I've collected WWE figures almost all my life but sadly this day has come sooner than expected. When Mattel took over and I saw the new stuff coming out and where Jakks started to cheap out near the end Mattel blew me away and I wanted to get everything they came out with. I spent a good chunk of money and time hunting down figures and paying ridiculous prices on my Jakks and Mattel collections respectively. Buying figures was a huge part of my life I couldn't imagine my life without that hobby. The past year or so my family and I have fallen on really hard times to points where we were staying at a motel for a while and then living at both my sister's places for periods of time because we had no home. We have a place now but my stepdad got into legal problems and the car insurance just got cancelled and with all the bills we paid (rent,electricity, TV,phone,gas etc.) we can barely afford weekly groceries so I have to be better with my money in case they need to borrow it. That isn't the only reason I decided to stop collecting I'm 24 going on 25 in a little more than 2 months and I feel like I'm growing out of it and the stress of trying to locate certain figures can seem overwhelming such as trying to find 2 Packs series 10,Elite 10,11 and so on. I've also noticed that Mattel has started doing things like making Big Show figures wear long socks covering up his tattoos on his legs just certain details like that even though they're small little things they still bother me. Retail warehouses are distributing poorly,scalpers are hoarding,prices are too high,they're being cheap on details the usual complaints can be said a thousand times over but those aren't my sole reasons for not wanting to collect anymore and I don't see them being cheap on details I'm well aware they're trying to save a couple bucks here and there which is what I'm in the process of doing so I can't blame them. I still think they have a great product and I'll still see what they're plan on making from time to time but I just feel like my collecting days are gone. I'm not sure what I plan on doing with my collection as they are all loose but if anyone has some suggestions or would like to know what I have pm me and if I feel like a deal can be made I'll do what I can to be as low priced as humanly possible.

Take some time away from collecting. When I was around the same age I stopped collecting for 4 years (from TTL series 2 to Classic 7). Other things come up in life that are more important. Maybe one day you'll find yourself wanting to collect again. WF will still be here. Hope everything works out for you with your family/life situation.

I hear you and have had these feelings regarding collecting over the last 2 months. I decided to keep my opened figures and start selling off my moc figures. I am also cutting back big time on picking up new items. I'll still be following whats coming out but more to just do a few customs and not collect as i have been for the last 2 years with mattel.

Im going through something similar, which is why I quit collecting and im selling all my stuff. Family comes first!

Good decision on cutting back to help the family.
But I would hold off selling your collection for as long as possible. I wasn't getting the feeling you really wanted to sell. You said you felt overwhelmed finding E10,11. They just made it to retail. Remember collecting isn't a competition and you don't have to be the first guy to buy every figure

As stated above,
I'm sorry to hear about your hard times. Take a break. Maybe sell off your Jakks stuff and keep your Mattel collection in case you want to pick collecting back up in the future.

I think, like others have said, that you should hold out on selling your collection. life is very unpredictable, and you never know what it has in store for you. Tomorrow things could get exponentially better, and you might suddenly feel reinvigorated to collect again.
I hope things do get better for you and your family.

hey, if ya can't afford it then what other choice do you have. you're almost 25, you gotta get out of your moms crib. you're probably more of a burden to her than you are a helper.

Hey i been there before too.. I collected Hasbros as a kid and would play with them and then i got into Jakks BCA and well, shortly after that, i lost interest and stopped collecting. I didnt collect figures for 10 years before i saw Mattel took over and made these awesome figures. They got me back into it after 10 years of not collecting.
Anways, im 26 years old too and i live on my own, pay all my own bills plus take care of my mother in another town how is old, ill, and financially sore. I could never stop collecting because its a big part of happiness in my life and yeah i get hit with financial problems alot, but if i stopped collecting, i would be broke all the time, depressed, stuck inside hating my life, and everyone around me, never having nothing too do. It would suck! The collection in a way helps me maintain my sanity through out living life. Idk, i guess everyone got there own lives, so i hope everything works out for you in the end. I would keep the collection though cause you can always slow down on buying new ones or only just get the ones you like or want in your collection. Ya know, just slow down on buying them all the time and so many at a time. Not like you have to spend all your money on toys, just pick up like 2 figs a month or budget yourself like that too where you can still collect and be happy yet still save money each month. Its not liek there is not plenty of superstars out there and being made still so you would always have someone too buy each month then

Beat me to it, everyone is always thinking Mattel is being cheap even when they do things right. But yeah if its a struggle just to make ends meet than sadly hobbies are the first to go. Glad to see some maturity among the boards and hope your situation improves for ya. Good luck. |

Big Show has black paint deco on his lower legs to represent the fact that at the time the figure was designed he was wearing black wraps on his legs up to his knee pads.
In the past The left leg had a two color tampo on it.
Now BOTH legs have a black paint color mask process on them, which is actually a MORE expensive process than the tampo hits.

Times are tough, My family is in the same situation. I am only 15, but my dad has had trouble covering the bills, food, laundry, etc. I just started collecting this year and I currently have only two figures, a Daniel Bryan basic and the comic con Mysterio rumbler. I hope to start to get more figures but I know family comes first of course. Good luck to you, hopefully one day you'll start collecting again.

On a serious note ,it is probably the right thing for you to stop collecting at this time and it really saddens me that people end their hobbies because of family troubles. I hope that everything works out well for you and you see the light again and take part in the collecting buzz.

Collecting toys takes a back seat to the necessities of life, my friend. When things turn around, you can get back into collecting. Don't worry things will get better for you.
