Call a pessimist, but with all the recent injuries, I can't seem to get myself hyped for any fights announced a few months in advance.
However, if it does go down, it's a great match-up. It's pretty much a "sink or swim" fight for both guys. On one hand, Rampage has looked like his better days are far behind him. On the other hand, Glover is a hot prospect that still needs to be tested against tough opponents. This is one of those match-ups that could potentially resolve a lot of questions about each guy.
I'm not sure who I'd pick in this one. I still think Rampage is as tough as they come, despite looking just a tad above average in recent years. And regardless of all the hype, as I mentioned above Glover hasn't exactly been facing top tier talent for awhile. My gut tells me Glover will manage to outshine Rampage, but it won't be easy.
Btw, odd side note, I'm sure Mr.Old School would be pleased as pie to know that one of Glovers wins in the last couple of years was against Marcio Cruz. AKA: The guy TKO'd Mir in just his 2nd professional fight. I recall Old School referring to Cruz as "that guy who looks like my neighbor" while talking about how average Mir was for losing the fight. Probably one of the few times Old School actually made me laugh.

hard fight for Rampage....such a damn shame. I honestly felt the guy could have been the MMA version of Tyson...
granite chin, extreme KO power in both hands, good boxing, great wrestling....
and he just kind of gave it up...the Rampage wou trained with Juanito is IMO top 3 LHW even by todays standards....the Rampage that trains with Spitsbing and Cup-Cheick at Wolfslair loses this fight by a large margin...possibly by even tapping due to strikes...

If it is his last fight in the UFC (and I don't think it will be) I'd have preferred a more "marquee" sort of match-up... something like a rematch with Henderson or Shogun (...or even Forrest).

I'll be the first to say it: Rampage goes down in the 2nd.

I think Rampage lost his fire after that high speed chase. It still sounds weird to hear that. But anyways, Rampage leaves the UFC with a loss.

USA TODAY: Frankie Edgar Replaces Erik Koch, Meets Champ José Aldo at UFC 153by John Morgan on Aug 31, 2012 at 12:00 am ET(This story appeared in Friday's edition of USA Today.) Despite a pair of disappointing losses to current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, former titleholder Frankie Edgar (14-3-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC) will now get his shot at history. USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) have learned that an undisclosed injury has forced Erik Koch (13-1, 2-0) to withdraw from a planned UFC 153 title fight with current featherweight champion Jose Aldo (21-1, 3-0), and Edgar has agreed to step into the evening's main event. Edgar now looks to join UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and Hawaiian superstar B.J. Penn as the only men to hold UFC championships in two different weight classes. Now dubbed "UFC 153: Aldo vs. Edgar," the event takes place Oct. 13 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The evening's five-fight main card airs on pay-per-view. On the heels of this weekend's canceled UFC 151 event, UFC President Dana White admitted he was disappointed to learn of Koch's injury. However, one call to Edgar quickly resulted in a turn for the better. "Obviously, we've had a rough couple of weeks here at the UFC, and then sure enough, I walk in to work today, and Erik Koch is hurt," White said. "But Frankie Edgar, being the stud and the warrior that he is, steps up and accepts this fight." The 5-foot-6 Edgar has long been questioned about a potential move to 145 pounds, but with a pair of wins over Penn and two now-legendary bouts with massive lightweight Gray Maynard, "The Answer" ruled the promotion's lightweight division for nearly two years. However, after Edgar's pair of razor-thin losses to Henderson, White urged the New Jersey native to consider a move to the featherweight division. Now that Edgar is making the move, White said he can't wait to see this new championship matchup. "I'm pumped," White said. "I think that people are going to be very excited for this fight. "Frankie has had a tough go the last couple of times with the judges, but a lot of people think he belongs at 145 pounds. Well, here we go – Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar. People have been wanting to see this fight for a long time." Meanwhile, Aldo enters UFC 153 with a 14-fight win streak. Since ruling World Extreme Cagefighting's 145-pound division and moving over to the fellow Zuffa-owned UFC as the promotion's first-ever featherweight champion, the Brazilian phenom has scored successful title defenses over Chad Mendes, Kenny Florian and Mark Hominick. Overall, Aldo is a remarkable 11-0 under the Zuffa banner. A timetable for Koch's return wasn't immediately established.
CRAZY fight! Here's the rest of the card updated: UFC 153 "ALDO VS. EDGAR", 10/13/2012 (PPV/FX/Facebook.com Stream) HSBC Arena, Rio de Janiero Brazil1. hell yes. the top 4 fights are must see. tibau/drinaldo and gonzaga/mondragon should be great as well. but edgar/aldo is totally filthy... so in.
by the way, is the undisclosed injury "we want a fight worth buying"? because they certainly did that.

Yeah, I really don't think Edgar stands a snowballs chance in hell of beating Jose Aldo.

This is going to be Aldos biggest test me thinks. See how Edgar copes with the weight cut though...

Aldo Vs Edgar is awesome... I honestly don't know who I'd pick - it's a pretty 50-50 fight, imo.

I'm glad no one is complaining that Edgar has lost 2 in a row and doesn't deserve it. This is THE fight we've been wanting to see for a long time!
