i can definitely agree with that....backstage influence/power aside, Triple H just cam back in January, to a monster push,was over with the fans,and you give him the Undisputed World Championship at WrestleMania - only to lose it a month later to a 50 year old Hogan? that made NO sense,booking-wise,other than Vince feeling nostalgic,and thinking he han resurrect Hulkamania for one more profitable run...
hell,HOGAN himself said he originally was booked to job out to HHH,and said he was happy to do so,as it would help make Trips a bigger star,but then was surprised when told shortly before the PPV that it was changed and he was going over instead...

I always understood why Trips got the belt, he was the #1 contender, and the last guy who had the World Title, so I always thought it made sense.
I would say though, even though I don't like him, Trips should never have lost to Hogan, made no sense, could it have been a way to stop Taker from beating Trips at JD?
But I have only recently heard from this board (best board on the Forum btw) about Trips' ways backstage. Crazy how much pull he had and how much he changed things, however 2002 was a weird time anyway. The roster was stacked as crap, it was full of possibly Main Eventers, however instead of push them and make more stars, it seems Trips just buried them or Vince did it.

i As said RVD was very dedicated back then yes he was and could have been MASSIVE for Vince if faith had been shown in him but it wasnt.HHH(and others to be fair)said RVD was reckless and careless and in the first EC he injured HHHs throat with the botched splash from the booth............cue 4 more years in the mid card. then he proved the above naysayers right AGAIN.Jesus I was furious with him. |

I genuinely dont think it was a way to stop ol Champ In Law from jobbing to Taker because he and Stephanie were said to be furious at Vinces decision to put Hogan over.......apparently she pleaded with Vinnie to change his mind but Vince and Kevin Dunne were convinced it was the right way to go. also while Im here-Kevin Dunnes backstage power in his capacity as boss of production should NEVER be underestimated.Vince listens to him and he has been by Vinces side in the same job longer than anyone. and yes this is the best board on the forum by a country phucking mile.....with the best posters. |

I remember when Triple H also helped plot the assassination of John F. Kennedy. And then he had the nerve to fake the moon landing. I read it all on the internet so it must be true. so your are denying his massive stroke backstage from his return in 02(and before)? I believe Stephs backstage tantrum was over Vince changing the plan for Backlash 02 to Hogan going over,he basically overruled her as head of creative without any conferring beforehand. on this subject Im with HHH and Steph......Hogan going over HHH was the wrong move.our reasoning is different but it was still wrong. I'm not denying that Triple H had stroke. But having stroke isn't anything new to wrestling. Guys like Dusty, Flair, Lawler, Hogan, HBK, & Jarrett have all made themselves household names with their stroke. But when it comes to Triple H, most fans believe every story they read on the internet. They want to believe that Triple H is responsible for every decision they don't approve of. When the truth is no matter how much we read the dirtsheets, none of us know what really goes on behind the scenes. |

Plus, after Hunter defeated and humiliated Goldberg in the Elimination Chamber, while he had a legit groin injury and couldn't go much, I don't think its that hard to see how much "power" HHH really did, and does have, w/ Vince and creative. |

totally a tournament - you had so much talent that was ready to shine, booker t, rvd, even bully ray amongst others on raw, and they just got buried and jobbed to hhh one at a time.
that was such a wcw move to give hhh the belt for no goddam reason...and by bischoff of all people!

If they did a tournament, they should have given HHH an automatic slot in the quarter-finals since he technically was the number one contender before Lesnar took the WWE Title to SmackDown.

A few years ago, a former Raw writer from that time frame actually wrote a blog on how RVD was actually scheduled to be the World Champion. But at the last minute they decided to give it to Triple H. It just seemed that Triple H tried to bury RVD then. RVD was the man, then he ended up jobbing out to Triple H, got into a feud with Flair, and then ended up tagging with Kane and making a run for the Tag Titles (again, after Triple H buried Kane by taking the IC Title off of him at No Mercy). In short, what I am trying to say is.... Triple H liked to bury people. It seemed he wasn't happy until he was the only guy. I am willing to bet he loved that Raw a few weeks ago when it was only him in the ring and everyone else left. Finally he achieved his
life long goal as to be the only wrestler in the WWE. +1 |

They should of booked it as a Tournament, but had RVD look on top form during his Matches cruising through and looking a real legit Contender, while Triple H should of had to luckily win his Round Matches and cheat his way to victory looking like he was just scraping through the rounds.
Triple H should of met RVD in the Final at Unforgiven, with RVD going into the Match with all the momentum while people were questioning Triple H and whether he could pull it off. Ric Flair Heel Turn and screw RVD out of the Title, Triple H takes the World Heavyweight Championship, and with Ric Flair at his side now gets the confidence he needs to become the old cerebral assassin and bad-ass that he used to be, and dominates everyone as World Champion.
He should of held it all the way to Wrestlemania XIX then dropped it to Booker T who would of overcome all the odds and finally won his 6th World Title.

Agreed. RVD was w/out a doubt the most over guy in the WWE during 2002. No matter where the WWE went he got the biggest pops and had signs and his foam RVD hands all over the arenas. I never understood where the idea came that he was never a draw and never a main event player since he was over like crazy and everybody back then practically begged the WWE to put the world title on him. Looking at the support Zack Ryder has from fans today, it's nothing compared to the support RVD had from the fans back in 2002.
