First and foremost I hope this is an allowable post as Im hoping it starts a bit of discussion of clothing lines and people starting their own business or just support/insight in general, but if not I apologize. I've long wanted to start some form of clothing line all the way back to when I was in high school. I am not a few years removed and finally decided to give it a go. It is one of my dreams to really have a successful operation. Along with myself and the help of my girlfriend and fellow board member Parchandri I am launching my line, Frozen Soda. The jist of the line is infusing the late 80s and 90s in which we grew up along with a love of style and junk food to create a highly memorable and fashionable line for the world to enjoy. I am starting out with a special limited demo release before I dive into a full release entitled: "Uncle Shredder". The background on the shirt is that Uncle Phil who also voiced The Shredder on the original TMNT cartoon series is upset that no one acknowledges him as the true Shredder so he is slicing and dicing the worlds soda and junk food supply to gain the worlds attention once and for all. Here is a preview: ( I have not yet made the announcement of the shirt only hinted at it online and to people locally so I will have a full mock-up showing soon ) I am going to be printing all shirts on American Apparel and every order for the demo will come with a special limited edition custom made pin / other goodies. I are in the process of building a completely optimized website/blog/store front but in the meantime I will be utilizing Big Cartel as our online store and as soon as the demo is released also starting my own LLC for Frozen Soda prior to the release of the first full-line. I would love to really have your insight on what I am embarking upon and also would not be opposed to you checking out Frozen Sodas Facebook page and hitting it up with a like as I really want to get people interested and think a lot of you would really love the ideas and line as it comes out: facebook.com/FrozenSodaAlso have any of you ever started your own businesses? Im finding the hardest thing is start-up costs especially in the clothing world because everything is front end cost. Thanks for reading! ;D -David

Good luck with this, I hope it brings you the success that you are searching for. Clothing is definitely a hard market, BUT with the right designs and style, you can definitely reach the demographics you're hoping for (take a look at Tapout, Affliction, Ed Hardy, etc). It is very hard to build start-up capital for a business.
I've owned and operated my own business for the past 3 years and only just recently have I actually turned a big enough profit to be considered successful (in my own mind) rather than breaking even.

Good luck is all I can say broski, I've never started a company or anything but I'd imagine it's hard as hell!
If your shirts are "fat-person friendly" I'll buy a couple to support you. I'll let my friends know to.

Yes. Everyone should support Frozen Soda! Soda is not cool unless it's Frozen Soda!

Haha! I like the name.
Hate to sound like a downer, but maybe you should look in to getting clearance from the companies or actors (TMNT, James Avery, etc. ) before you start a run of the shirts.
I'd hate to see you get a cease & desist order from a court after you spent countless hours & time into producing said shirts.
But I wish you the very best of luck & lots of success in this venture! Have fun!

Cool stuff! American Apparel makes fantastic shirts, so that was a good choice.
You can do a lot with parody as long as you're careful. Clothing sites like Fangamer and Splitreason tend to push it a bit but still get away with doing "inspired by" designs without getting into legal trouble. Hopefully you'll be fine with any designs you chose to make. Good luck!

If there's one thing I can tell you, you're in for a LOT of hard work. Over the past couple years I've seen the operations of a successful clothing line through a person named Johnny Earle, (Johnny Cupcakes) whom I was introduced to around 2006, and stay in contact with quite often. Talk about bustin' your ass.
Make sure this is something you're ready for. Be ready for both the ups and downs (especially the downs when starting) and a lot of disappointment in order to later succeed. Take risks, and be sure you're all in...or you're in for a very harsh reality in the long run.

The shirts that are going to be produced by Frozen Soda are nothing like those brands. Horrible or not, they sell and make money because they are targeting their key demographic... 18-35 year old MMA fans. I was just referring to those brands because they are brands that are not for everyone and despite Frozen Soda shirts not being my style, there will be people that enjoy them, just like the brands I mentioned.

Wow! Thanks for the support and insight guys! It means a lot. I cant wait to show you the full demo release. Also, DWright that is amazing you know Johnny Cupcakes! His story is so unique and his hard work is nothing short of amazing. I wish I had contact with that man. I would love to pick his brain on so many things so you are lucky! He seems like a really rad guy. Im prepared for the downs of the business especially in the beginning. My goal is to make it a business I can really take pride in while people really cling on and it makes their days brighter and hopefully I can push towards profitability someday with all of that in mind. I've noticed that the market is saturated with clothing lines that you can tell the owner and everyones involved sole purpose is to make money not because they love what they are doing. I hope my passion for what Im doing shines through my brand.
