Well Australias drought of WWE figs had forced me to purchase this figure online as it was one I was definitely not going to miss. Rrarely ever ordering a PPV any time other WM and RR, I had decided to order the very first MITB 2010 PPV only for it to turn out to be the best night in Kanes entire career. Thankfully, Mattel celebrated the occasion with Mattel Elite Series 10 Kane. Complete with his freshly won MITB case and world title he won an hour later, Kanes comes complete with all the accolades from the night.
MOC, this figure looks great. Red naturally suits Kane but mattel did well by having him hold the briefcase but hoisting the title up in his other hand as he did that night. The best way mattel could have done this figure is exactly as they have done.
Whilst it looks great MOC, this figure is something special loose. Mattel seems to do a good job on their Kane figures...
And sure Kane doesnt mix up his attires too often these days so most of his modern day figures are reasonably similar (though mattel makes a good job of changing minor details) but this elite is a standout for a few reasons.
Here you can see the elite next to the basic form of the same attire. They are the same attire with obviously different headscans. The elite features the same headscan as E4 which has a really good likeness. Kane is one of the lucky superstars to have really solid basic and elite scans. However, over than the scan, the elite has a few more enhancements.
The first thing is the wristbands as you can see differ across several mattel kanes:
They tend to vary in length but is more accurate on both the elites. Rather than the basics.
The first basic had the separately moulded wristband which may look alright but its perhaps a bit too large compared to a painted on one which E10 has.
The next point of difference is the gloves:
Kane has changed this up from time to time. His original basic and elites had the accurate glove with holes but his modern basics tend to have the holes painted in which is partially accurate. While Kane taped his hand during his world title run, it would often go up the wrist like he was wearing wristape. Whilst the basic doesnt have this, the E10 has it although the glove holes arent filled in. Seems like they were covering all bases here as I dont recall him wearing a taped gloved hand with the holes open. What also makes Kanes elite figures better than the basics is the elbow pads. The longer larger elbow pads more accurately reflect what Kane wears rather than the short ones featured on the basics.
Another point of difference is the boots. Whilst every modern Kane mattel figure has featured matte boots, the E10 features gloss ones which stands out a lot more. Kanes boots are glossy too so it is more accurate. Little things like the gloss make the elite much better than the basic.
However, in my view, the biggest difference is the tights:
Not that the basic is all that bad, but the elite is so much more vibrant. Mattel have given the elite a gloss black for the belts that are on Kanes tights so it is differentiated from the rest of the tights whereas on the basic it all blends in. Also, theyve used a silver colour for the studs which makes a huge difference in how bright the attire looks. These two elements alone which are often overlooked make the elite far better and is why its the best modern day kane figure out. Also, the red is a lot bolder and stronger too.
Accessories
In the accessory department, this Kane has a lot of firsts. Its the first to come with the Smackdown Money in the Bank Briefcase. In my view, its a bit oversize and im not a huge fan of the exposed hinge. Id have preferred if they used the Dibiase briefcase instead as its better sized. The MITB logo on it looks great just its too small in comparison to the size of the case. Perhaps they went with the larger case so they could fit the logo on without it going into the grooves.
And now the most debatable part of the figure. Mattel have openly said that the budget on the series was exhausted with the big shows one time release belts so Kanes first release world title belt had to go without the vac metalizing. Obviously, theres a difference between the matte and the metalized versions however for the world championship it really isnt as bad as people think. Under light it has some reflectivity to it. The world title itself isnt as reflective as the other titles in WWE and there are times it looks exactly like this mattel version.
At the end of the day, we will get a vac metalized version anyway so its good to have a second option. Ive heard a lot of people look down on this matte version but in all honesty, it looks really good particularly under light. Its got great detail in it too, more than the jakks version partiularly with the swirl designs on the main plate. Its a shame the side plates arent painted red for the rubys but being separate pieces it would obviously be another step in the process hence more money. The belt is really nice and flexible and fits together quite well. As for the overall scale, its about right. I do look forward to getting a proper vac metalized version but im quite happy with thise version for now or as another option.
Final shots:
Dont get me wrong, Mattel has done a phenomenal job on all their Kane figures, I just wanted to point out how good this Elite is and I would definitely recommend it as the definitive modern day Kane figure. In addition, you get two great accessories in the World Heavyweight Title and the SD Briefcase. All around its a quality figure with plenty of value in it! The gloss on the attire really makes it a standout as does the silver studs. Im just glad Mattel made a new Kane elite celebrating his literally, finest hour!
Watch out soon for a review of the RSC Exclusive Kane!
