Licensing revenues were $9.0 million as compared to $10.8 million in the prior year quarter as lower toy, collectible and apparel sales more than offset an increase in video game sales. Revenues related to toys declined 24%, or $0.9 million, reflecting a challenging retail environment for certain toy categories. Revenues from our collectible products declined due to a tough comparison to a successful product launch in the prior year.

They were down last quarter too but everybody seemed to ignore that when I brought it and kept bitching about the various cost cutting measure Mattel has had to take.

Understandable. With the price increases I could see people being turned off. I'm hooked, and not going to stop collecting anytime soon though... lol

People may also be saving money for Xmas.
I would think there will be more sales now with Xmas coming.

I'm pretty much a legends collector so anytime there's something new to buy on that front I'm there. I wonder if some of the drop is because most of the current stars have figures and it's just a matter of repainting a tight design like Miz or Orton?
CM Punk on the other hand changes his looks so often, his new figures are almost always worth getting.

Legends releases are down, therefore Legends collecting is down. Plus, Christmas is right around the corner. It'll be a huge difference between these earnings and the Christmas time earnings.

Countless repaints, fans losing interest and stores increasing prices could all be to blame. Lets wait and see if the Christmas rush recoups some of lost revenue.
P.S. Best part of the conference call was the "Next Rock" part. I fell over when the laughter came through the call line.

Yeah, this sucks. I swear to god if Mattel loses the line, I'm done collecting. I can't be freaking rebuilding figure collections my whole life here. I did BCA, TTL, E3 Reals scan thingies, RA, DA, and all Mattel. I'm done. The prices are way too high. I'm an adult collector and it's tough for me to get every figure I want. Kids must be driving parents crazy to spend fifteen on an Elite figure. I don't know. Part of me thinks the reason is because the product kind of sucks right now. How many repaints of Orton and Cena can you have anyway? I'm just bummed out.

I feel like after Ringside Fest they've found a pretty good balance. I know some of you would love a massive Legends line but it just isn't marketable at the costs to have a bunch of Legends 9 Bill Alfonsos shelf warming.
It's frustrating, sure, but here we have most of the issues worked out like a new type of cloth for shirts, Legends are still coming out, and it's still a major Mattel focus. Criticisms are best geared towards specific figure details as opposed to overall line criticisms. We are where we are.
No, Mattel did not send me a free ghost trap to post this.

I'd buy new figures, like E11 and L6, if I could find the damn things.

" Nov - 02 2011 | no comments U.S. toy imports drop 9% despite the upcoming holidays. Toy imports to the U.S. sank 9% from September 2010 to September 2011. The U.S. retailers took a wary approach going into the 2011 holiday season, according to “The Journal of Commerce/PIERS. The decline in container volume (mostly from China) is a strong sign that the U.S.stores are troubled by figures showing diminishing consumer confidence. The retailers are choosing to keep inventories smaller rather than discount sales deeply.“When toy import prices increase, the tendency for demand is to decline . . . 74 per cent of the time.” said Mario O. Moreno, economist for “The Journal of Commerce/PIERS.” As of 2011, the inbound toy shipments began in China which is 89% of the shipments. Labor and material prices are higher because the U.S. dollar’s value against the Chinese Yuan diminished." SOURCE UBM Global Trade

Its disgusting...utterly disgusting what we as consumers have to pay for a simple Basic wrestling figure. No wonder "revenue" is down. I guarantee if Mattel & these scalping retailers worked together to keep prices REASONABLE they would sell MORE STUFF
There's no reason why a "Basic" WWE figure should cost more than $10. Especially when there are SO MANY released

Keep investing in flex force and kill legends dm legends two packs etc .... Speaking of Flex Force, I saw a big Flex Force cube display at walmart today. It was loaded with HHH, the new Cena, a white pants, back flipping Evan "One Strike" Bourne, baby blue Rey and the Crash Down ring. A sad comparison to the holiday display they got last year. I hope this isn't the only one they get season.

Not all that surprising if you ask me. I can't complain about Mattel's figures cause they are top notch. And as an adult collector for the most part I can afford them. But there approach seems to not be great for what WWE fig collectors are used to.
They sell us figures that are twice the cost of what we paid for Jakks figures. Jakks figures appealed to kids, and collectors. They were able to push out a lot of them for reasonable prices. Mattel seems generally only comfortable releasing a few figures at prices that are much higher than we are used to. In addition to prices going up our disposable income is less than it was in the past.
Think of it. If you want to have a match you need 2 figures. If you like current guys with Jakks that cost you between 14-16 dollars for a two pack or 2 singles depending on where you bought them. With mattel you are paying over $20 for 2 basic figures and over $32 for 2 elite figures. Huge price for one match.
Hope Mattel can turn this around. I love the product and want to continue seeing it.

I've felt Mattel has done a great job pumping out Legends product. Sure it's not it's on dedicated line, but we're still getting about the same amount. I'd love to see more 80s-90s Legends like Bossman and Yokozuna in the Flashback line and less King Booker, but I'll take what I can get.
Matty.com gives us a great avenue for more Legends. We've just gotta buy 'em. And I CAN NOT wait to have The Rockers in my Legends display!
