With many posts lately about Wrestlemania, and the possibly of a Rock vs Cena rematch, I got to thinking about the reasons why, in my opinion, having a rematch between them is a bad business decision.
1. Last years match was promoted as "Once in a Lifetime" meaning its only going to happen once. A rematch will throw away that significance and possibly the importance of any future "Once in a Lifetime" matches, because fans may just assume a rematch will take place.
2. People believe "Cena needs to get his win." No, Cena doesn't "need" to beat The Rock. I know some people are upset that The Rock won, but just because he did, doesn't mean they need to have a rematch with Cena going over. The loss to The Rock was good for business because it sent the hometown crowd home happy and proved that "Super Cena" is beatable, giving hope to others that they have a chance to beat Cena and ad a huge boost to their career.
3. Unpredictability will not exist this time. With the WM28 match, you had no idea who was going to win, if a rematch is booked, everyone will expect Cena to win, and he most likely will. That could hurt business because not as many people are going to order a PPV to watch a match they saw a year ago with most likely a predictable outcome.
I said even before last years match that I didn't want to see a rematch and am sticking to that statement. I don't know what WWE has planned for Rock and Cena at Wrestlemania, but I hope that they make a smart business decision, in my opinion, and book them against other opponents.

Hopefully they're going the Rock/Cena/Punk route. I'd order Mania just for that match alone.

For this part, any of Undertaker's rematches at Wrestlemania have always been "Must-Sees" for me, even though we all knew that the streak wasn't going to end.

I don't necessarily think that Once in a Lifetime happening a second time would be bad business. The target market WWE goes for will be glad to see it happening again and feel lucky that it is. It'll generate just as much, if not more interest a second time around. "Super Cena" often loses matches, that phrase hasn't been relevant in years. John Cena should absolutely go over the Rock at Wrestlemania, it's the right decision. Rock got his hometown win, now Cena gets it back. In fact, that'll probably set up for Rock/Cena III, which again; will do good business.

Its Wrestlemania, they could have 4 hours of chickens running around in the ring...It would still sell. (ok not literally but you get my point)

I agree with all points and want to add that i think it would happen because i don't think there will be Punk vs Rock II, but there is a problem with rock winning it because he wont be attending live events and every raw and if he wins maybe they could do Rock vs Brock

I don't think having a rematch would hinder any sells for WrestleMania at all, simply because it's WrestleMania. Even if someone isn't interested in seeing that match, there's bound to be something else on the card that does capture their interest.

Well it was once in a life time at wm28, and was scheduled & promoted all year long, but if the right circumstances line up, and Rock wins title from Punk at rumble, and Cena wins the rumble he gets to choose who he faces...i mean if Cena wins and Vince come out and says "John u can't fight Rock because last years WM match was once in a life time" that's just silly. Or someone else wins rumble chooses to face SD champ & Cena wins EC, then he has to face Rock.

It was called "once in a lifetime" for a reason. As much as I'd love to see Cena face Rock again, it would devalue their first match completely. Insert Punk, make it a Triple Threat. Rock vs Cena II is like Ric Flair going back on his word and coming out of retirement. It can't happen. Actually, that did happen.

Mmmm, my only fault with Cena vs Rock II is that Cena will most likely NEED to win, but then that would prompt a third and final "rubber" match. It'd still attract sales, but diminish the prestige of their initial match perhaps.

Just don't have Rock on the show at all. Problem solved.

No matter which route they take be it Rock/Cena, Rock/ Punk or Rock/Cena/Punk... the build-up will be amazing. Especially since this time we don't have to wait a year for anything to happen. I'm really looking forward to the Rumble to see how everything starts unfolding. After that PPV, I'm sure we'll be able to pretty much predict the rest of the WM card.
