While we are on the subject of the macho man, i work at a screen print shop and I made these custom Macho man shirts. I put a few on Ebay and No-one bought one..I was very surprised.
front
old school WWF logo on back (I thought that was a nice touch)
I like your fix-up but I'm curious about a few things:
1. Why didn't you prefer the white tape showing above Savage's knee pads? A number of guys sported it like Trips and Dusty Rhodes - just wondering:
2. Did you just paint a pair of those smaller knee pads yellow or did yellow pads like that get released with a figure I probably missed?
3. Was it hard changing the upper legs? Boil & Pop or blow-dryer works like normal? Never tried removing the thigh on these figs, looks like it would take some effort.

1. I don't really dislike the tape showing. I just think Mattel put way too much. It goes too far up IMO. If you watch video or look at pics, It wasn't anywhere near that high. I'm actually thinking of repainting some, just not as high up on his thigh. just enough to know its there. 2. I painted the medium sized pads. I used fusion spray paint. (I'm a big fan of the stuff, used it on my custom Hogan's trunks) It bonds to plastic and drys perfect. Seriously, If anyone that works for Krylon reads this...Sponser me, or put me in your commercials. thanks. ;D 3. the upper legs are pretty easy to change as long as you boil them and soften them up. I'd say they are just as easy as changing boots out.
Here's the best picture I could find to back up my too much leg tape argument. By no means am I trying to be a jerk here. I just think the X- large pads look terrible and then when you put smaller pads your left with the leg tape that is a bit extreme. I wish macho man and trips had the same damn skin tone so I could just switch their legs out. That'd be a perfect solution.
P.S. I also wish Mattel could make a figure of Elizabeth using this look! That'd be so rad.

Seeing your latest pics have brought me to several conclusions.
First off, I really need to work on my Legends collection. Yours is coming along nicely! I'm very jealous.
That Flair is a simple, yet effective custom/fix-up, is it not? That Funk body was tailor-made for Flair. I like it so much, I've used it to make not only the red attire Flair, but blue and yellow as well.
The Dusty fix up is awesome! I too prefer option B.
Lastly, you've convinced me to get off my lazy butt and fix up a lot of figs that I've been meaning to, and a lot of customs that have lingered in the halfway stage. Thanks for that!

Thank you so much for the nice compliments on my collection. It's getting close to where I want it.
Yes the Flair fix up is so perfect. I'm really wanting to get the Internet exclusive flair with the black robe and make a black trunks and pads, red boots flair. (that's my dream figure at the moment) My girlfriend told me the other day not to buy it yet because my birthday is coming up soon. I think we both know what that means.
I'm glad my little collection inspired you. I have alot of fun with it and enjoy it very much. Please feel free to post pics of your collection here. I'd love to see them (especially the blue and yellow Flair)

I have the IE Exclusive Flair, but I left it moc. I really wanted the same type Flair you're speaking of, so I ordered a black robe from Ralph's. Looks as good, if not better, than the IE one. Now all I gotta do is grab an extra loose SCSA to make the actual fig with! I've actually gone pretty well nuts with custom Mattel Flairs. Along with the ones I mentioned before, I also made a Retirement Match Flair using Hacksaw's body and an R3 head. I really do need to post my stuff on here (gotta get a photobucket account and a descent camera first).
