I don't think so, and it has nothing to do with the PG excuse. How many shortcomings and faults can people possibly try to explain using that theory?
It's Wrestlemania season, of course there's going to be some additional exposure (especially when your biggest match features a Hollywood star), it will likely die down again after the smoke from 'Mania has cleared.
Wrestlemania season is the one time of year that the general public and media accepts professional wrestling, mostly because it sees the incredible set of positives the event brings to the host city.

Honestly, it will never be mainstream again, or at least anytime soon. The target audience has been kids for to long. I am young and I still get ridiculed for liking it. It could only truly be mainstream if a larger age group liked it, which isn't the case. I know a large part of the WWE's fan-base is older, but non-fans don't know that.....

Its going to take another decade for all the fans who quit watching after the Attitude Era died to stop trashing the product and the current fan base to have kids and pull them into watching it. The Attitude Era just casts to big a shadow and people see Cena, Punk and Orton as watered down versions of the "cool" stars like Rock, Austin and Foley. I know many people who have tried to get back into wrestling over the past 3 years only to find the characters boring and stories to simplified.
