Firstly, They pay more than retail stores do because they buy smaller numbers. they have to sell them for more to make up that difference, and as other people have said they sell the chases for more to make up for the others that won't sell.
Also, and this is the most important part, they sell them for that price because people will buy it. I'm not one of those people as I'm perfectly willing to wait. But I also don't begrudge them for getting what they can in the deal.
They'll show up in stores eventually, so just be patient and get them that way if you don't want to pay what RSC is charging.

Well they are a small business so they can't make any profit by selling all figures for the same price like TRU, and well business is business. If collectors are willing to pay that much they will keep doing it.

But they've mishandled many lines for many years - they don't seem to know how to get things right via distribution.
It does seem like the discontent is really peaking lately - and with good reason.
I'm right there, too. I've been a life-long collector and I was just about to post something about it but I saw this thread. When I was a little kid I remember Hasbro's were $8 a pop then at the nearest KB and I couldn't get all of them then no matter how hard I tried and they weren't even hard to find in-store. Granted, I was in single digits and all I had was an occasional allowance but anyway. What I'm saying is it's come to that same point with me. It disappointed me so much then as a little kid that right there was every figure in the line but I could only get 1 or 2 at a time because if someone old enough remembers- Walmart didn't get these after the first series and if you didn't have a KB or TRU locally(like I didn't, I had to drive about an hour and a half being from a small town) that was it, and we didn't have online retailers back then either, and $8 a pop for a figure in the early 90's was expensive. I love the WWE and have my entire life and will forever but, when I go on Ringside(because finding the figs I want at retail is about a 50/50 shot which is a gamble I don't want to take) and I see that 2 Kevin Nash's are over $80 together and Yokozuna is now $50, do I have to say it? This is WAY TOO MUCH. It is, and it's sucking the life out of me and I'm not the only one. I've been saying it for months now- I hope the new scale they're launching next Spring will save us collectors. Either that or for goodness sake straighten out their distribution so we can all buy these at the SRP or both. I'm on the verge of saying it...I'm just gonna say that sometimes I want Jakks back...sometimes. Simpler times...simpler times.
Hmmm I don't know, sometimes I think about it and isn't it more fun to have the thrill of the hunt and some figures being worth more than others since there were less made, than having all the figs all laid out in every store and each being worth the same thing since they are all common finds? Maybe I feel that way cuz I also collect vinyl toys which have specific ratios and some are just harder to find and worth a lot more than others.....

They charge higher for more-indemand figures and lower for lesser demanded figures. It makes sense because they have to make money too, as a business.

What I think is BS is that Mattel won't let RSC pick which figures come in a case yet TRU and Kmart are allowed to order cases of BPs that only contained the Rock/Cena 2 pks. I understand that RSC doesn't have purchasing power that Walmar, TRU, etc has but if RSC were allowed to do such it would make everyone happy. Dude we have been through this a hundred times. Toys R Us does not pick and choose from mattel directly. They have distrabution centers where they are shipped. The Specifice toys r us can choose what they want sent to there store from the distrabution Centers. Mattel sends the exact same cases to thye Center, and then they break them open and make their own cases.
