we could have an awesome build to it.

That match alone and a crappy undercard wouldnt sell out a 60k seat arena. Wrestlemania is the biggest event of the year with (what they consider) a packed card and it hasnt been a sell out in years. The sad fact is, wrestling doesnt draw like it use to and you can bring anyone back that you want to and have past vs present matches and its still not going to draw the big numbers like the old days. Simple proof will be ratings for Raws that Rock is on. Everyone knew Rock was going to be on Raw and Ill be surprised if the rating even goes over 4.0....If it does it wont be by much and thats a very small number compared to what WWE with The Rock use to pull.

I think you're overestimating The Rock's ability to draw by a considerable amount here

I somewhat like your idea but I feel like, Mania would be the right place for it to happen.

I like the idea, I've always felt that there was potential for Vince to do a boxing style sort of build-up to a match/event. My only real convern is that there would have to be a fairly decent undercard to draw such a huge crowd with top names, just for PPV buyrate, ticket sales and just in case the main event turned out to suck, but I think there's something in the idea if done correctly.

I don't understand why they waited so long to do this feud. You could have easily started this build up last summer/ fall with it ultimately culminating at Wrestlemania 27. The only thing I can think of is if Rock's schedule just didn't allow it.
I do agree there will definitely be a match, but if they would've done this at Mania it would've added that much more nostalgia to it.

I understand your approach, but this is a Wrestlemania match, through and through. To do it any other time just wouldn't feel right.
It's easy to set up, really. Cena/Rock have some sort of confrontation at this year's Wrestlemania that teases the match, Rock leaves, returns briefly in the fall to tease the match again.
I know a lot of people don't want to wait a year to see this happen, but that is the way to go.

I'd say the most logical time to have the match is when the Rock returns again.... in another 7 years so WM 34?

I'm under the assumption that they will never have a match. And I'm fine with that, as long as Rock keeps showing up, making fun and gets his hands on Cena.
Does anyone want to see the Rock lose to Cena? I don't.
