So yea, I've been pretty obsessed with this movie as of late, to the point where I've decided I'm going in search of the book now (I don't read much, so yea haha). What the hell is it all about? I mean seriously, after having watched it and all, I mean I get the child has this Shining thing, but what the hell, the whole thing is weird and a total mind . The ending, the ing ending, what the hell, that picture just crazies up the film even more. So yea, can anyone explain whats going on, any thoughts on the film, anything Shining related?

It's about Jack Nicholson going terrifyingly scary because he's isolated away from anything, if i was snowed in a ed up hotel with my wife and kid, i'd go crazy too haha. I watched it for the 1st time last year and it scared the ing hell out of me. The picture at the end confused me too, never really found out what it meant Heads up about the book, the film ending is completely different from the original book ending. Stephen King was pretty pissed about that.

the picture is about how he is now a part of the hotel, a part of it's history, and a part of it's curse. he was 'brought in'.

The book is also pretty different from the movie, mostly in good ways. A couple of the most famous scenes from the film aren't even in the book at all, so be prepared for that. But some of the most terrifying pieces of the novel aren't all that frightening in the film. It's an interesting trade off. Either way, I think both are fantastic. The book is eerie enough that I had a hard time reading it at night. There's one particular chapter, involving the forbidden room, that is absolutely horrifying.

True story. Stephen King hated the Kubrick version of The Shining, and commissioned a crap-fest made for TV movie to counter it in 1997

Great movie. First time I saw it, the scenes where it showed the kid riding the tricycle down the hallways creeped the hell out of me, cause I didnt know when something/the girls would come out of nowhere

Yeah the book is quite different in plot and detail. For instance, instead of Jack using a fireaxe, the book has him wielding a Croquet mallet. And instead of a huge, hedge maze. The book has four hedges trimed in the shapes of animal. Also the book has much more backstory surrounding almost everyone and thing. Also the ending is almost entirly different.

Love the film. I've never read the book to be honest. It's not that complicated to grasp it really, but it's fantastic, I don't think i've ever feel a film that created as much of a creepy atmosphere. It's a true testiment to "it's not what you show, but how you show it" in horror movies, so many movies spend so much time making big monsters or giant shows of gore, which I do sometimes enjoy, but this doesn't need it, just pure suspense, helped along by fantastic acting and a genius director in Kubrick.

Try reading Stephen King's The Stand (The Complete & Uncut Edition)--That's a rather long read. It has been a while since I've read it but if I remember correctly it was over 1,200 pages. Well worth the time to read though.

The guy in the dog suit. That's my only contribution here.

The 1997 movie did have a more realistic ending to the book but it was never going to beat the original movie.

Twilight is 498 pages. So if a bunch of 12 year old girls can read a story that awful a 500 page Stephen King Novel is a cakewalk.
