Yeah, I'm on both sides of the fence on this one. On one end, I KNOW that Jones is talented enough to have accepted this fight and won. He should've. But on the other hand, Sonnen can be a game changer no matter who he steps in with. Jones has ALOT more to lose in that fight than Sonnen does. So I don't think the decision of whether to fight Chael or not is the no brainer people would like to believe. But the bottom line is that the fans want a champ who will defend his title against all challengers at any time. Jon Jones has just proven that he's not that champion, and will look like the bad guy for doing so.YES! I can see both sides and reasonings, but in the end, the positives for taking the fight outweigh the reasons not to fight...

Jones needs to come forward with his own words. Not so much for the fans, but he's got fighters who lost a payday that would also like an explanation.

Wow, they cancel the whole thing? Whether or not you think Jones is a douche for not taking the fight, Chael getting an instant title shot at 205 is pathetic.
But now Machida is getting another title shot after one win? I guess he's going to be making a permanent move to 185 after Jones beats him again.

Change the title of the thread, please. 'UFC 151 cancelled, Jones refuses Sonnen fight.' I never liked Jones. Ugh. This mother er. How's that?

I actually respect Sonnen for an eternity after hearing he would get in a plane to Vegas that night. He is more than a man. Fearless.
Always liked Jon Jones but what type of champion turns down fights? Such a f*cking moron. Chael did 0% training and Jones had been training for months (not necessarily for Sonnen obviously)

It hurts to say that the term "ducking" no longer applies to prize fighting.
If they (the UFC) wanna run with it though, this does set up a big money fight down the line between the two. Whether it applies to Jon appropriately or not, the question "Is he afraid of Chael" won't go away until they fight.

Ill admit, after watching this I've gained a ton of respect for Sonnen. The fact that he was willing to give up his purse to JBJ just so the undercard can get paid has won a fan in me.

Look, do I understand why Bones declined? Sort of...
BUT!
At the end of the day, Jones needed to do what was right for the sport of MMA. I get the impression that Dana told him "if you turn this down, we have to cancel the card," and Jones was selfish and turned it down anyway, screwing over everyone else on the card and the UFC front office.
Yes, a big chunk of the hate on Jones right now is for turning down the fight with Sonnen, but another big part of it is the repercussions of him turning down the fight and the effect it has had.

Eh, while I don't agree with what Jones did hopefully this is an eye opener that the UFC can't keep putting on ppv cards that are one match cards. There is no reason to cancel a card especially so close to it and people do have the right to not accept a short notice fight.

Apparently it's now Jones vs. Belfort at 152 because Machida turned down the fight. What the is going on?

I think people are being a little hard on Bones... it sounds as though Greg Jackson is more to blame - I mean, how many fighters in Jones' position would take a short-notice change of opponent when their coach is advising them absolutely not to and saying it would be the biggest mistake of their entire career? Dana White even said Jackson's advice was exactly why Jones didn't take the fight.
And I'm wondering if it was made clear to Jones/Jackson when they were offered the fight, that by turning it down it would directly lead to the show being cancelled... from listening to the interview Jackson did with Mauro Ranallo, it sounds as though it wasn't (especially the comments made between 5:50 - 7:00)...

Wow, after hearing that Jackson sounds like the kind of person who is afraid of everything, and that stuff about not knowing one fight selling the event is bullcrap. Look at the promotion, ads and everything else and see who is being used. Jackson probably told him the fight was a bad idea as he had no information of knowledge of Sonnen and in turn lose another title belt.
The flipside is Jackson sees this not as a sport in the sense of athletic accomplishment and action but rather as a business and he needs championship holding fighters to make money and keep the flow of top level young talent coming to him. Then again his strategies and game plans have been hit and miss of late. When Guida gets booed for putting on a boring fight that is going to make you lose some of your reputation.

Belfort now??? Doesn't that solution really make it look like Jones wants no part of Sonnen??

If they couldn't make Jones/Sonnen work to save 151, then why didn't they just do Jones/Sonnen for 152? I don't get it.

Its funny, all 185'ers(Weidman apparently, Sonnen, Belfort) all stepped up to fight Bones. Anderson said he'd do a 205 fight. All 205'ers denied a fight with Bones.
