Obviously a lot of people haven't been exactly happy with the business the past few years, but I want to know what everyone thinks was the "best" year for WWE in the past five years.

Probably this year considering every other year seemed to be dominated by Batista, Cena and HHH, which bored the hell out of me.
Look at it this way... -Return of the Great One -CM Punk bigger than ever -Alberto Del Rio rises -Daniel Bryan wins MITB -Dolph Ziggler. -Cena fails to win 3 out of the big 4 ppv's -The Miz wins the Wrestlemania main event.
...the only thing thats missing is Y2J.

As far as past 5 years goes probably 06, Beginning of 09, 2010/2011. 08 was good while 07 sucked balls.
All time any year starting from late 97-02, Best years for the Wrestling world as a whole. Anyone who was around those days can be consider themselves blessed.

I agree with that when I think about it like that. I went back and watched a few segments from Raw a few years back, and I realized it wasn't really good at all. At least not as good as I thought it was at the time

Well I'm going to type each year out starting from the one that killed pro wrestling for me for a while, then I can think back from there and see what year I've enjoyed the most.
2005 - The year I got bored with wrestling and began not watching as much and moved to TNA. 2006 - TNA and WWE both felt god awful to me at this point and I just started to drop wrestling. 2007 - The Great Khali held a title, that sums up this year. 2008 - I began enjoying the product once again, seeing guys like Jeff Hardy and Punk hold gold. 2009 - Reminded me of a slightly better 2007. 2010 - The Nexus stuff was fantastic, I really enjoyed this year. 2011 - Now, well I enjoyed this year from the start to begining.
So overall out of the last 5 years and the ones I mentioned 2011 has been the best, followed by 2010 and 2008.

For Smackdown, I'd say 2011.
Raw has been pretty lame this year besides Punk, Cena, Rock, Ryder, Ziggler, Awesome Truth and Triple H.

I'd definitely say this year.
The Rock returns. The Miz main events WrestleMania. Daniel Bryan wins Money In The Bank. CM Punk's awesome shoot promo. Zack Ryder. Christian wins World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Alberto Del Rio wins Royal Rumble. Money In The Bank PPV as a whole. Heel R-Truth. Heel Mark Henry. Mark Henry wins World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Cody Rhodes Grotesque and Dashing gimmicks were/are awesome. Rey Mysterio wins the WWE Championship for the first time. Orton/Christian feud. Great PPV's.
I could go on and on and on. I really have loved this year from start to finish.

Triple H losing control of RAW, leading to the Walkout. The Barrett Barrage. Kevin Nash returning. Booker T on commentary. Mick Foley returning. The first ring collapse in 8+ years. A PPV main event contested in a collapsed ring. Rock and Cena tag teaming inside Madison Square Garden. Rock vs. Cena match set for WrestleMania 28. A slight revival of the Tag Team Division. Plenty of fantastic matches on weekly shows. CM Punk leaving with the WWE Title. CM Punk becoming the biggest Face in the company. Sheamus becoming a top Face. John Morrison getting in a WWE Title Main Event at Extreme Rules, and proceeding to steal the show. Undertaker vs. Triple H at WrestleMania 27. Hardly any Guest Hosts taking up airtime on RAW. Kharma. Edge's emotional retirement. David Otunga wearing bowties and slurping coffee. Who lowered the damn Cell? Another unsolved mystery. This year will be remembered for a lot of things in the future, many fond memories will come from 2011. Previous years will look like crap in comparison.

Of the last five, this year with ease imo. Although, 09-10 were awesome for Smackdown imo. I personally don't think WWE has been this entertaining since like, IDK, 03ish. Nothing will ever touch 97/98 for me though, at least I don't see that happening.

2011 has a lot of moments and memories when you look back on it, especially in a few years. But I can't help but feel alot of the stuff could of had been played out longer or in a different way.
Still, since Nexus wwe have been on a pretty good role imo.

From the beginning of 2010 to mid-2010 it felt like 1992 again, where the last of the previous decade's mainstays starting drifting off starting a whole new era...HBK, Jericho, HHH (although to return after a year in 2011), Undertaker disappeared before and after WM 27, Batista, Hardy, and some of the midcarders who had been around since the early 2000's. The roster really really thinned just before the Nexus angle started.
2011 has mostly been a great year, hampered only by the Triple H C.O.O. storyline and the worst storyline of the year, Awesome Truth. Want to know why Vengeance only drew 130,000 buys? Putting the WWE's top draw (CM Punk) in a tag team match teaming with Triple H against Truth and Miz, instead of putting him in a match against Cena or HHH. Oh wait, that's right, we can't have Supercena or Vince's son in law getting cheered less than their opponent. I'm truly looking forward to what WWE is going to do about Rock/Cena at WM28. Maybe insert audio of louder cheers for Cena when he makes his entrance?
WWE can do even better things in 2012 if they weren't playing it safe.
