You might have seen my previous Legends reviews, but this one’s special. Oh it’s still a Legend alright, but it’s one that Mattel has not yet produced. And as much as I’m not a fan of this wrestler, there’s no denying that the absence of “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan in all our Legends collections feels like a HUGE void. He’s a “must have” for the Legends line.
So that’s where The1Dean70© comes in. He’s got mad-customizing skills that, until now, I’ve only admired from afar – however he contacted me about getting a custom Mattel Hulk Hogan and we worked out a deal. Well it arrived yesterday and I couldn’t grab my camera fast enough! If I can describe Dean’s work in one word, without hesitation it would be “Flawless”.
"The Immortal" Hulk Hogan
There are a few things that stand out immediately with this figure. Yes it’s the same R3 Tech head that everyone else uses, only because it’s the best scaled bandana-wearing-skin-tone-matching head! But the one thing that really differentiates this custom from others is the torso choice. Hogan was never overly-ripped and this torso faithfully represents his size without inaccurately portraying him as a lean body builder-type.
Another key design choice was the whole leg assembly from boots-to-thighs. Not only does it give the figure the correct scale in terms of height, but also allows the knee pads to be correctly positioned in proportion to the top of the boots. He came packaged with a gold Mattel stand and custom name tag (both not pictured) and a nicely made “Hulk Rules” vest.
I’ll leave it to The1Dean70© to provide the recipe.
Final thoughts: if Mattel could only work with the parts they currently had available, I’ll bet dollars to donuts the design team would come up with this exact recipe for his body. Add the quality paint job to his yellow trunks and this figure looks “factory” mint. This is definitely a gem in my collection.
