www.slashfilm.com/jurassic-park-3d-rerelease-set-summer-2013/Briefly: Wasn’t it just months ago that Steven Spielberg seemed to have moved beyond the idea of tinkering with old movies? At a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark last year, Spielberg said he regretted digitally altering E.T., and suggested that future home video releases of that and Raiders would be their original ’81 and ’82 versions. But we’re still going to get a 3D version of Jurassic Park. The film was just dated for re-release today, and will hit theaters on July 19, 2013 according to Jeff Sneider of Variety. Spielberg did also say last year that the only one of his films he’s interested in post-converting to 3D is the original Jurassic Park. But at that point, it seemed like only an idea. Granted, if done well, the experience could be a good one, but without seeing any footage there’s no way to tell at this point. We’ve got no info on when the first 3D footage might show up, but Comic Con is a safe guess. ------------------------------------ As long as nothing is truly changed and it's only a 3D enhancement, I'll be happy. I think it'd be a fun experience, especially since I originally saw it in the theater when I was in third grade. It'd definitely be a nostalgic experience.

I couldn't care less about it being in 3D, but there's something about the idea of seeing Jurassic Park in a movie theater...
I was a bit young at the time, and I always wished I could have gone, looks like this will be my chance.

Talk about taking me back. I remember seeing this with my 1st cousin and my 2nd cousin in the theatre when it came out. Wow. I'm all for this. Not even for the 3D, but simply for the experience. Awesome news.

More than anything, this is probably an attempt to measure true interest in a fourth film...
Having said that, this is great news!! I've seen it in theaters, but man..imagine the part where Newman gets spit on by the dilophosaurus - that and the goat scene will be epic in 3D

They've been talking about a fourth film for years now. Also the T-Rex jeep chase scene is going to be amazing in 3D.

I'll go see it again. I actually love seeing stuff like this, Indy, Fight Club, Star Wars, Matrix, Blade Runner, any time they get replayed in the theater. The theater in Boca does flashback movies and I think Jaws is playing this month. I'm not really a big proponent of 3D but I suppose it couldn't hurt. 3D just seems like a way to charge more for tickets at this point. I know it's a big deal internationally though and that is why the studios press to do it now.

3D is overrated. The only film I've seen which I thought the 3D actually added to the film was Avatar. So I won't be seeing this. Still, JP1 is a great film so at least the 3D rerelease will allow new people to discover the film.
And on the subject of JP1, if anyone doesn't already know, John Hammond's scottish accent that COMPLETELY DISAPPEARS after the first part of the film is a hilariously bad mistake. Can't believe I only noticed this recently.

Well thanks to this 3D garbage, Hollywood's figured out way to make even more money off of older movies.

Well thanks to this 3D garbage, Hollywood's figured out way to make even more money off of older movies. There's a lot of people that believe a 3D film is not garbage and they find it a lot more immersing. I read this quote from Martin Scorsese a while back. “I would have practically done all my films in 3D. There is something that 3D gives to the picture that takes you into another land and you stay there and it’s a good place to be. (…) It’s like seeing a moving sculpture of the actor and it’s almost like a combination of theater and film combined and it immerses you in the story more. I saw audiences care about the people more. The minute it started people wanted three things: color, sound and depth. You want to recreate life.” ― Martin Scorsese
