Isn't the story that Hogan and Flair were not clicking at all at house shows so they just decided to go with Flair/Savage and Hogan/Justice.

Because Hogan was leaving after WM8, it wouldn't have made sense to put the belt on him.

Apparently they weren't drawing as well in house shows as they originally believed they would together. There's also the rumour of 'backstage politics', but the story is the house show numbers.
Originally supposed to be Hogan/Flair, Savage/Roberts and Sid/Undertaker. While I would've liked to see Hogan/Flair, and also felt Savage/Roberts should've had the blowoff to their feud at Wrestlemania, Flair & Savage had a great match at Wrestlemania.

There's been many reasons given to why it never happened. The most popular ones are...
1)Hogan-Flair never drew @ House Shows
2)It was in Sids contract to Main Event vs Hogan
3)Hogan threw it on Vince he was leaving and since Vince likes to "send people home happy" it wouldnt have worked out.
4)Their egos were too big and it was "rumored" neither were willing to do the job.
Now honestly, out of all of those that I listed. 3 & 4 seem the most possible. Honestly I believe 3 more true then 4 as Flair never had a problem jobbing out people in his entire career. I honestly dont buy the Sid contract thing and in recent years a lot of footage has come out (on youtube and dailymotion) of Flair-Hogan matches at House shows and the crowds were ELECTRIC HOT!! Not sure if they're still available but someone posted a match in Oakland and then 2 nights later in San Francisco and the crowds were unreal. Then there's been many matches from MSG. There were also a few tag matches as well that were pretty over so to me, that cancels out the "not drawing" theory because Hogan-Sid was one of the most boring ass main events in Mania history.

Flair never had a problem jobbing out people in his entire career. That's not true. He didn't want to put Bret over for the title.

Would've been a hard match to end. Either Hogan wins the title and leaves, vacating it for the second time in a few months... Or the WCW guy wins and beats the WWF guy. Although they ended up doing a crappy DQ finish anyway, so they could've just done that in a Hogan vs Flair match and had Warrior's return still send people home happy.

Vince probably didn't want Flair walking out of Wrestlemania as the champion.

In the end, I'm glad it turned out the way it did. I have mentioned before that savage/flair is one of my top 3 fave matches of all time. I loved mr perfect's role in that rivalry. That hogan/sid match was doomed from the ring of the bell. both are terrible workers and wrestle like they are standing in pudding. you throw in the fact that shango missed his cue and the whole thing was a disaster.
my real problem is the way WM9 ended. Hogan just had to win the belt didn't he? had to hog the spotlight. bret to this day hates that that happend.

Hogan attacked Sid Vicious in a hotel room with a pair of scissors. It was only a rib, but WWE overreacted and prevented the match from happening IIRXC.

Hogan and Flair would have been the biggest main event in Wrestlemania history. By the time we got the big match two years later it felt watered down. Probably due to the celebrity attachment and the fact that WCW booking was sh**.

Probably due to the celebrity attachment and the fact that WCW booking was sh**. Rock/Hogan, Hogan/Warrior, Savage/Hogan, Cena/Rock were all FAR bigger main events than Hogan/Flair would have been.

man why didnt you post this in the classic board?it clearly belongs there. Sorry didnt think. From what ive read its interesting to know Hogan and Flair wasnt a great draw at house shows because that was back when they both top guys. I just seen some clips from the dvd true story of wrestlemania and they touch on it in that. Hard to believe.

The video quality is super poor. Im convinced it's actually Betamax LOL. But listen to the crowd. I have a hard time believing that they had many matches that were "dull" or "boring" for that time... Flair never had a problem jobbing out people in his entire career. That's not true. He didn't want to put Bret over for the title. Assuming everything Bret Hart says about Ric Flair is true is like saying everything Michael Hayes says about black people is politically correct.

Considering when you watch the match back you can see Flair being unprofessional and break Bret's fingers, and with Flair's track record for lying and Bret's track record for telling the truth. I would certainly believe Bret over Flair.

And just which matches are these? Bret has stated on record his matches (when Flair was champion) were fantastic and when he became champion they "sucked". He of course blames it on Flair. On youtube there are 3 Hart-Flair matches. 1)Where Bret wins the title. Decent match. 2)Iron Man Match from Boston Garder......another decent match and then against each other before '93 Rumble....again, another decent match. So I guess its safe to assume that all these "bad matches" Bret bitches about just happen to have no footage of? How convenient! Bret was no different then any other wrestler from his generation, whether it was Flair, Hogan, Warrior, Savage or whomever....if he ever felt his "spot" threatened, he bitched, whined and complained to try and help his standing. Just as everyone did. That's why they say wrestling is just like politics.
