www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/13/comic-con-neil-gaiman-announces-new-sandman-seriesIn case you haven't heard, Neil Gaiman is returning to The Sandman comic after many years with artist J.H Williams III on board. That screams comic book masterpiece. Having been a young reader of the series and as someone who read years after the series was completed, it's especially great knowing that i'll be able to read The Sandman on a schedule rather than multiple issues in a trade. It adds to the surprise factor. Feel free to share your experiences with this great series.

Holy sh*t! I'm so excited he decided to go back and tell more of Morpheus' story, rather than pick up with Daniels story, or essentially where we ended in like issue 72 or whatever it was when he sat down at the table with the Endless. I have Morpheus and Death tattooed on the inside of my left arm, so to say I'm a fan would be a mild understatement. Unbelievable news and I can't believe he is returning to the series.
I'm pretty sure that I have to go to SDCC next year if he is going to be there signing copies of this, as I have a hardback copy of American Gods I want signed. But I digress, very, very, excited to see his return happening.

As much as I wanted to see the story of Morpheus stretching his powers thin and being captured, this has DC cash grab printed all over it. I have faith Gaiman will write an amazing story, but it kind of comes off as DC trying to get something out there to sell more Sandman trades, Absolutes and Annotateds while Bookstores still boycott them.

To be honest, this was part of my initial feeling as well. This feels like something Gaiman will do for about 12 issues, and then some other creative team will take it over and milk every penny out of it. Although, he was very adamant last time about saying when he was done, so was the ongoing series. But we know DC will sell "Neil Gaiman's Sandman" with writer x_______ in some, or several, capacity, after the run is over.

The idea of an ongoing is also a little laughable. I see this being a maxi series or maybe a year and half as well. No way this lasts beyond two years with the speed DC is trying to move at right now, and Gaiman being a perfectionist. Fan reaction had better be positive and strong or else this series will have a short life.

J.H Williams III is an amazing artist, check out Batwoman or Prometha, it'll blow your mind
