I just got around to watching this last night. Most of the movie was great.. right up until the final fight scene. The pig things annoyed me, because they weren't fair and basically ruined the whole concept of survival of the fittest, because the controllers were determining who won and lost, by sicking those creatures on contestants they didn't like. When they were up on the platform, I was really annoyed. I wanted Catniss to shoot the douche, send them both off, and move along. It really felt like that was the way it was originally written, then they rewrote it and tacked on the sub plot with the berries and "them not being happy" which led NO WHERE. For 2 hours, I loved this movie. The final few minutes, it royally jumped the shark.

I hated it. So predictable, terrible action sequences and way overlong. The acting was decent, as was the production design. Other than that, it was awful.

Hated the concept of this film since I saw the 1st trailer. Instantly thought battle royale rip off. I ended up seeing it, I will admit I did enjoy the build up, up until the start of the game. Game was a pale imitation of a Battle Royale, here in the UK it was 12a and I recently saw a competition for a screening of a certificate 15 version of the movie, I don't see it being much different, I read they removed blood from the weapons in the original.
Story good but predictable (hadn't read a single HG book but it was obvious the couple were both making it to the end). Action bad.

As a fan of the book before I saw the movie, I was thoroughly impressed with how the film was handled. Actually, I loved it. The fact remains, though, that there was too much story to tell and too much violence in the novel to truly get everything right in the film.
Unfortunately, one of the things that took the biggest hit was the final battle scene. I won't the major significance of the hybrid dogs in the book, but it does have more meaning and jump into more detail than the quick, seemingly random scene in the film did.

I liked it but hated the camera work, it was rather poor.

I liked it but hated the camera work, it was rather poor. If one of your gripes was the shaky camera during the battle scenes, there was actually a reason for it - it was a way to imply the violence and show some blood without actually committing to deaths on camera. I know that isn't an excuse, because it truly was jarring at times, but at least it wasn't done for nothing. As I've said before, the make the movie correctly, it would have had to have an R rating, but that was obviously impossible.

I loved the movie, but I'm a fan of the books (I don't know if you read them), so there may be bias there. I will agree, the final fight scene kinda pissed me off, because those creatures at the end had real significance, I don't know why out of all the things to sacrifice why it was significant, it was the final fight scene. I think the ending scene of the movie made up for it, because it's an excellent way to transition to Catching Fire almost immediately.

It seems like almost every scene was filmed with the shaky cam. Plus, Jennifer Lawrence, who is actually a halfway decent actress, looks pretty bored with her role in this. She phones in so much of her dialogue.

I actually liked the movie better than the book. When I read the book, I had no idea what it was about and who it was about. But, when you read just the first 2 pages, you already know who wins. It's written in First person and telling it, is Katniss. After I found that out, I didn't really get that suspenseful and be all like "OMG, OMG, WHO'S GOING TO WIN? "

No need for the camera bouncing all around during a quiet dialogue scene. I almost puked during the opening scene as well.

It's written in First person and telling it, is Katniss. After I found that out, I didn't really get that suspenseful and be all like "OMG, OMG, WHO'S GOING TO WIN? " To be fair, though, it was written it first person present tense, rather than past tense. Everything that she tells us is happening to her at that point in time. She is not reflecting upon the events after the fact. So theoretically, she could have died at any we would've experienced it along with her. It's unlikely that it would happen like that, but the possibility is there. Coincidentally, that choice in tense was one aspect of the books that irritated me, because the author really shot herself in the foot with it by the third book. And I really appreciated the film's ability to take us away from Katniss' point of view and show us things that we could never have seen in the books. It is because of this that I believe I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. As for Ash's complaint about the last scene of the games themselves: The thing about the guys in the control room is that they are producing a TV show. This event is being broadcast much like a reality show would, which is why they're constantly affecting what goes on inside the arena. They want the show to be as exciting as possible so that viewers tune in, so they throw in twists (like changing the number of potential winners mid-game) and obstacles that will keep the contestants fighting. The last thing they want is a boring show, so they don't want everyone just hiding out in the woods. So they try to draw people together as much as possible.
As for the creatures at the end, they were much more significant in the book. I don't remember exactly how it was done, but it was something to the extent of they had taken all of the dead tributes and mutated them into these vicious, wolf-like creatures. That's the gist at least. Instead, in the movie we got random giant pitbulls.

How exactly did you watch it last night when it comes out tomorrow? I've got a lot of connections within the media, and was given a pre-release copy of the DVD. Full retail DVD, just a bit before it was on shelves. I get a fair few movies on pre-release. Benefits of knowing powerful people, and being willing to do a bit of grunt work when asked to, I suppose.

This film has been available for weeks if you know where to look, average film with poor camera work and pansy actions scenes. Want to watch a film with a similar concept but which goes balls out with action and gives you what it advertises then please cheek out battle Royale, its about 10 years old now but its great.

Keeping in mind that it's a ban-able offense to talk about online streaming sites, where do you suppose this was available that I would "need to know where to look" for it? On topic, I'm amazed at how many comments I see on this film by people who clearly haven't read the book. Which is unfortunate, because there are so many things where you literally HAD to read the book first to know what was going on. That's my biggest gripe about this movie; that they cut out very important plot points.
