Not sure if anyone discussed this in the Raw thread, probably so, but does anyone see this Barrett thing as a way to bring up Richie Steamboat from NXT?
From what I remember, Ricky can no longer work after his aneurysm and Santino obviously couldn't defend his honor. Seems like an interesting feud to have someone step up and defend the Legends honor and start building a solid IC feud.
We've seen legacy guys fail for not enough connection with their famous dads, but they have always pushed Richie through Ricky in FCW/NXT. Seems like the right move to help launch him if you ask me. Now, it very well could be someone else entirely, or this may not play out at all, but that's the first thing I thought when I saw that happen last night.

I didn't even make that connection; but that would be AWESOME if they decided to go that route.

No more debuts. We've had more than enough recently.

No more debuts. We've had more than enough recently. I agree with Anvil Fan on this one. Though it would be a great idea to do, they should focus more on solidifying Barrett as a great champion and putting him up against someone that just debuted (supposing they brought up Richie Steamboat) wouldn't do that. I would love to see Wade Barrett go up against some established guys like Christian, Mark Henry or even bring in William Regal for a rub. The WWE should push Barret to the damn moon and establish him as a next top guy.

I totally thought of this as soon as I saw Steamboat last night. It would be a great way to bring his son up to Raw.
But didn't he debut at Wrestlemania IV?

I don't see Wade Barrett becoming a major player in the company. There's just nothing about him that screams out "People are going to pay money to see this man..." Ever. That's just my personal opinion and he may prove me wrong one day, but until then, I just don't see it.

RICHIE Steamboat ("the Little Dragon") was brought out at WMIV and displayed before the crowd by Ricky prior to his losing match against Greg the Hammer Valentine, then taken to the back by his wife at the time, Bonnie. So technically, lol, yeah, he did debut at WMIV! Wars

Is Steamboat's kid any good? In ring, yeah he is imo. He's kind of flat in the character department but he's become a pretty skilled performer at this point. His stuff with Rollins and the FCW 15 Championship was all very good. I don't think I've seen him have a bad match with anyone in NXT. I'm concerned for his character though, which is why I think it would be great to have his dad help launch him. I assumed he was going to be part of a tag team if he got brought up, but this thing with Ricky has presented an interesting opportunity imo. Not something I was expecting if it turns out to be the case.

Is Steamboat's kid any good? He has had some excellent matches in FCW and NXT (including a 30 minute Iron Man match against Antonio Cesaro). He's not his dad, so if you don't expect that he's a heck of a talent. On to the topic: I can't wait to see what Ritchie does on the main shows, but I'm not sure this is the way to debut him. I'm in the middle though. If they do it,I'll be glad to see him.If they don't,I'll be fine to wait.

I think that Steamboat needs to find a character and some charisma before he moves up to tv.

I could see Ricky coming to the ring for the next several weeks with random faces who are going to go against Barrett, but Wade beats all of them. Eventually, Steamboat brings out his son, & he'll pull off one of those "Shelton Benjamin defeats Triple H" victories for a few weeks in a row to establish him.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night. Would've been an awesome debut, too.

But, I also have to point out that Ricky Steamboat wrestled at WM1 against Matt Bourne.

I'd like to see them push Barrett and keep him as IC champion for a few months, beating guys like Christian, Miz, Kofi, but have The Dragon always kinda sub feuding with him (Like Punk and Foley) then eventually when Barrett is ready to go for the main event, have Richie come up coached by his dad to take the IC title.

id like to see it like this. weeks of barrett taunting steamboat until hes had enough and agrees to a match. "steamboat" vs barrett for IC title. night of match: Barrett enters ring first. then Rickey comes out in civilian clothes, then reveals "yes wade, you are facing steamboat tonight, but his name is richie" out comes his son. Wins via DQ after a solid match. wade nearly loses title but whacks kid with belt for dq and save his title. for now.
