The Main Event ~ Number One Contenders Battle Royal
Yukio Blaze vs. ZMaster vs. Joe Bishop vs. Cameron Stone vs. Scarlett Quinn vs. Cam Nitta vs. Devilkiller
Last week the number one contenders tournament began in style. Through seven matches, a combination of singles, tag team and a triple threat contest, these seven competitors overcame their opponents and gained themselves a spot in the final. Of course that was the easy bit, because out of the seven involved only one can book themselves a spot in the WFWF World Championship match in just three weeks’ time. Be it established veterans looking for one more run at the top such as Yukio Blaze and ZMaster, solid talents looking to break through the glass ceiling like National Champion Joe Bishop, Cameron Stone and Cam Nitta or rookies like Scarlett Quinn and Devilkiller who have the opportunity to make the biggest splash possible all seven of these fine competitors have a reason to win this, not to mention the fact that the winner will take the third spot in the triple threat match alongside Phillip Schneider and Mak Cross.
Let the battle commence!
The Champion’s In Action
Phillip Schneider vs. Braden Munroe
Last week Phillip Schneider was on the losing end of a massive upset as Mak Cross defeated him to book himself a spot in the WFWF World Championship match at the upcoming pay per view. As we saw after that match, in a scene that still makes many a man’s eyes water, Schneider certainly wasn’t too happy at that result and he’ll be looking to bounce back in a brutal way. Enter Braden Munroe, the returning comic book hero who also came up short last week in tag team action against the odd team of Trace Demon and Yukio Blaze. Since then little has been heard from Braden, though our sources tell us he’s spent his time searching for a way to boost his power level above 9000! Hopefully he managed it, because it’s the only way he’s going to stand a chance against Phillip Schneider who is likely to be more focused than ever heading into Albuquerque.
Tag Team Action
Mak Cross & Carter Contra vs. Justin Tyme & Mickey Donovan
Last week on Revolution one of these men got possibly the biggest victory of his career while the other three… well it wasn’t so great. Mak Cross walked into Denver, Colorado knowing that a victory over Phillip Schneider would book him a shot at the WFWF World Champion and he did exactly that. Now it’s all about momentum and he’ll look to build that when he teams up with fan favourite Carter Contra. The always entertaining Contra couldn’t find that button combo that would have led him to victory last week but he’ll be looking to do so here against two opponents who also came up short. One of those men he has already met, Mickey Donovan being a third man in that triple threat match last week while Justin Tyme just couldn’t find the magic touch to defeat Cam Nitta upon his return. Of course under the Xavier Pierce regime two men who lost individually could have the chance to pick up a big victory as a team. There will be arguments, there will be misunderstandings, there might even be a few video game references, but one thing there certainly will be is wrestling!
Another Champion’s In Action
Trace Demon vs. Tommy Staxx
Trace Demon shouldn’t be here, that isn’t our words, it’s his. Last week Trace Demon was part of the winning team in a contenders tournament match, everybody including your mother thought he’d booked his spot in the battle royal only for Xavier Pierce to whip the rug out beneath him by announcing that only Yukio Blaze would advance. Trace Demon wasn’t a big fan of that decision, laying out Yukio and promising that Xavier would live to regret this. Before he can get to that however he’ll be facing off with Tommy Staxx. Last week Staxx had the opportunity to face off with someone a little more his speed in Cameron Stone (sorry guys, we’re just running with the theme) but now his back is right up against the wall once again as he faces off with the International Champion. A win here would almost guarantee him not only a future International Championship match but also a spot in Xavier Pierce’s good book. That alone makes this one a potential show stealer.
Two Returns in One
Shawn Malakai vs. Reckless
Over the past few weeks Shawn Malakai and Reckless, two men who have a lot of history here in the WFWF, have made their presences known on WFWF without actually being in action. Shawn Malakai appeared to have allied himself with Ripp Jackson, acting as a sort of mentor figure for the struggling star, only to brutally attack Ripp last week and put him on the shelf for an unknown period of time. Reckless meanwhile has been targeting the current National Champion Joe Bishop making it clear that he intends to force Bishop to show him a little bit of respect. Now this week in Albuquerque both men step back into the ring in a match that promises to showcase exactly why these two veterans feel capable of another run here in the WFWF.
We’re Not Sexist, We Promise
Valorie Evans vs. Penny Shannon
Penny Shannon is not a name that many people in the WFWF will have ever heard of, but despite that she has close ties with the current roster. The self-professed “Velocity Grrrl” is a head trainer at Trace Demon’s wrestling school, with the International Champion personally vouching for her skills, and also the current trainer for one Scarlett Quinn. Penny’s biggest problem with the wrestling business is the way they stick women against each other and away from the men… uh oh. Last week Valorie Evans came up short against Scarlett Quinn in her return match and now she has an even tougher opponent ahead and with little time to prove that she still belongs here in the WFWF she’ll have to bring everything she has to this match. It’s two women, yes, but also two fantastic competitors here in the WFWF going on one one.
Rookie Showcase
Leo Krause vs. Lionheart
In a time when the WFWF roster is going through so much upheaval every single match is important, even the opener. It’s an opportunity for young talent to showcase their skills and prove that they deserve to be considered future main eventers. Last week Leo Krause was unable to pick up the victory in his first ever WFWF Championship match, putting up a good showing against Joe Bishop. Now he has to prove himself all over again as he takes on the debuting Lionheart. Lionheart previously was set to debut here in the WFWF one year ago only for an injury to put him out of action. Now he finally will make in his ring debut here in the WFWF. A win would immediately put him in the spotlight, a loss could make him just another rookie who failed to prove themselves. Even though it’s the opener, there’s a lot on the line.
