I was having a discussion at work this morning & I was stumped. I'm not too familiar with the newer comic books or super heroes, but could someone give an opinion (or two) on who is the most powerful?
It could be DC, Marvel, Image or any other brand.
Wasn't there a villain who was enormous & could eat planets?

I guess it depends on how you want to go about the discussion.
Are we talking about ust heroes/villain on earth, or any comic character ever?
In that case you can start getting into Galactus, the Celestials, Anti-Monitor discussion. Those type of characters usually have battles that we can't see or comprehend with human minds.

The planet eater as Galactus from Marvel Comics. As far as pure power you have many heavy hitters from Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Any Green Lantern, Darksied, Spectre in DC Comics. Galactus, Thanos, Silver Surfer, Sentry, Thor and especially the Hulk in Marvel Comics. In Image Comics you have Spawn, Invincible and Rick from Walking Dead (can anything ever kill Rick?).

Hero: Superman Villain: Thanos w/the Infinity Gauntlet
Galactus is definitely one of the most powerful, but not even he stood a chance against Thanos when he had the Infinity Gauntlet.

Thor </end discussion> He is a freaking immortal god. I mean, Thor did die during Fear Itself. I don't know if he's the 'most powerful' but I think Franklin Richards is definitely up there.

Norse gods are far from immortal and Thor can be killed not to mention how weak he is if he is seperated from his hammer.

I think a strong case could be made for the Scarlet Witch, considering she has the power to alter reality with her mind.

They all return shortly after. By that logic anyone that dies and comes back could be the most powerful... Anyways.. at one point Iceman was the most powerful before they toned his powers down. Scarlet witch as mentioned as wayyyy to powerful. They ruined Xmen actually with house of M Apacolypse is pretty powerful along with Glactus.. Silver Sufer before he lost the comsic ball.. its all apples or oranges.

Everyone's saying Galactus but if you've ever read the Infinity Gauntlet you'd know that even he wasn't as powerful as Thanos when he had the Infinity Gauntlet. Plus Thanos was able to wipe out half the population of the entire universe with just a mere though. How can he not be considered to be the most powerful?

We get it. You read up on Thanos.
Galactus is still the King.

I would think The One Above All (not the Celestial) would be the most powerful. Or the Living Tribunal.

There are several characters in various comics that are just short of being all-powerful dieties like the Living Tribunal, Doctor Manhattan, Malebolgia, Shaper.

I'm going on straight superHEROES!!! DC: If Superman is semi-vulnerable to magic (which he is), and you read Kingdom Come, Captain Marvel is the single most powerful hero. Marvel: I hate to admit it, but Sentry. But because he is a mental case, he would still lose in a fight to most top-level Avengers. And Franklin Richards, but he's still a kid, so we don't know how that's gonna pan out.
