I've always enjoyed super heroes in movies and TV shows, and while I've read some comics, the entire medium has seemed intimidating to me. I'm the kind of guy who likes to start from the beginning with every piece of fiction I view/read, and that's incredibly hard to do with comics.
But, with the DC reboot, I think it might be time to start. I'm thinking about buying all the back-issues for the New 52 Action Comics, Detective Comics, and possibly JLA, and then getting subscriptions. But, then you have New 52 versions of Superman and Batman, and then even more spin-offs from there. So, my question is; do you need to read Action Comics, Superman, Supergirl, and Superboy, or Detective Comics and the ridiculous amount of Batman spin-offs, etc., to get the full picture, or would I be fine with just going with the "main" lines?

Those aren't spin offs....they're their own self contained titles. Read the characters you like.

Do you need to? No. But you will be missing out on some great books.

Alright, another quick question, because I can't seem to find the answer on DC's site; if I subscribe to a few this month, would I be sent this month's issues (#7's) first, or next month's (#8's) first? I just want to be sure, so I don't buy any duplicates on eBay beforehand.

Can't help you there. I don't know anyone who subscribes through the mail.

I have heard horror stories about mail subscriptions. They arrive very late, or not at all, or in terrible shape. Personally, I recommend either finding a local comic shop and geting a pull box with them, or ordering through a comic shop by mail, or even buying them digitally.

Can any one tell me.. A all the bat man titles B if there is a paper back and C If there is any continunty between the bat titles/ Batman Detective Comics Batman & Robin Batwing Batwoman Batgirl and a slight tie in with Suicide Squad, if not more. Trade have been announced for the new 52, there's a thread on it on this page. I don't think you NEED to read all of the books to get a full story. I'm only keeping up with Batman, Detective Comics and Suicide Squad.
