So, I was wandering Toys R Us in the Bronx the other day and saw this. Someone has amazing skills! A Jakks figure, don't know which one, but with a black hand and AWESOME paint work on the legs. Not only that, but he included the chains and towel from a real Elite Kane. Then I went to Target one level higher and saw this masterwork. It is a basic Dolph, in an elite package- for Kane. To rectify this, a little collage work was done. To cut out the name and face of Mr Ziggler and paste them to the front wasn't enough- No they had to blacken out the rest of Kane's picture and the entire back picture! Amazing. They also had repacked a John Morrison Basic figure in a John Morrison Elite Box, but they had done the same blacking out of the picture on the back of the package. Just thought I'd share and brighten up all of your days with a little lameness and theft.

This is ing disgusting, somebody needs to report this to Mattel so they can consider changing elite packaging, it's happening far too much, never seen so much theft in one toy line in my life!

Wrong, this is great! If they go to that much effort then they deserve the damn thing. Besides, I couldn't live without these posts where you people cry and get all bent out of shape over this. Its hilarious. Nothing is going to change.

LOL, some of you guys really need to relax over TOYS. Toys, you realize this is what you're losing your mind over? Clamoring for Mattel to change the entire way they package a figure line just because somebody steals a 15.00 TOY.
Theft is theft, nothing is ever going to change, if people want to steal something, they'll find a way. Get over it.

I really don't see why Mattel should do something to fix a problem that stores are allowing to happen. If Mattel was using cheap, paper thin boxing that someone could rip through at the store to steal the figure, fine. But these people are buying the items, switching everything at their leisure, and stores are gladly taking everything back.
If this was a serious problem that stores actually cared about, then perhaps some effort would be made to combat it. If your employees working the return counter have 0 knowledge of the products they're taking back, then this stuff will continue to happen.
On top of that, I honestly believe some of these crazy switches are done just for kicks by people who visit this site. Some of the switches are clearly simple enough where you know the person just selfishly wanted that particular version of a figure. Jakks Dibiase for EG Dibiase, Basic Ziggler/Kane for Elite Ziggler/Kane, etc. But when you have the type of work we're seeing here, it just screams of someone trying to be funny for the hell of it.
Anyways, all of this stuff sucks, but it is what it is. I don't get overly upset about it. However, I do feel great sympathy for any (grand)parent who tries to buy something nice for their kid while at the store, and unknowingly picks up a waste of money like these.

Funny thing is if it was going for singles price, I'd totally buy that Ziggler. I've wanted it for a while but I don't need another useless big head Morrison.

wow unbelievable that is crazy! Ive never seen this much worse! What sucks is that I have a good friend who works in TRU he tells me it happens all the time, but what sucks that he's doesnt get to get to work in returns area. If he did, he would know exactly what to do, oh well.

Some stores have a zero questions policy where the only thing they can ask is if something is wrong with the item.

I really wonder what would happen if someone returned an item like this (whether they were the guilty party or not), and made it a point to let the store know they were returning it because it was a switched figure. Would the store then make it a point to reject the figure, or would they still take it back?

WOW! I don't know how they let them do this. I also don't know how they do it. Every time I open a box, it looks like a disaster.

Oh, these boxes looked like hell. And it's obvious that the figure didn't fit. I can understand a "zero questions" policy when it comes to returns, but that doesn't mean to have to put a beat up piece of merchandise back on the shelf.

Honestly, it doesn't really bother me. I find it amusing. And considering some of the shady business practices of chains like KMart and especially Walmart, I have a hard time finding sympathy for them. They're hardly losing money on these things. I've never done it myself, but wouldn't stop someone else.
