Hello all. If someone can help me with this it would be fantastic. All of a sudden today, My laptop, which is an Acer Aspire by the way.
I saved some pictures of my son off of my facebook onto my computer earlier today and just out of nowhere while watching a video it shut down with no warning. no restart or anything. so I turned it back on and I turned on explorer, it's a blank page. it asks me if I want to restore my session and I do and it freezes the browser.
I x out of it and it wont close. the task manager wont open either. i tried to transfer some pictures to a diffrent folder, first of all it took forever starting and then i canceled it and right now from 30 minutes ago is still cancelling.
I tried to open mcafee and it wont even open at all. I'm doing a defrag right now and its taking forever. so basically in short... Everything is freezing and refusing to open/start. Does anybody have a solution for this?

What I suggest is, reboot it again, then when it restarts open up McAfee, and run a full system virus scan on your computer. Wait for it to finish scanning then hopefully you'd find the problem.
It does sound as if a virus shut down your computer though, do you hold down the power button to turn it off? or do you just switch it off via the shut down button on your computer? I used to switch mine off by holding the power button, then it would just randomly restart.
But you said it didn't restart right? This sounds like a virus, have you downloaded ANYTHING? Or clicked on any website that looks suspicious? I've seen keylogger programs before, and there are options such as: 'Restart computer, Switch off computer' etc...
I recommend not restoring your last web browser session, if you are really bothered about restoring the session then go to your history and just reload the pages from there.
Task Manager froze? right, if you get the opportunity, click processes and check to see if you have two winlogon.exe, If you do... then you've got a keylogger on your computer.
Try running McAfee as administrator? If none of the above works, restart your computer by holding down the power button, then turn it back on and run it in safe mode, and once you are in safe mode... run McAfee and scan your computer for viruses. I also suggest print screening the photos your son has on Facebook... then open up paint and paste the photos in there, then crop and resize... and save.
Good luck!

Ok. Ill try that when I get home. On my phone right now. So if there are 2 winlogon.exe and I run in safemode and run mcafee should that resolve the issue most likly? And what exactly is a key logger? Also' task mngr does not freeze how ever it does not come up any further than showing the little green box in the task bar.

If there is two winlogon.exe then you are pretty much screwed, I don't know much about it but I know its one of the worst computer situations you could be in, just Google how to get rid of it (if you can). Running in safemode is probably the best way, then once you are in that just run McAfee or any other program that cleans your computer, I use Bullguard and its really good.
Keylogger is a program, where it logs everything you type, so lets say you type your email and password into paypal, it will log your email and password, and then it will be on a huge document, and basically the sick people who made the program will be able to log onto your paypal account and... yeah.
I Google'd the Task Manager problem, and people have said, just double click the box? I'm not sure if you've got the same problem as them though... but I'm pretty stuck on the green box thing.

OK.so i got home from work and started it up normally. it seemed fine. got to a couple of sites and it was good, then tried to come to WF and suddenly it just kept loading with the little green circle, then it froze.
tried firefox. froze. opened task manager and tried to end the processes or explorer and firefox and explorer ended but firefox did not.
so i held the power button down, restarted in safe mode with no networking and opened up mcafee. Mcafee opened, i started a fullscan, the little circle started at 0% and then stopped scanning with an error message.
Also, there are NOT 2 winlogon.exe's. thank god.
so,any other help you can provide with this info?

It sounds like your hard drive is shot. It's hitting a point on the drive that is bad when you go to do any of those things such as defrag, Virus Scan, etc.
