Welcome to the first ever Nevada State Wrestling show and Night 1 of the New Years Grief Tournament. It's a roughly two hour show out of the Dogpound Gym in northern Las Vegas, Nevada near the suburbs and is being streamed live out through the internet on blocked with a live crowd audience of about 1,700 people having paid tickets.
The following is the card for the evening's events. Each match is an initial qualifying match for the New Years Grief Tournament where the winner will be crowned as the first ever Nevada State Wrestling (NSW) Heavyweight Champion. There are sixteen men in this tournament with each match being ruled under traditional NSW wrestling rules. The fourteen competitors (not including the finalists) who don't win the tournament will be put into an over the top Battle Royale before the main event of Night 2 along with six other competitors (totalling 20) to determine the first number 1 contender to Night 2's main event winner.
Block A
Jake Cheng VS Kaz Hiyashida
In the very first match of Night 1 we have what is sure to be some fast paced, explosive action between newcomer Jake Cheng and puro-resu sensation Kaz Hiyashida. Kaz is a ten year veteran on the Japanese circuit known to his legion of fans as “Thunder” and will be sure to use all that wrestling experience to his advantage. However he comes up against tough opposition in the form of the hot blooded Chinese thug Jake Cheng with martial art skills and an ever present army of thugs to back him up.
Bodhi Sattva VS A.C.E.
In a total clash of cultures, the eerie and spaced out spiritual "God's Gift" that is Bodhi Sattva goes one on one with the toughest, nastiest thug straight from the streets of Harlem. A.C.E has the size and the power advantage as well as experience under his belt having been a mainstay on the US independent scene for the last five years but Bodhi Sattva has buckets of confidence and devastating submission holds in his repertoire so who will prevail in this contest is anyone's guess.
Block B
Kudo Yasuda VS Adrian Baird
These two men are some of the toughest, nastiest strikers in the industry. That is where the similarities between the two end. Kudo Yasuda is a highly disciplined and skilled "Knockout Artist" who brings decades of intense martial arts training and a junior heavyweight style to break apart his opponents piece by piece while Adrian Baird is a wild, unruly drunk and dangerous street fighter who has the experience of a thousand bar fights under his belt. Whether it will be the explosive unpredictability of the the Scotch belter or the R-3 Warrior to come out on top remains to be seen.
Scott Michaels VS Johnny Caparo
Radio personality and megalomaniac party boy "The Voice" Johnny Caparo has been touring the US independent scene for sometime before finding his home at NSW. Having won two world championships previously, he may find he has met his match in Scott Michaels. Michaels is a quiet yet self-assured, confident individual who brings incredible high-flying and parkour training mixed with intensive boxing bringing to the ring an unorthodox mix of thug and fly. Meanwhile Caparo knows every dirty trick in the book and is a naturally gifted, athletically sound wrestler. However in the battle of West Coast VS East Coast there can be only one winner.
Block C
John Daniels VS Harry Jackson
It's a curious clash of cultures here as former GWF Undisputed Champion "The Hunter" Harry Jackson sets to face off against the big, smash-mouth Texan "Bruiser" John Daniels where once again the differences couldn't be any more apparent. The Hunter has a decade and a half of wrestling success under his belt and with him he brings a methodical game of classically trained wrestling, shoot submission and hard strikes to pick up the win. Meanwhile John Daniels isn't too far behind him with experience having been touring Japan for the majority of his career but Daniels is a Texan brawler with a bad attitude who'll be looking to show Jackson the power of his Alamo Cutter.
Alexa Valentine VS Ross Lambert
You only have to take one look at Ross Lambert to see why he's the favourite in this contest. Standing at 6'5 and weighing 275lbs he's a sturdy, brute of a man with some of the stiffest slams and most twisted holds in the game. He's a strong, violent combatant who can beat his opponents into a ruddy pulp. Make no mistake however, he's not a monster. The scariest thing about Ross beyond his great strength is his tremendous intelligence and his planning allowing him to twist any situation to his advantage albeit through manipulation and brute force. However he comes up against Alexa Valentine, the beauty queen with the heart of gold. This rocker chick with the deadly knee strikes looks to topple Ross Lambert, a GWF Hall of Famer and one time World Heavyweight Champion off of his pedestal for good.
Block D
Michael Callahan VS Alyssa Shardani
It's no secret to anyone that the beautiful redhead, "Red Cyclone" Alyssa Shardani is the daughter of the boss Danny Mainer but make no mistake she won't be relying on that to succeed. At the tender age of 19 years old she's been fully trained to wrestler by her dad and brings to the ring that same dynamic mix of Muay Thai Kickboxing and High-Flying that brought her father countless championships. However she's never quite faced an opponent like Michael Callahan before. The Political Science graduate has been a mainstay on the US independent scene for the past eight years and is well known for some of the most horrific submission moves a man can come up with. Often his moves are made on the fly out of sheer improvisation but none are quite as deadly as his patented "Victory Lock", a Rear Naked choke which the Republican has used to clinch many titles.
El Chombo VS Zakk Venom
The final contest and our main event of the evening comes from the battle between masked wrestling sensation El Chombo and the famous rockstar Zakk Venom, front man and guitarist of smash hit band “The Broken Art”. El Chombo was once a highly talented young star on the Mexican Lucha Circuit until a mini-moped accident left him sidelined for two years. Depressed at being unable to wrestle Chombo piled on the weight and hasn't been able to shift it since. His lucha skills deteriorated and now we are left with the zany, comical El Chombo. In the opposite corner is a big, tough rockstar who brings a fast, hard pace to his matches and devastating power.
