Kevin Kelly back in the announcing booth? Interesting choice, especially considering he’s being paired with Joey Styles. The opening commentary was a little generic; that is, it’s your first ever show and someone like Joey Styles and even Kevin Kelly would have more energy than you let on. Opening commentary sets the tone for the entire show…just didn’t feel that excitement that a first show usually brings.
Would’ve liked to have seen a longer promo from McMahon/Joe. I assume McMahon is Joe’s manager? Interesting pairing…I like it. I especially like the booking for the main event(s); Joe vs. Sabu and RVD vs. Jericho sounds absolutely awesome.
Rhyno vs. X-Pac Well that was very short. I’m not sure how believable it is to have Rhyno beat X-Pac with a couple of right hands and then a Piledriver. I get playing up on “The Man Beast” gimmick but X-Pac is a veteran in this business, someone that’s wrestled hundreds of matches in his career. I just can’t see him getting beat by a single Piledriver. Would’ve been better if the match went a little longer or you had Rhyno squash a jobber.
Rhyno wants a title shot…and he’ll have a chance if he beats Joe. Suddenly, it’s Joe vs. Rhyno and Jericho vs. Sabu vs. RVD. Interesting twist though I have to admit I was anxious to read Samoa Joe/Sabu.
Rhyno vs. Samoa Joe Once again, not feeling how short these matches are. Rhyno just squashed the hell out of X-Pac like he’s some rookie, looks super strong and a believable opponent for Samoa Joe…and he gets beat in short fashion (even if Vince interfered). I would’ve booked this better. I would’ve had Rhyno continue crushing opponents (none as established at X-Pac) and would’ve had Joe done the same thing and eventually have the two of them meet for the title at a PPV.
The Bill Alfonso/Sabu/RVD segment was interesting but you didn’t really capture Fonzie’s style well. Fonzie is always screaming and blowing that damn well. “LISTEN HERE, DADDY, THE HOMICIDIAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL SABU IS GONNA BE THE WORLD CHAMP. AND MR. MONDAY NIGHT IS GONNA BE THE T.V. CHAMP AND NOBODY IS GONNA STOP US! *Blows whistle*” See the difference? That’s more Fonzie-esque.
Who exactly is in The Corporation? You never established that Vince was even starting up a Corporation in this show. Why are Vince, Joe, Booker T, Angle, Edge and Christian in this group? A bit confusing…
Sting vs. Jerry Lynn Decent match with an upset of an ending. I fully expected Sting to pick up the victory though I was pleasantly surprised to see Jerry Lynn pick up the victory. Lynn’s always been a tremendous talent that was held back because of his lackluster personality.
This storyline involving The Corporation and the main event is a little complicated but it’s keeping my interest…
Jerry Lynn’s interview doesn’t make much sense for the following reasons:
1. Jerry Lynn wants to become World Champion. Fair request considering he just beat Sting… 2. Lynn says he’ll become a member of The Corporation if he has to and is willingly to help Vince 3. It’s pretty clear Vince wants Joe to be Champion… 4. Lynn is willing to help create the monster that is Samoa Joe 5. So Lynn wants to complicate his goal of becoming World Champion by helping Joe win the title and then help him become a monster in this company? Doesn’t make much sense man…
Chris Jericho vs. RVD vs. Sabu Oh…my God. I cannot believe the match was decided on a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. That’s insanely bad booking, man. This should be a great match between three amazing competitors and you have it decided on a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors? That’s crazy, man.
Chris Jericho vs. Samoa Joe This match was a little more back and forth but Joe still wins fairly easily (which I agree with). Him as the champion is the right call for sure…
Well, you have the right idea but your execution just isn’t there. You need to think out these storylines a little bit better; I was really angry that Jericho/RVD/Sabu was decided over a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. I hope this review doesn’t discourage you but rather encourages you to do better. You need to execute and think things out better.
I look forward to your second show…
