I never thought I would post this here but it feels very therapeutic and actually helps with the grieving process. My wife and I had to put down our 7 year old pug/Boston terrier mix. We got her seven years ago as a wedding gift to each other and it hurts knowing she's no longer here. In the last 2 months her health just took a turn for the worse. She never had problems but in November she was diagnosed with pancreatitis and yesterday she couldn't walk on her hind legs. Turns out she has an enlarged heart, fluid in the lungs, and a clot stopping all blood flow to her hind legs. The doc said the fluid could become cancerous and the clot could become gangrenous to her muscles and tissue. My wife and I along with the dr decided it was best to put her down so she wouldn't be in pain any longer. I've never actually been apart of the process but I held her in my lap, hugging her along with my wife as she fell asleep and passed away from the needle. I'll always have the memories but it kills me know that my 2 1/2 year od son is going to ask where she is when he gets home from his grandparents house. These were taken today before we left the house to the vet. The family isn't the same without you and I miss you terribly, I'm heartbroken. Rest easy Maui, I love you. My son saying his goodbyes Me and my girl

Sorry to hear man. Its a terrible feeling to lose a pet, but its very caring of you to make the choice so shes not in constant pain. Every time we have talked and dealt, it appears to me that you are a great person. My thoughts are wth you man.

God dammit, man.
I just got out of the shower, hitting an open mic tonight, now I'm crying.
I lost my first dog in 2007. That's actually my first tattoo, his paw print. I know how it feels. Losing my dog turned me into a shut-in for a few weeks. I vanished. Losing my dog hurt me more than losing human family members, it was brutal.
I've been there. Hit me with a PM if you need to vent, man, I got you.
Be strong for you wife and the little guy.

To you, and anyone that can be there when a loved pet, needs to be put to sleep, I give you guys all the credit in the world. Our last dog had to be put to sleep in August, and it was done at the house, I wanted to be as far away as possible. I don't think I could handle being there. When you have to make that hard decision it just hammers home, how much of a member of the family they really are.

Heartbreaking news. Looks like it had a happy life however!
My dog is turning 8 soon and I know he's only got a few years left, it will kill me seeing him go.

That seriously has to be one of the worst feelings a man could endure. I had to put both my cats to sleep, but I was such a young age I hardly remember. Now that I have two dogs, one growing older, this could very well become a possibility. Your story made me tear up a bit. Hang in there, dude. I'm sure she had an amazing life.

Sorry to hear that.
My parents dog passed away 4 weeks ago tomorrow. It was my mom's first dog, since she's getting older and she always wanted a dog despite having allergies, she decided to get him. He was only 7 1/2 and battled a form of cancer for a few years. In the end he couldn't stand on his own any longer, so they knew it was time. After the birth of my daughter, we lived there for a few years, so I found it hard when he died. I actually started crying last night thinking about him.

Losing my dog Benny was one of the most heartrending events of my entire life. Just like you, it was a much worse grieving process than losing any of my human family members. It's going to be a rough couple of weeks, but as cliche as it is to say, time truly does heal. May the void that Maui left behind be healed as quickly as possible.

I have a pug that's getting older too so I feel for you. They're so adorable but prone to so many illnesses and health issues, it sucks.
