Mattel keeps bringing up how they refuse to make any add-ons or accessories for the Elite Scale Ring because the sales for it were so bad...
My question is....how is that possible?
Does anybody on here have any stores they know of that still have the Elite Scale Ring? Did they ever clog up shelves? Go on clearance? I'm pretty sure no.
To my knowledge, the only place you can still get the Elite Scale Ring is online for retail price or higher.
Now...here is what I personally THINK killed the Elite Scale Ring......besides online retailers, did it ever show up at ANY other store besides Toys "R" Us?
We all know Toys "R" Us is notorious for going months without restocking WWE Mattel products and getting in certain things only once. I just have this vision in my head of Toys "R" Us distribution centers all over this country filled with boxes and boxes and boxes of Elite Scale Rings that never got sent out to any stores.
It may have showed up at Target as well, but like Toys "R" Us, they are also notorious for going a long time between restocks and getting a lot of items in only once and never getting them in again.
So that is my question about the Elite Scale Ring? Did it sell poorly because people didn't want it...or did it sell poorly because it never hit enough stores for people to actually BUY it! The way Mattel stuff hits stores in such a screwy, un-balanced and unorganized way, I'm guessing the the latter, because everyone I've ever talked to wanted it and everyone who has it loves it.

Well, if you didn't see it at anyplace other than TRU (which was the only mass retailer I saw carry it) then yes it did sell poorly. Because that means none of the other big mass retailers (Target/WalMart/KMart) wanted to buy it from them. Remember the sales numbers they come up with doesn't just mean us buying it from the retailers...it also means the numbers they sold to the retailers because Mattel makes their money from the retailers buying from them. So if the retailers other than TRU aren't buying it then yes the sales poor.

So if the retailers other than TRU aren't buying it then yes the sales poor. That's stupid then. So because a store doesn't want to carry something it gets labeled as a "poor selling item"? Clearly Toys "R" Us sold out of every single one of them that they got because you can't find this thing anywhere.....the fact that they never restocked is their fault, not ours! Hopefully Mattel realizes that things that are selling poorly are the faults of the stores that refuse to restock in a respectable time frame, if they even get certain items at all! We want the stuff and we buy it IF we can find it, we just can't find it! Mattel makes great stuff and whatever hits shelves sells out.....there just isn't enough of it on the shelves! The Mattel WWE sections of all my stores is ALWAYS empty except for Flex Force and Rumblers....ironically the things Mattel claims sell the best? That's a paradox to me....stores refuse to carry or re-order WWE Mattel products even though they always sell out quickly? You would think they would want to restock as quickly and often as possible for such in demand items.....instead, the stores don't order or re-order, which gives Mattel poor sales despite the fact that the customers want their products? I'd say then that whoevers job within Mattel it is to contact retail chains and sell them the idea of carrying WWE Mattel products is doing a horrible job....

That's stupid then. So because a store doesn't want to carry something it gets labeled as a "poor selling item"? Yes, obviously. If a retail chain doesn't want to carry something, or doesn't want to carry much of something, it's because they don't see it as an attractive item. The buyers for the big chains have a lot of power -- this is why Mattel says to contact those guys, because they're the ones who decide what their company stocks. And if retail chains don't stock it, it's pretty much dead in the water, regardless of how much 200 people on here like it. The customer base for the elite ring is already small. Only a fraction of that base would spend money on extra aprons and ropes.

i agree lorenzo!
even @ tru it has no chance to sell well cause there are 4 rings right next to it for more than half the price! heck 4 basic rings, then flex force rings, now rumbler rings...

I hate to say it but the Ring is widely available online (even at Sears) with no markup. If these were in high demand internet prices would reflect that. The RSRs probably didn't do that great for Jakks either. Maybe Walmart and TRU based their buying off of those sales numbers. Anyone else pick up RSR EC, HIAC, RS Octagon for $20 each?

I know the elite ring hit here the same time as series 5, and it was put on sale price between series 6 and 7. I got it the same time I got Yoshi Tatsu.

Elite Ring was on sale at Target.com for $19.99. Then it finally sold out. There's a TRU around me that still has 4 of them.

If I knew that Mattel was not making things for the ESR, I would have not bought mines.

The ESR is one of the few Mattel items I've never seen in stores. My local TRU never got them at all.

I don't recall ever seeing it in stores either. A little expensive for the average customer, but it's a beautiful piece though. Luckily I got mine online at half price.

I only saw the ESR's at TRU and I think Target. I remember seeing them on sale at TRU about a month or so after I bought it. After that, they were pretty much gone and never restocked. I understand that the high retail price is a turn-off for stores but it's not like the other specialty rings are that much cheaper. Sure, there are $15 Basic rings everywhere for kids. But almost every other type of ring, like the electronic MitB, Ringside Battle, Kmart Steel Cage, and new TLC ones, are $40+!
I almost picked up the Electronic FlexForce MitB ring yesterday, until I scanned it and saw that it was $39.99. That was just too much for a light-up, talking Basic ring with those ugly action feature FF ladders. I put it back and saved up for the TLC set instead.
Thinking about it, I feel the real downfall to the ESR is that it is a collector-oriented product and few stores were willing to take a chance on it. It's a perfect ring but it's just too much for kids to handle. It requires careful assembly and lots of space. It's also the most expensive WWE toy in stores. This is something that should be featured regularly in MattyCollector, WWE Shop, Toyfare, and RSC. I'm glad I got my ESR when I did because it may soon become a rare gem of the Mattel collection!

I got mine on Amazon for 30 bucks at Christmas time. It was a last minute gift that I asked for. My mom wanted 1 more thing to get me, and I told her that it was available for 30 bucks on Amazon and voilla! I got it on Christmas morning. A phenomenal addition to my collection. Definitely a must have for a true Mattel collector. I never even saw it in stores. I'm not sure if my TRU ever actually got it or not.
