So I'm on Twitter & Todd Grisham retweeted this guy @patmiletich who wrote the following:
"4 all the athiests out there: Christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas christmas"
To which I retorted:
"Atheists can still celebrate Christmas"
Which is true, Christmas was initially a Pagan holiday until Christians hijacked it, it never had anything to do with Christianity beforehand.
And he quote tweeted me this:
"@chrissyy2k12: Atheists can still celebrate Christmas" Congrats are in order. You just won the most moronic tweet of the day award.
Can someone explain to me how I'm the moron in this situation? All I'm doing is pointing out facts. From my point of view, this guy seems really uneducated.
I replied to that tweet with the following & am awaiting a reply:
It was originally a Pagan celebration before Christians hijacked it. Prove me wrong that Atheists can't & don't celebrate it. @patmiletich
@patmiletich Ask Richard Dawkins if he celebrates Christmas. Try & educate yourself a little more.
What's your take on it?

I don't see why anyone couldn't celebrate Christmas, or could be offended or angered by the word, for that matter.
Christmas doesn't have to be a spiritual religious holiday. It can be whatever you want it to be.
My family isn't religious in the least bit, particularly me, but we celebrate Christmas. It's a tradition and a great opportunity to get together with family members that we rarely see throughout the year. Nothing more, nothing less. It has absolutely no religious meaning to me whatsoever.

I think the biggest accomplishment you should see is that Pat Miletich is acknowledging you.

Don't feed the trolls.
I don't exactly celebrate Christmas but I have never treated it as a religious holiday. It's always been a giving of gifts and a Christmas dinner thing for me.
If you're religious yourself then fair enough, do what you want.

Christmas is more of a celebration of his birth more than an actual birthday, if that makes any sense, since we have no clue when he was actually born. The date was chosen based on the winter solstice, not on what anyone believed his birthday was.

Yeah anyone can celebrate Christmas, maybe not call it that, I don't know. To most people it is about the gifts/dinner, etc and not so much Jesus.
And of course like most Christian Holidays it was originally Pagan, but Christians began celebrating such around it like you said. Christian or not, if you want to celebrate the day great, if you choose not to fine. Best time of the year around here.

I'm in no way religious, but always enjoy Christmas. It's about seeing family that you don't see much any other time. I never relate Jesus and Christmas.

Trust me starting a fight with an atheist is bad thing. Things can get ugly really quick. By the way I am not an atheist.

christmas was a pagan holiday.
the pagans celebrated the winter solstice on dec 21
the christains didnt liek that so they "made" christmas and put it around the same time to over shadow the pagans.
jesus was supposedly born in april or august anyways.

I don't care what it's about, I like spending quality time with my family, giving them thoughtful gifts to put a smile on their faces (which is very rewarding even for those of us who aren't materialistic at all), and getting thoughtful gifts.
I didn't even read what the guy said.

I'm an Atheist and I celebrate Christmas. I don't particularly care for the religious aspect, obviously, but there are non religious aspects about it as well. So there's no reason why atheists can't enjoy it as well.

Everybody has their own opinion, and if you question somebody else's they'll feel attacked and retort. That being said, you have to consider how many stupid people you see on a daily basis...and then consider that there are millions of other people like that in the world. I work in retail; I see these people daily. Some of the most moronic things are said and done.

I believed in god a few years ago while celebrating Christmas. I became an atheist about a year ago and still celebrated Christmas. Nothing changed.

Christmas has nothing absolutely nothing to do with Christians, in fact most of them don't know that it was a pagan holiday and they think all atheists like myself are dumb. Now i am only talking about the extremist who tell me im going to hell because i don't believe in their so called god.
