It seems pretty confimred that original plans for the summer of 1993 called for Hulk Hogan to drop the WWF Title to Bret Hart at SummerSlam. If plans had gone as scheduled, I would assume Hogan retains the title against Yokozuna at King of the Ring while Bret wins the tournament, setting up the SummerSlam match. My question is, how would this have effected Yokozuna's career?
Yoko had an almost year long reign as champion after taking the title back from Hogan at KOTR, and never had a real rematch with Hart until Mania10 (and never had an actual feud with him). How would Yoko have looked after losing to Hogan at WM9 in 20 seconds, then losing to him again at KOTR. Where would he have gone from there? Do you think he would have been as dominant a character as he was had Hogan dropped the title to Hart instead?
I guess the case could be made that he could have then been Brets first major feud for the title after SummerSlam (though it seemed a Luger/Hart feud was being hinted at around WM9 so it could also have been him), but Yko would probably have had to job to Bret as well in that feud. I think it would have drastically changed his career path.

I think Yoko vs. Lex Luger would have still happened at SummerSlam, just not for the WWE Title.
Also, was the King of the Ring created to give Bret a rub as being the man still?? Cause even though Yoko won the title that night off of Hogan, the whole ppv still seemed to set around Bret Hart.

Yes, I think Yoko would have lost a lot of steam after losing to Hogan twice. And just like most Hogan opponents, he would have floundered in the mid card for awhile before eventually leaving. And I don't think we would have gotten Yoko vs Luger at Summerslam... I'm not sure Luger would have turned face. I think that only happened because Vince was trying to replace Hogan. So the match would most likely have never happened. Then I think Luger would have been the top heel going after Bret. Shame we'll never know, cause I for one would love to have seen Bret defeat Hogan cleanly. But of coarse this is Hogan we're talking about.  |

He would have likely went to the mid-card for a while. I could see him feuding with Hart after Summerslam. Also, they could have still done the whole Undertaker feud without the title. Luger was a Hogan replacement, don't think he would have turned babyface. Also, would have been an opponent for Hart.

Bret should have went over Yoko at Wrestlemania 9. If not, then put Yoko over with salt and set up a re-match against Bret at King of the Ring.
Bret wins at King of the Ring.
Then Bret beats Hogan at Summerslam. Yoko can fight Luger here.

Would it really have been that hard for Hogan to put Hart over at least once? I mean WWE makes the guy a household name and yet he leaves them with nothing. No passing of the torch, just a big F.U. to Vince.

He didn't even appear on Raw between Mania and KOTR. |

^ I never understoof brining Hogan back in 93 either. He had two tag matches with Beefcake, beat Yoko, dropped the title back to Yoko, then disappeared.
They should have just had Bret go over Yokozuna at Mania and cemented him as "the guy" of the New Generation. Or, better yet, gone through with plans to have Bret go over Macho Man at Mania and hold off on the Yoko feud for SummerSlam or later (if they had went with a Hart/Luger fued for the summer of 93). The Hogan debacle only postponed the "New Geneation". I think he really could have helped be a cog for the WWF at the time at ushering in the new blood and being an over face that helped put a few guys over, but this is Hogan we're talking about so we know that wouldnt have happened.

Yeah and Vince wasted him in feuds with Pirates and Dentists so he could try to create new stars when he already had the best worker of all time (imo) on his roster.

From 92-96, Bret was THE MAN. Bret was the man from the end of 92 right through to the end of 97. Even when they were pushing Shawn, Yoko, Luger, Diesel or anyone else. Bret was still the top draw. I would easily say that Bret saved the WWE from going under during those years. |

I would easily say that Bret saved the WWE from going under during those years. Bret deserves no credit for 96 what so ever. I hate when people say he carried the WWF from 92 to 97. He may have been the guy that spent the most time on top but he was always THE guy and especially not in 96. The only people that deserve credit for carrying the WWF in 96 IMO are Shawn, Taker and Mankind. In 96 the WWF lost two key players in Hall and Nash and what did Bret do? He decided to take a break when the company possibly needed him the most.........If anything all he did in 96 was help WCW gain momentum by not being there when the WWF seriously needed top stars. |

hard to say where this would have left Yoko......
1)The Luger turn only happened because Vinnie wanted to replace the "orange skinned" one.
2)Hogan leaving is really what resulted in Yokos push.....
without either of the above happeing I dont think he really would have went anywhere IMO.Hogan beats him at KOTR and thats all she wrote....
