Hi- This is my first real post here, and since I'm very new to collecting (about 55 figs, no customs), I was curious about a couple things: These Vince McMahon/HHH mail away figures I'm seeing on eBay and referenced on this board and others...what was the deal with those? Did they require proofs of purchase, just payment, what? Also, did they do well enough to warrant future railways, because I'm afraid that may be the only way to get some of the guys I'd really like for my collection, ie. paul heyman, jim ross, rosa mendes....
I guess my second question is, do you think mattel has future plans to release any additional "suited" or non wrestlers via mail away?

It was collecting a certain number of figure receipts (four?) from Toys R Us and mailing them in with a $5 payment for shipping.
As far as we know, they will continue to do a mailaway promotion every year, if the Triple H one did well. But we don't know who or what it will be.

It seems like they do a mail away every year and a couple build a figures and I would imagine that won't change. I hope they decide to do some older managers soon. Like Heenan, Fuji, Slickster, Frenchy, and Hart

Those BAF's are a scam amongst scams. It's almost admirable how brilliantly sleazy it is. Having said that, I will scour the continental USA looking for all the pieces for Big Johnny...

Yeah, scam is a bad word probably. I don't mean it's dishonest. It's genius, really. I'm not sure what I was trying to say.

What's funny is that these BAF or mail aways cost roughly $85 ballpark. (TRU elites are 21.99? plus the freight). So buying one off ebay or from someone on here for $50 is a pretty good deal considering.

The figures you buy to get them cost $85 ballpark. $85 for six figures... 4 elites, 1 BAF, 1 mailaway = $85 for six figures, cheaper than a standard elite series. Or even if it's just 4 elites plus a mailaway, that's five figures for $85 which is about the same as standard elite prices. $50 is not a good deal for one.

Umm correct? The figures you buy to get the free one cost that. So Ultimately, thats what HHH or Michael Cole or whomever else they do cost. So that would be why a John Laurinitis fig would pull in that kinda $....for the guy who doesn't wanna buy another Cena or Sheamus to get the parts. So.........not false

I DO like the fact that the parts are interchangeable, so if you only want to build a big Johnny, you can use the Michael Cole legs or whatnot...

I don't get the Hatred for BAF's yeah their prices are more than elites.. But look at it this way. BAF $20 x 4 = $80 + Tax that's less than $100 for 5 elite figures... Regular Elites $16 x 5 = $80 + Tax it's the SAME!

Well Cole legs are black, while Johnny's are red, which would look awkward. A better example would be Ricardo and Cole since all there parts are the exact same except the torso piece.

I think I am going to just bite the bullet and pay the ebay price for a Big Johnny when they become more available. In the past, I've bought the BAF figures that I really didn't have a use for and ended up selling them for circus peanuts. So, paying $60 for Big Johnny doesn't seem like that bad of a deal to me, instead of paying $90 for 4 figures I don't have any use for since I am a basic only collector.

I have not been able to find ANY of the BAF John Laurinaitis line besides Cena at a TRU Outlet store in another city a week ago for the first time. It's especially strange to me because my local TRU has always been on top of the BAF lines- I built Michael Cole & Ricardo Rodriguez both in one TRU visit each. I have been checking back constantly for the John Laurinaitis BAF line to find nothing. I heard that Christian is one per case. What? Question... how doesn't that make ANY sense from a business standpoint to short-stock one figure in a four-figure-series that's entire intended purpose is to encourage you to buy all four and complete the set? Little silly, no?
I frankly prefer the BAF's over mail-aways. I certainly met all the criteria to recieve a COO Triple H figure, for example, but by the time I found out the figure existed, the offer had expired. This is very frustrating because I would have liked to have one and I purchased $400 worth of figures during the timeframe allotted & didn't even see a picture of this figure until a month after it was no longer available. There was NO promotion whatsoever locally and I didn't happen to be checking this forum at that time. I can't understand the logic behind that either. "Want to be rewarded with an exclusive figure that barely costs us anything to produce? Spend $50 in the next 30 days and prove it, and send us money to ship it. But you only have 30 days. After that it's over. Gone forever." It seems just as incompetent and senseless a BAF Figure being one-per-case...
I just hope whatever mail-away they come up with next has just a little more advertising. All I'm asking for is an appropriate notice that this offer exists and a more reasonable timeframe to buy. I want the figure, for goodness sake. I want to PAY YOU money, Mattel- is this too much to ask for in return?

I can dig you guys logic on the prices of the BAFs but to me $50 (or more) for one figure is ridiculous.

The Triple H promotion started in June (although we weren't told about it until July), and it lasted until November. So this promotion went on for 4-5 months. It's not like it was a quick 30 day promotion and that was the end of it.

I took BIG advantage of a sale TRU had where you B2G1 free so I did that with the Cole BAF series (qualifying me for a COO HHH in the process) and I also got the 20 0 Taker which was free at the time. So now I'm at around 40 bucks spent and have 4 figures and 1 BAF missing a part and one Mailaway. So I grabbed the last BAF making my total come to 60 bucks plus tax, for 7 Elite figures.
A scam?? I don't think so.

Yeah TRU offers alot of deals throughout the year so its possible to get the BAF figures for a decent price through their buy 2 get one deals and such and plus people also used the barcodes for Triple H as well. I heard of several people getting 3 BAF figures and that 20-0 taker for around 40 dollars total. Its doubtful you will see any of the build a figures in the regular lines so they might be more collectible down the road. And for the person that missed the Triple H dealio, this isnt Vince here, you can get one for a fairly decent price on the bay.
